Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Im my opinion yep fraid so. Bent rear quarter, boot floor, light cluster, bumper and probably hatch too, at least, just from the picture.
Someone who was an un-insured immigrant with no driving licence did this to me in a CX I'd only owned 15 minutes a few years ago. the damage was similar. It was a write off.

There are a couple of different types - most seem to be the Clarion type, there will be a 13 pin connection on the rear for the CD changer - do a search on the forum because its cropped up more than once.

The internal seals in the struts are not designed to make a perfect seal, a little LHM is meant to get past and lubricate things then return to the reservoir via the rubber pipe system, the suckung up method works very well (I did mine yesterday)as for the leak on the strut I suggest you replace the clip holding the return rubber with a large hose...

According to you guys, we can lubricate the struts through their pipes, right?
Where do they get their oil from? why do they leak if there is no oil in them to start with?
I have one side which those pipes leak from their connection to the strut, but the struts are hard anyways - i need to lube them.

Sounds familiar, I did the strut lube thing, failed to replace a brake flexi due to wrong part supplied (new ones ordered thanks GSF) raised the rear ride height a little and am now sadly involved in IKEA kitchen

I got very greasy fitting a new strut return pipe. Also got very stressed trying to fasten the clip that holds it, so used the shaped plate that goes round the back and used a trusty cable tie! Also tried Tom Sheppards method to grease the struts using the return pipes - it works!!

I think I used double sided tape when I did my BX door. I used a breathable membrane similar to the original if a little thicker.

Having replaced the blue relay for the wiper I now need to seal the membrane.
I used EVO-Stick black silicone, sticks well to the plastic tailgate but will not stick to the plastic membrane.
So what's the answer?

I *think* the difference between a 90 and a 110 is an intercooler. The 90 definitly doesn't have one, but I believe the 110 does.
As for the problems, it does sound like an ecu is getting very confused somewhere. Possibly due to low voltages from a duff battery? Might be worth seeing if you can borrow a known good one from someone and see if this...

I'm looking for a front o/s hub for my zx 1.9D and I have seen a Pug 206 hub for sale on Ebay. Are all 206 hubs interchangable with ZX cars? The advert says Peugeot 206 O/S (Drivers side) front hub assembly. fits models XSi,GTi and 2.0L HDI.

The bolt for the tensioner has a socket (allen key) cap head which is specially shouldered, the socket cap head protrudes through the hole in the bracket but the shoulder does not, thus the bracket is driven by the shoulder.
What you have got there is a bodged affair, there aren't any nuts on the correct part.
Look at the belt sizes in the online...

Hi fellow avocados
Yesterday decided to replace cam belt on ZX TD - no great problem there - easier than the one I did on my BX16TRS.
The alternator belt was looking the worse for wear, though, so I nipped out to local motor factor for a new one.
The replacement was a Bosch 7972 6PK 1125. I assume 1125 is the length.
The new belt would not go on!...

Hi All.
Have just bought a 1995 Xantia 1.9SX TD, with 111000 miles on it.
All appears well, apart from one nagging thing. Once I have covered about 3 miles, the orange warning light on the temperature guage lights up. The temp guage stays at about 80 degrees and doesn't appear to go any higher, but the light won't go off until the car cools...

I wasn't convinced either, until I tried it last week. It made a hell of a differance! As you say no more creaks and more supple. Only problem I have now is it's made me realise how shot the front spheres are......

Today I lubed the front struts on the BX using the method via the leak off pipes, I used about 50ml of LHM each side, when I removed the pipes some milky looking LHM dribbled out so I thought that it might not make much difference..I WAS WRONG the slight squeaking/creaking has gone and the rise is far more supple, it prompted me to raise the ride...

The pressure regulator may have a crack in it. Its more likely something to do with the pipe though and it may be most straight forward to replace the pipe.

Rostami,
I think what you are talking about is the hydraulic ram on the activa that stops the car from rolling from side to side.
When the computer feels the car leaning to one side, it uses the ram to jack the car up, so you the car doesn't lean any more.
This is only on the activa models.
I think some other members on here will be able to help...

If its like the bosch one on my TD undo the 2 bolts holding it on to the car, take the pipes off (take the pipes off the stubs - the banjo's won't undo) and turn it upside down on the bench.

Evening all. Does anyone have the secret solution to removing the purflux design diesel filter housing on a 1989 BX 19RD?? You've got the primer button on the top, and what feel like 3 plastic lumps on the bottom. Two feel like caps, other like a bleed screw, but access is tight!

Is there sufficient oil in the box? if the level is low the first things to run dry are the selector rods which AFAIK are at the top, that might cause your symptoms.

I drove my wife's 1.9td '97 for the first time in ages this week, gearchange is almost 2 handed , a quick check showed 2 of the connecting rods to be very stiff, took them off removed rust and road c**p greased them put it all back together, better but still V stiff. Took rods off again and checked gearchange by operating the rod that comes out...

My ax has got problems, its started puffing blue smoke out of the exhaust under acceleration, gets worse under load, but seems to be running ok and starts up fine, its only done 61k miles aswell

Nothing extraordinary, I think its a 13mm holding the sensor to the caliper, use plenty of coppergrease when you fit the new ones, they corrode into the hole.

Well with the lighter nights and warmer weather coming up, I thought I'd take a look at my f/n/s ABS sensor (which I suspect is the culprit after the ABS started playing up again last week).
Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew the tool requirements for a sensor change so I'm not caught short when...

