Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The blue relay has been used in just about every PSA car that I can think of that has intermittent wipers. They certinaly have a limited life, as I have changed a number of them now. The easiest car to get one out of in a scrappie is a mk1 405, as they are in the fusebox, which is easy-access inside the car.

Isnt this something to do with the head gasket, my mates Fessa got the same, like mayo, and he had to have a new gasket, he drived so slowly he managed to keep it creamy for months without knowing.

it doesnt matter if if throttle cable looks too long or routed different,as long as it doesnt foul any moving parts and doesnt have any kinks in it.

i think its on the back of the diff housing above the drain plug.
normally 21mm or 13/16 inch spanner size, youll have to remove the under tray.

Hi,
Just done mine last weekend when the engine was out, with advice from a family mechanic The crank pully bold shouldnt need replacing, as long as it's torqued up well and depending on your fancy with a drop or two of threadlock.
The only thing I came up against was old paper WP gasket masking its self as the surface of the block. I would expect...

The Swedish Citroën forum ( has negotiated a deal with a stainless steel exhaust manufacturer and has got a price of 3700SEK = £290 per vehicle for a complete system. The vehicles coverd by this agreement are:

Hi jon,
Yes it is a very interfering fit!
You will be hard pushed to drift it out, and heat will set fire to the rubber. What i did was to remove the mount from the engine, put in a vice, take a hacksaw blade, thread it through the mount (with as much rubber cut out as possible) and then connect it to the hacksaw. Cut about a mm or two nice and...

Well, GSF and GKN list them as being different, e.g. a GTi/16v and TD are the same, whereas 16/19/17D and 19D are different. As the gearbox types are basically the same (BE1/BE3) and the hubs are the same, I can't quite see why. The only difference is of course if the car has ABS. I will look into this and report back.

Could you have some form of heat siezing going on? After adjusting the shoes how's the hand brake travel any better?

I have to keep adjusting the rear brakes whenever the handbrake travel starts to get abit long (all most full travel).
When I remove the drums to adjust the adjusters manually, everything looks to be intact with the spring and flippers etc, I finally adjust the shoes through one of the wheelbolt holes for fine adjustment.

Honestly Robinson -
It's not worth the efforts really. You will never get a reliable connection that will last longer than a couple of weeks. The sensors I've seen have the cable attached with a moulding. Any connector system would shortly fail by the roadsalt.

Yes it would be dangerous to leave them off. Extremely dangerous.
When you've got no load in the rear of the car, the brake compensator reduces rear brake force accordingly. Without them your brake bias would be very rearward and that would mean that the rear brakes would be prone to locking up long before the fronts are doing much braking. It...

On the back of the ZX volcane with discs, there are those compensator things that (i think) limit flow to the back brakes under heavier braking to prevent lockup.
Has anyone ever removed these when replacing a brake line? Have they been known to fail in the closed position? Would it be dangerous to leave them off?

I don't know about the C5 model, but just about every other PSA car has it's outside air temperature sensor in the bottom of the passenger side door mirror. Have a look, and if there's a button about 8mm across, in the bottom of the mirror housing, then that is it. If it's the same sensor as other PSA models, it's £18 for a new one, and a battle...

I have a 2002 C5 SX HDI. After having the car for 6 weeks and 3000 miles with no problems, the outside temperature reading is not functioning correctly - It is reading =C.
Does anyone know where the sensor is so that I can check connections/clean it e.t.c.

My Xantia STOP lisght went out in about 10 seconds. After changing LHM and cleaning the filters it goes out in just 3 secs!
With 30 secs, I would suggest Hydraflush - there may be some blocked links.

Front anti-sink valve is under the LHM tank somewhere, and prone to leaking on later cars AFAIK. Should be a case of depressurise system, removing the pipes, unbolting any mountings and replacing it. You will probably need to clean the whole are, put in some new LHM and start the engine to try and see where it is coming out.

The usual hydraulic thingys:
Sit on each corner and see if it sinks some 4 inches or so. If it's hard the spheres are shot. It should also rise to it's normal height with your weight during the test.
Listen to the click from the PR. Less tahn 20s, needs a new acc sphere.
I think it's about all, at least some o f the important bits...

If you only want another Citroen, and a ZX sized one at that, then its got to be another ZX but you would struggle to spend £2000 on one!!
If you are not so bothered about having a Citroen badge, then there's a huge amount of choice, from virtually every big manufacturer, for that money.
Ford, Rover, Vauxhall, fiat, renault, the list goes on and...

My Wife's ZX has been written off. Insurance company offered £1350 which for a 1.9D with 176,000mls and not in perfect nick isn't bad.
Bonus for me is that I was waitng for warmer weather to change a driveshaft.
So we've got about 2K to spend on a replacement.
Must be newer.

Actually it was a Renault motor-the V6 that also found its way into Volvo's.

I've got a spare EGR valve from a 1.9TD synergie, but that's probably different.

hi iv got a 2001 picasso 2.0hdi. it was feeling a bit sluggish so i had a diagnostic done and it came back as the EGR exhaust valve.
has anyone ever fitted one of these?
and how long would the job take and any idea of approx cost?

on my activa I think it is fuse 17 that is for the alarm check in you handbook find the one marked alarm and pull. My alarm has days of setting days of not setting and some days where it wont set but still b***** well goes off every 20 mins. A nasty sweet sticky smell? that'll be coolant weeping from the heater matrix. Which is a pain, as you have to remove the entire car to change them.
If its a nasty rotting smell, then I would guess there's something dead in your heater. Bird perhaps? Good luck on this one. I woudn't want to go looking for it!

my Xantia really stinks when I put the heater on hot. Its fine when it blows cold air and the air con works ok but as soon as you put it on anything other than 18degs it stinks!

