Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Best practice is to change it at 40K. With your mileage it might be advisable to change the water pump and tensioner.

I know exactly how you feel, I ended up breaking the plastic housing trying to get it off.
The best way I found, (after struggling to get it back on properly) although it may be too late for you is to try and release it whilst the engine is warm.
You don't have to remove the metal clip, but just to get it to move to one side in order to pull the...

It is a wire circlip, I would prefer it to be there, I have seen a Rover strip a spline because the shaft rode out of the joint until there was not enough spline for the load .

I plan to change left driveshaft, gaiters and lip seal this weekend (BX 1.6). I have a complete one as a spare part.
The driveshaft is missing a circlip in the groove, i.e. the rod itself can be removed from the outer CV easily.
The picture in Haynes BOL shows one, and the circlip is present in original Cit drawing (part number 96995619) as well....

The very last BX's were all diesel estates, I've seen some L reg ones and one M reg, which was registered having sat unsold for some time. Never seen an N Reg. They officially stopped importing them into the UK in 1994.

When were the last BX's registered in the UK cause I've seen two with unusually recent plates......when I worked for Ikea Cardiff a member of staff had an 'M' reg estate and also locally someone (briefly) had a TZD on an 'N' plate!!!!!!!

Sounds like the Volcane is the better car to me.....Im going to change my Reflex to a Volcane in the summer.

I need to decide whether to keep my ZX Avantage 1996,N reg.5 door,mileage 93K which I paid £7,000 for 8 years ago, or opt for a 1993 L reg. ZX Volcane 3 door model, mileage 89K.
The trouble is I've always fancied the higher spec.n Volcane and I recently had the chance to purchase this one off one careful owner, so I did just that!

Hello Jon. Try a Pug gaiter they are made of something like rubber that stretches very well over the stud for the ram instead of the plastic type of thing that citroen use.

You need to drill out the rivet then get a 'fitting kit' from Citroen for about £1.50 which includes a new rivet and spring clip.

Got a quick query about the Xantia Key and plip, (black infrared one, key folds into the plip). I've got a 1993 model, I'm hoping to replace the plip with a new one and change the key over, any idea how to take the key out of the old one and fit it in a new (most likely bought off Ebay as everywhere else overcharges..) plip.. doesn't appear to be...

I got the rear spheres re-gassed lately but apparently there still is an imbalance between them. It was suggested that there might be dirt stuck in the reed valves. Is there an easy way to clean the dirt from these?

My wife's car does that, it sounds like the central locking on he rear N/S, it's never caused a problem so havn't persued it, probably a high resistance earth connection somwhere

Looking at putting a light on the dash which would illuminate when the cooling fans come on. (having probs with temp, water level – tho constant for last 3 weeks - HG failure ? dble check with chem. test this weekend)
Then thought may as well install a switch also so I can manually override and turn them on if feel necessary.

are they road legal? i didnt think any were yet?
Unfortunatly the only option at the moment is HID's for the xantia and its not cheep i have some one who will sell me all 4 hids needed for the xantia at £500! The visual diference is very good and makes driving at night far easyer.

Gravitated into Halfrauds at the weekend in that `don’t need anything… I wonder what’s new in the auto eye-candy line’ and picked up some side bulb LEDs. At £9.99 for 2, they weren’t cheap, but thought `it’s pay day soon, what the hell!’’
They’re made up of four bright LEDs per `bulb’. I put them in front side lights and WOW... Intense brilliant...

Hi Peter,
the car must have had working brake lights otherwise it wouldn't get a roadworthy. Your probably the 3rd owner ?? That means it would have failed 3 RWC's.
Your not confusing the rear fog lights are you. Press the button on the dash the operators the rear fog lights and see if there the globes in question.

Only things I can think of are... Check that the Head Gasket hasn't gone, the cam belts been replaced, and that the wheels at the rear dont sit / \. Other things to check are that all the central locking (including the boot) work, and that the electric and manual windows go up and down.

Just when I thought been running ok lately the bugger upped and died on me. I went to start the car and nothing happened. No dash lights, no clicks from any solenoids and the immobiliser pad didn't react to the key turn. I am thinking that it's the main feed to the ignition circuit, but thats guesswork. With my (limited) experience of these xud engines, I would recheck the fuel filter gasket -as the slightest air leak will cause poor starting ( there will be no sign of a fuel leak, as the pump is sucking the fuel from the tank. (try using some clear pipe from the filter to the pump... any air bubbles will then be obvious) good luck!!

As mentioned some weeks ago my son was changing his head gasket on his 306td. This has been done with a re-skimmed head etc.
As he brought this car cheaply with the gasket blown, it appears to be hard to start and cannot find any reason why. Also it appears to have a bluey white smoke when cold, which I think is signs of pump timing being...

I had the same problem on a previous BX, I just hacksawed them off. Make sure you get new Niloc nuts with your new links.