13.7 lb ft isn't very tight - have you got a torque wrench going this low? In fact I'd say it was just a smart pull on a normal length spanner of that size - not a long one. Be careful using sockets - bars meant for 20 mm nuts on these will do some damage!
You can get at all these bolts quite easily can't you - so do them up to what you feel...

My apologies for what has to be a pretty boring question...
I've just replaced the sump gasket on the BX GTi and I'm not sure about the figures Haynes give for the sump bolts.
My manual is the one with the GTi and TRS described in a supplement, it states 13.7 lbf ft - this seems pretty high for M7x1 bolts which (with 2 exceptions) all go straight...

the MAP sensor should be bolted near the O/S/F strut inner wing area.
some early 1.4i,s suffered with faulty throttle bodies,a new one used to be about £350!

I have a ZX 1.4I (KDX Engine) and am having some troubles in the engine dept. . Although the problem is tempermental it lets you know its there with the way it drives.
On starting from hot and cold the car is fine. Idle is fine although it has once or twice idled with the revs going up and down (from the actuator on the throttle body) but...

does your car have a rear brake compensator valve?
if so the brakes are weight sensitive,when you dont have anyone in the rear they hardly work, but work great when you have weight/people in the back.
if you go to your local MOT TESTING station,and ask for a FULL brake test it will confirm if the brakes are working correctly.

Well, in reply to my own post, it was the clutch asjustment.
It took well over 7mm of adjustment on the cable to get the gears to go in at idle.
Quick and easy job, first time I've ever done it, and it makes me wonder whether a previous xantia actually needed an expensive clutch job

Just got home, the clutch started making funny noises as if it were dragging - I had my foot all the way down.
It would change gear if strongly encouraged , and along the top road near home the clutch didn't feel as if there were any movement, and I had to change gear clutchless.

To change the instruement lights you need 6to remove the whole of the binnacle front - knobs can stay in place. haynes instructions are quite good. You have to go through the fuse area under the dash to remove the speedo cable and take the bonnet release off. You may also need to remove the steering wheel - be careful if you have an airbag - it...

I tried to remove the dash clocks early yesterday morning. I managed to get the hazard lights and all the other buttons off, I got the steering wheel surround off but when I got to the clocks I paniced. How easy is it to take the clocks off. I need to change the bulbs and know where they are etc but I need to find out what type of connections...

I think changing the operating temp may muck up the fuel injection - why do it? If its overheating lowering the thermostat temp won't help.
I'm almost certain you have an alloy radiator anyway. Steel or copper haven't been fitted for years now (like 20 years)
If you suspect a dropping off of cooling perforance you may be able to help by flushing....

Going to fit an alloy rad to my MK1 VTS soon, and was recommended to change the thermostat too.
Apparently on a saxo the thermostat opens at about 90degs - are there ones that open at a lower temperature? Someone said that Gti6 one opens at 83 and might be the same fitment as the Saxo?

I struck one on a BX the other day that was interesting. The bolt on the end of the power steering ram was hitting the lower control arm where the bush fits when the car was turned right and a bump hit.
Might be worthy of a look.

Does the Xantia have an octopus as such?? I had a feeling they didn't, just a bundle of separate pipes going to the reservoir.

I am just a little confused.
I have just carried out a test on a spare thermostat, lowering it into a kettle of water, bringing the water to the boil while observing the action.
Just before the water boiled, the main valve fully opened, but the sprung loaded circular plate on the other end did not move at all.
Does anyone know if this plate is...

It's the resistor on the motor, they cost about £40 from a dealers. Mine went on my HDI, it was sorted under warrenty so unfortunatly I don't know how to replace it.

Mudflaps were always an accessory fitment, the moulded ones you mention are called 'Contour'.
You are correct about the headlight adjusters in that they are unnecessary with self-leveling suspension.
As far as I'm aware, no boot spoilers are available specifically for the estate model.

Well car acutally, another Xant. 2.0 16v Exclusive Estate, fully kitted out with leather, electric everything, traffic master, wood(plastic), cruise control, factory CD Changer, etc etc the list just goes on & on. Its got hi milage at just over 120K but she's fully stamped up & they look to be motorway miles. There are a few odd things tho.......

When I did the head on the BX, I bent the front plate slightly to clear the camshaft. It gave me enough room to get the head off.

Am towards the latter end of removing the head, first time have done one. I have looked at BOL and it states to remove the front plate bolts, where the injection pump mounting bracket is. Is this completely necessary or a typical BOL overkill? It was getting dark so I stopped for the eve as I couldn't really see the relevant nuts and bolts.

I think its related to the anti sink or the height corrector. Had one which did the same once. But it was after being parked for a while, the front end would look very high. You'd get in, start it and it would drop and break wind at the same time! Never did anything else wrong though, so I lived with it!

When I stopped after a journey of about 12 miles I switched of the engine and as I walked away the car made a noise from the front like a horse farting.
I have done the stand on a corner test for suspension and that seems ok

Its quite straight forward, biggest problem I had was getting the bottom hose off. It is a funny push fit which gets corroded in and there is just no room to get at it and apply the necessary force. Same issue trying to get it back in even after a very careful clean up of the metal coupling on the hose.

The tank on the radiator is the expansion tank, and yes you will need a header tank to refil it (or a steep drive!).

Just a quickie: the cooling system on my ZX has no expansion tank - water is filled directly into the radiator.
So how should I bleed it after changing coolant?? Will I need to use a header tank on the radiator as I would if it had an expansion tank?
(The radiator cap is on the offside and the coolant level can been seen in a clear plastic tank...
