Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Only things I can think of are... Check that the Head Gasket hasn't gone, the cam belts been replaced, and that the wheels at the rear dont sit / \. Other things to check are that all the central locking (including the boot) work, and that the electric and manual windows go up and down.

Just when I thought been running ok lately the bugger upped and died on me. I went to start the car and nothing happened. No dash lights, no clicks from any solenoids and the immobiliser pad didn't react to the key turn. I am thinking that it's the main feed to the ignition circuit, but thats guesswork. With my (limited) experience of these xud engines, I would recheck the fuel filter gasket -as the slightest air leak will cause poor starting ( there will be no sign of a fuel leak, as the pump is sucking the fuel from the tank. (try using some clear pipe from the filter to the pump... any air bubbles will then be obvious) good luck!!

As mentioned some weeks ago my son was changing his head gasket on his 306td. This has been done with a re-skimmed head etc.
As he brought this car cheaply with the gasket blown, it appears to be hard to start and cannot find any reason why. Also it appears to have a bluey white smoke when cold, which I think is signs of pump timing being...

I do NOT agree that a leaking injector could cause hard starting and/or engine stall right after start.
You have a different problem - most likely air in the fuel system.
As it is a 2000 reg Relay - it would be a HDI ??

yes the stereo will have 2 +12v wires a yellow and a red one if memory serves, one will be a constant and the other will be ignition. what about going from the battery?

I have fitted an aftermarket radio and amp to my Citroen C5 SX 2.2 HDI.
I have a couple of problems:-
1. I am having trouble finding a place in the fuse box in the glove compartment
to run a 12V wire from. There is a row of fuses at the top of the fuse box which
would be ideal but it has no power. Does anyone know why it is unpowered...

This little beauty blew on my Volcane at the weekend. Brittle with age I guess. Its the double pipe that connects at bulkhead to heater matrix with a big square connection, and then goes down the back of the engine and underneath. The other end goes round the top of the engine to the n/s.
Anyway, I got the damn thing off after hours of fiddling...

I cannot for the life of me find my fuel priming bulb, I don't seem to have one.

I opened the fuel filter bit and looked at the filter and it looked pretty clean, so I do not change it.

Hi Stansbury.

If you remove the retaining clip that stops the throttle cable outer casing moving forward, (i.e. left) then pull the cable casing to your right, (standing at the front facing the radiator) you will probably be able to replace the clip in a new slot nearer to its 'stop' point, (further left than its original position) that should...

Easy now -
If the rear can be set up or down manually - then the HC is in fact working - as this is the device that either supplies or releases the suspension pressure. Bet it's the famous plastic ball link that has snapped off.
Most of the labour time would be lifting/jacking the rear then.

Thats for a length of pipe, you just cut it into the lengths that you need between injectors.

I went into my local GSF branch and they told me that they didn't stock leak off tube despite it being listed on the website!
Ended up getting it from Halfords in the end, £4.25(?) for a length of tubing, metal clips and a couple of end plugs. Think it was a metre.

is it very light wispy smoke that is blown away almost instantly? if so, this is simply wet on the inside of the exhaust which is being heated up by the hot exhaust gas, and evaporating. Once it gets out of the end of the exhaust pipe, it condenses in the air, and looks like clouds coming out of the exhaust pipe. It only lasts 5 minutes as by...

Have a Citroen ZX 1.4 which gives out white/grey smoke for the first five minutes after starting from cold. The smoke then clears.
Any ideas/things to look for?

If its a rectangular one, large flat thing its GSF N12250.
Your car will only be hydractive if it is a VSX model, if its an LX or SX etc then its non-hydractive.

Ok, so a non hydractive car, so 2 front spheres N45332, 1 accumulator N45304, 2 rear spheres N45366. If you have a sphere near the middle at the back, thats an antisink sphere N45372.
I'll go measure the N12250 in my BX tomorrow, it is about 12 in length though from memory.

Thats an oldish pump then Jon, it is an Idle speed device and if you look you should see that it works directly on the accelerator lever on top of the pump.
Can you swop the housing to keep it as it is, probably wont make a lot of difference when cold running if you lose it though.

I couldn't see that there would be a problem in changing pump and injectors to the Bosch system, which I much prefer, but the Bosch pump I have has a device on the front of it (which I guess is some sort of cold running...

Luckily for the bx I have no money to buy it for a spare engine for the Visa :)
It will probably go to an enthusiast though as I think the 205/309 people are still ignorant of the fact that its the same as in the 405 mi16. The bx donor I bought before was in a right state but the engine was fine so im ok with that and its interior went to a friend...

Every ZX I see has that problem! I left my parcel shelf down when I used to have a ZX as I remember!

Is there any way of fixing the parcel shelf so the cords fully retract? Or a clever way of getting them out of the way??
I'm sure that this is a common problem for us ZX drivers, because when i see others the cords are either dangling out of the boot or the shelf has been taken out.
I know that this isn't really a huge problem but its a real pain...

My guess would be that you're getting air into the fuel system. Before starting, squeeze the hand primer several times.

hi iam going insane trying too find a prob with my relay 2.5 diesel ,i have aleaky injector which im going too replace ,but the problem is that after vehicle has been left fro 4 or 5 hours it is very hard too keep running from start up , ie turns over and when you drive off as soon as you get 3 or 400 yards it dies as tho its strugglin for fuel .i...