Im surprised by how much difference a fuel filter change can have on the responsiveness and accelerating difference of the car, so ok its no vanquish but its noticable and the acceleration through the gear changes is much smarter.

Give it time and it will happen.
Funny suspension with electronics should make them depreciate faster than any that have gone before, the diesel engines are good but you'd never call the thing pretty and they have been heavilly discounted.

No maintenance is necessary except regular engine oil changes using a suitable oil. The can (very seldom) suffer from a leaking internal seal which allows oil to leak past the bearing seals and give generally a smoky exhaust.

I wonder if anyone can help me on this one. I have a Talbot express van, which is near identical to a Citroen C25. It uses a U25 2.5 litre diesel engine.
I'm assuming that this is the same engine as was fitted to the Citroen CX diesel models, and if so, if it was the same gearbox, as the auxiliary drive is somewhat intertwined with the gearbox....

have you checked the brake light switch at the pedal ? unplug the connector from it & bridge over the two terminals with a peice of wire with the ignition switched on,if the bulbs light then its the switch thats faulty (or poorly adjusted/fitted)

Its always good to hear of a cheap and easy fix !! p.s... did you manage to source a flip-cover mounting fascia for the player (like the one for the ZX?) I've been looking for a while, and can only find the basic type.

Hi All,
Whilst putting in a CD player in car today, I wondered if I could reach behind and push out clock. I did so quite easily. I twisted out bulb holder, put in new bulb , and Hey Presto, light. Whole job would have been about 20 mins.

I have a 1993 1.9TD ZX, on which the PAS pump has failed (pulley & shaft rattling around the bottom of the engine compartment...)
I got myself an identical looking pump from a breakers, but the pulley diameter is different. Mine is 115mm, replacement is 135mm.
Swapping the pulleys sounds easy, but I've failed so far.
Has anyone done this...

After all the helpful advice I've recieved on here in the past, I thought I'd let you know my AX is for sale if anyone would like it.
It's a 1993 'K' 1.0i Debut in Sapphire Blue, with 121,400 miles on the clock. Sounds like a lot, but it's pretty much average and it runs fine, no nasty noises or anything.
It comes with a folder full of reciepts...

Are you sure its the pipe thats gone, not just the seal? may be worth checking the nut is tight first then taking the joint down and replacing the seal. (Union nut should only be nipped up not tightened like a conventional flared brake pipe.)
Don't know if the pipe is available from GSF - genuine Citroen won't be expensive (none of the others are...

Hi all,
Just changed the hydraulic pump on my car (96 VSX Estate TD) and noticed that there was a bit of LHM coming out from where the small high pressure pipe goes into the pump. The one i'm on about is nearest the pulley. This pipe then rus down to the acculumator.
does any one know whether GSF stock them and if so what are they called? Failing...

Have fitted GSF pollen filters in both my Xsra VTR and the wifes Renault megane soft top and not had any trouble. If I'm wright the reno filter was the exactly the same as the gsf one down to the fitting arrows and part numbers. Mind the one for my Xsara is a little thin but still OK.

When I bought my current Xantia a year ago, I replaced the pollen filter with a Puravent filter, which has a carbon filter and is claimed to have special filtering properties.
A week ago, I decided that it was time to change the filter again, and I fitted a standard filter from GSF.
I immediately noticed that I could smell fumes from smokey...

when you say the self adjuster is missing!. i presume you mean the tiny metal flap that sits under the adjusting nut?
if so this is quite common,alot of garages tend to bin them during routine maintanance,too fiddley to refit if knocked off.
only problem is they wont adjust the shoes as they are designed to do.
the adjusters are available as a kit...

when the light comes on it doesnt always mean there is a fault.i would definately recommend a diagnostic check at any independant garage(citroen dealers will be pricey).i i were doing it i would check the ECU for stored codes,then erase them from its memory and then get the customer to try it for a few days and see how it goes.

Like the song said, it ain't necessarily so. Up to '99 the 60 deg V6 was 194bhp. The power increase was due to the introduction of variable valve timing. Sorry I can't help you with info about the engine mounts.

Does anybody know if the engine mounts on the 90 degree V6 are the same as the 60 degree V6. I have a V6 24v Citroen XM (1991 original 200bhp version - 90 degree V6), and suspect it to have a leaky Head Gasket, I have been offered a 60 degree V6 24v out of a 406. Sounds as though its the sensor lead rather than the sensor itself. The question is which one as clearly these things work when static but some conditions cause the break. In reality its going to be going over a bump - and you may be able to work out which one while driving.

The ABS light came on today on my way home.Switched the engine off,restarted,no light.Drove off for a mile or so & came on again. .Searching the past topics it would seem to be a wheel sensor.Will have to have a look after Easter when i service it.

Sounds like the first stages of clutch slip due to wear to me.
It's the traditional way to check. 3rd gear on a slight incline, accelerate hard. If the revs rise out of synch with the speed then the clutch is on it's way out. It will be a while before it shows up from a standing start.

I had the NS front motor go on my BX - (no plip) When I locked it from the drivers door with the key it would immediately unlock. If I locked the NS door with the button I could lock the car.
There are 2 types of motors used - one has internal switches (doors with keys,) others don't (back doors.)