Anyone know how difficult it is to change the front drop links on my xantia now i know there,s one nut at the top and one at the bottom now ive heard it can be a right pain to change them becouse when you undo the nut the whole relivent joint can start turning and then you have problems is this true and do you get round that problem or am...

I do NOT agree that a leaking injector could cause hard starting and/or engine stall right after start.
You have a different problem - most likely air in the fuel system.
As it is a 2000 reg Relay - it would be a HDI ??

This little beauty blew on my Volcane at the weekend. Brittle with age I guess. Its the double pipe that connects at bulkhead to heater matrix with a big square connection, and then goes down the back of the engine and underneath. The other end goes round the top of the engine to the n/s.
Anyway, I got the damn thing off after hours of fiddling...

Hi all,
just done a service on my 99 Xantia 1.9 TD.
I cannot for the life of me find my fuel priming bulb, I don't seem to have one.
Are the late Xantia TD's self priming?
I opened the fuel filter bit and looked at the filter and it looked pretty clean, so I do not change it.
Car started straight away.

Hi Stansbury.

If you remove the retaining clip that stops the throttle cable outer casing moving forward, (i.e. left) then pull the cable casing to your right, (standing at the front facing the radiator) you will probably be able to replace the clip in a new slot nearer to its 'stop' point, (further left than its original position) that should...

Strange question I think I know the answer but it would be nice for an outside opinion. As some of you know I own a 1.9D ZX Aura which has only done 136K not much for a 1993 and still runs fine. One think I have noticed is there is a lot of slack in the accelerator. Tired a flat straight run the other day and it took me 27 seconds to get to 70MPH...

Easy now -
If the rear can be set up or down manually - then the HC is in fact working - as this is the device that either supplies or releases the suspension pressure. Bet it's the famous plastic ball link that has snapped off.
Most of the labour time would be lifting/jacking the rear then.

My rear height corrector is dead-kaput-knackered!
The rear suspension of my emergency Xantia collapsed on the way to work today and I could see the rod/ball joint from the cable had broken.
It will not be set by hand to the medium height-its either fully up, or totally down. I've had it set to maximum, to get me around.

Thats for a length of pipe, you just cut it into the lengths that you need between injectors.

I went into my local GSF branch and they told me that they didn't stock leak off tube despite it being listed on the website!
Ended up getting it from Halfords in the end, £4.25(?) for a length of tubing, metal clips and a couple of end plugs. Think it was a metre.

is it very light wispy smoke that is blown away almost instantly? if so, this is simply wet on the inside of the exhaust which is being heated up by the hot exhaust gas, and evaporating. Once it gets out of the end of the exhaust pipe, it condenses in the air, and looks like clouds coming out of the exhaust pipe. It only lasts 5 minutes as by...

Have a Citroen ZX 1.4 which gives out white/grey smoke for the first five minutes after starting from cold. The smoke then clears.
Any ideas/things to look for?
(No sign of water in the oil/oil in the water and all levels remain constant so pretty sure it's not a problem with the head gasket.)

If its a rectangular one, large flat thing its GSF N12250.
Your car will only be hydractive if it is a VSX model, if its an LX or SX etc then its non-hydractive.

Ok, so a non hydractive car, so 2 front spheres N45332, 1 accumulator N45304, 2 rear spheres N45366. If you have a sphere near the middle at the back, thats an antisink sphere N45372.
I'll go measure the N12250 in my BX tomorrow, it is about 12 in length though from memory.

Thats an oldish pump then Jon, it is an Idle speed device and if you look you should see that it works directly on the accelerator lever on top of the pump.
Can you swop the housing to keep it as it is, probably wont make a lot of difference when cold running if you lose it though.

I couldn't see that there would be a problem in changing pump and injectors to the Bosch system, which I much prefer, but the Bosch pump I have has a device on the front of it (which I guess is some sort of cold running...

rg which part of the tensioner do you mean? my 2.5 is tensioned by a very strong spring.i am presuming that you mean the auxillary belt.

The gear lever has suddenly (and without warning) become very heavy. My wife described it as hunting for gears through treacle!

Luckily for the bx I have no money to buy it for a spare engine for the Visa :)
It will probably go to an enthusiast though as I think the 205/309 people are still ignorant of the fact that its the same as in the 405 mi16. The bx donor I bought before was in a right state but the engine was fine so im ok with that and its interior went to a friend...

Every ZX I see has that problem! I left my parcel shelf down when I used to have a ZX as I remember!

Is there any way of fixing the parcel shelf so the cords fully retract? Or a clever way of getting them out of the way??
I'm sure that this is a common problem for us ZX drivers, because when i see others the cords are either dangling out of the boot or the shelf has been taken out.
I know that this isn't really a huge problem but its a real pain...

My guess would be that you're getting air into the fuel system. Before starting, squeeze the hand primer several times.