I'm pleased to hear you got back OK, Jon (I've been incommunicado since Thursday, moving house and settling in). The grey BX is definitely a nice example, and shows signs of being well looked-after(apart from that damned engine rattle, though I think the thin-oil sticker on the turbo inlet might be a bit of a giveaway).

The 155bhp version had a small Turbo, that provide constant torgue for a wide range of rpm's.
Your version in aspirated . It has only 20bhp less, but a noticable lack of torgue at low rpm's, compared to the turbo version.

Hi All,
When they brought out the original Xantia 16v, 2 litre, it was rated at 155Bhp. My 97 model has the downrated 135 bhp engine. Anyone know what they did to downrate them and why?. Is it a chip thing. I don`t want to go faster, just have a bit more wellie when caravan (shoebox) is dangling from back of car.

What make and type of bike rack is it. I've used a bike rack on mine since it was new. Mine's the type that slots into a fitting attached to a tow bar.

JBL or vibe. any of there medium range speekers should do it may be that your blowing speekers because your driving the amp too hard not because the speekers cant take it. the amp starts clipping when pushed beond its limits and this can cause real problems with speekers. my sujestion would be to get a small 2 chanal amp and a good set of 6X9's...

Anyone know of any cheapish really good quality speakers that can take a beating from someone who plays there music loud and always seems capable of popping all 6x9's at some point including Wilkobobs (sorry), if i win the lottery i may even replace the front door ones to but mainly the 6x9s for the moment.

Just check the pressure relief pressure.
I recently bought an oil filter for my Xantia and found it was slightly different to the BX although it was recommended either one will work.
Prooblem is that if it's too high it will cause the engine to starve of oil if it were to get a blockage, before it bypassed the filter and if it's too low, it...

Q1. Although I used the correct filter I still have 4 x BX ones which LOOK exactly the same as the Xantia one (diff numbers though). Can I use teh BX ones?

To drain the hydraulic reservoir, remove it then tip out the old fluid. Remove the filters and clean those with petrol. Refit the reservoir and fillup with hydraflush. Leave it in for 1K miles.

For some reason the search facility isn't working for me, so could someone point me at, or explain to me, the best way to drain the hydraulics and use Hydraflush on my Xantia Activa?

First get the car up on ramps or over a pit and check that the long rod that goes from the height control lever beside the gear lever to the height corrector valves front and back is moving properly. Mine hardly ever moves (this is on 3 activas) the 2l auto didnt eather and the v6 hardly does.

I fitted a meter cluster from the VSX model. It has the oil temp gauge. My oil temp goes to max of 70 degree C only. even on a hot day about 36 degree C, it never touches 80 degree C.
Any idea what is the normal reading for oil temp? Currently sensor is at the front , facing the radiator.

Any places in UK where i can buy these parts? I am familiar with HP aircooled engines, but not Citroen engines. Things just lingering in my mind to make my car faster with relibility in mind. Stock exhaust too....i need the quietness when driving.

Driving home this evening, I noticed that the generator warning light is glowing very dimly. I noticed a few weeks ago that it was flickering now and again - now it seems to be dimly on all the time, although its bightness varies.
Is there a new alternator somewhere in my future?

Sounds like an example of the usual manufacturers small print which reads something like 'Our policy is one of continuous improvement!
Seriously how much of the BX did Citroen actually make? Certainly in UK there are at least a couple of specialist steering rack manufacturers and for example many Land Rovers have been made with a Salisbury rear...

I stock a few steering racks with good trackrod and inner joint ball links.
For some reason the pre '87 (?) inner balljoints are different...

Must be good - as that seal never leaks if its put in properly!
I remember many years discussing some similar product that came in a plastic bottle or tube for manual gearboxes with a couple of mechanics and the consensus was that putting the plastic tube in as well would probably help silence a noisy box.
Work for some - I've used engine...

I was just looking at the Forte website and noticed this;

Automatic Transmission Treatment is the recommended treatment for hydraulic systems using LHM fluid such as used by Citroen, particularly for conditioning the rubber seal between the hydraulic fluid pipe and gas globe.

I've never heard of that one before, has anyone on here tried it?

It sounds like you have a dodgy electrical connection, possibly on a battery post or one of the earth straps. The alarm going of is a symptom rather than the cause I would suggest.
Remove the battery leads and make sure they are clean, you can get a reaction between the post and clamp which then causes a hard crust to form between the two.

I recall that someone treated their Xantia thus on this group, and the car ran for 15K+ at least, and may still be running with it.
My local Citroen indie uses it as a semi-permanent repair, to good effect.
Another former Citroen indie is now a distributor for Forte, and says that the stuff stays active in the system (but he did not say...

I've been running the Xantia since January with Forte Stopleak in the cooling system. Previously it was losing a litre a day of coolant, now I top it up every fortnight by not very much at all. The leak was coming from the heater matrix. The car runs great, the heating still works fine. Done about 7k with it like this. I just wonder, how long...

Both my calipers are siezed solid and I'm wondering if I'll need to take off the flexi hose to undo the mounting bolts.
The top mounting bolt is obscured by the hose, so there's no chance of getting a 9mm allen key bit in there without removing it.
Am I missing something obvious? Seems like a duff design.
