Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have a Xantia 1993 TD SX and the steering wheel has started de-composing, all the part that your finger grip has started breaking away from the wheel. This is a none airbag wheel. Has anyone got any ideas where I could get a replacement one from (not too many pennies though).

Deosn't matter which plug the feed is connected to, as long as they are all connected together

Sounds like glowplugs especially if loads of grey/white smoke comes out of the exhaust.
One way of looking at it is that the car is a victim of its own success - it starts so well that when its mildly warm the glowplugs aren't needed - but when the temperature drops a little they are not there.

Not quite sure whats happening from your description but as you say it happens when stationary I suppose its got to be pedal and the connecting spring between the pedal and the brake valve.
Otherwise could it be the sound of bubbles in the LHM rushing through the valve? In which case you may be able to eliminate it by 'Citroebics' - raising and...

Anyone want to take a shot at this? M reg Xantia LX owned it for 2 days. When I brake as the car slows to a final stop I get a rubbing feeling from the brakes, but even when the car is stationary and I depress the brake I can feel this rubbing. Hi Alex, small world isn't it!
firstly NEVER increase the boost on it's own, its a sure fire way to make it go pop! You need to adjust the fueling as well, and ideally adjust the fueling first!
Before you can get some real help you need to find out if you have a Bosch or Lucas pump as there procedures for both are VERY different, you'll also need...

We had a Xantia owner from Scotland who described symptoms much like your Xantia does it.
The solution was a cleaning and lubrication (just a thin layer standard bearing grease) of the shiny rod on the steering ram (the servo cylinder itself).
As the rod is exposed to road environment it may be rather dirty - even light rusty on it's surface.

I know it's a bit late now but you can get the dash to bits without taking the steering wheel off. Lower the steering column to its lowest position and you can get a long torx screwdriver in to undo the side screws, you have to bend the facia a bit to get it out but it will come, relatively unscathed. Saves a lot of time. (sorry Mr Haynes)

Yep - they had the BX rear suspension system and the height could be adjusted manually. Never drove a MI16.
Was not a performance suspension - but simply to maintain the correct rideheight for best stability to match the 16V engine.
BTW : Audi, Mercedes, RR & Bentley also have hydro suspension a la Citroen system
- for best drive comfort.

I have just done a long journey in my Xantia 1.9TD and all was well temp guage stayed at 80 car drove like a dream 620 miles on 60 ltrs diesel. When I checked the water on my return the header tank was almost empty??? I have not noticed any leaks and the oil looks good. I have refilled and all seems fine.

How I sympathize with you. Recently I did the journey from Southern Spain to London over a 48 hour period. How my back and rear end did suffer. I'm sad to say, the Xantia seats are the worst I've ever sat on. Give me BXTZD seats any day.

Firstly check the routing of the cable under the bonnet, see if the thing is being trapped or is running in any tight curves that can be avoided, the gas strut can be safely removed to see if its at fault, AFAIK it was originally fitted to slow throttle closing and make the engine braking more gentle.

I bought a xantia yesterday, but I had to change the battery when I bought it. I have the radio code, but I dont know how to enter it. I just typed in the code and its just sitting there on the LCD three big numers and 1 little number. I have tried disconnectimg the battery over night but the code is still on the radio. Any ideas?

yes they are related,im sure the A/C control unit uses info from the exterior temp sensor in the mirror,replace that first,they aint all that expensive.

The automatic fan in my Xsara seems to lack grunt. If I switch it to auto, (say 18 degress) after the car has been sitting in the sun (baking inside), the fan just trickles cool air out. It should blast cool air out until the inside temp reaches 18 degrees, then slow down to maintain the temperature.

I have a 2001 Berlingo 1.6 MPV which is loosing coolant from the bottom of the radiator on the offside where the rubber pipe connects (then goes to the rear of the engine). I think I will have to replace the pipe and was wondering if anybody has done one before and has any help?

You can get at number four plug. Do a site search first as there's loads of tips 'n' threads. I found that by soaking the plug with plus gas or other unsiezing spray and then getting a cheap set of spanners (think it's 10mm) and bending them to the right direction (left) you can crack the plug just enough to get it out with you fingers. How about the hydraulics ticking ?
Ticking like mad when pumping up - or just occasionally ?
When up - does th ticking calm down to something like a tick every 30 seconds or so ?
You have checked the level of the green hydraulic LHM fluid in the reservoir ? - should be max 2 inch down (use your finger as a gauge) when car in low.

At 63K it shouldn't be necessary to change tensioner and waterpump, it it would be as well to examine both and make sure the pulley is running freely without grinding noise.

Shouldn't be any problem - the car's left hand drive isn't it? Try dealing with it on a UK TD with all the steering and turbo there!
In fact the rod going into the centre of the flat disc top has probably stuck due to rust on the shaft and I would first have a go at freeing it up with WD 40 and some carefully applied force from the top. I would...

I have a strange problem that is driving me mad.....
It started last week when the battery warning light came on - I assumed a faulty alternetor (8yrs and 90k) so took it to my local man who fitted a new control pack and brushes (Bosch alt.)

we used to have a 2.1 xm,now the wife has a 1.9td xantia.the 2.1 is a better engine if it is looked after and the extra power is like the difference between chalk and cheese.the 2.1 was also more economical.

I'm guessing from this that you've checked that it can't be the Long driveshaft intermediate bearing? It makes a right racket when it fails.
If you are in need of a BE3 gearbox, I have one for sale. It came from a 405 TD, but as far as I know the ratios are identical. yours for £40. It's in north dorset, and I can deliver if needs be.

Since replacing both front wheel bearings, I still have this noise of a bearing failing and its getting worse.
Presently after running in gear with one wheel off the ground and then the other, it rules out the wheels and points to the gearbox.

On my old 306 there was a key unit under the bonnet near the battery, Same for ZX?
On my ZX there's an alarm switch-off buttom just below and to the right of the steering wheel in a switch cluster.

got my zx on the road and the alarm is doing my head in, it just decides to go off after 20-30 mins.
I cant be bothered to fix it, so id rather jus switch the damn thing off so i can still use the remote fob.
i cant find a key switch anywhere.... any ideas how i can disable the alarm.

Does you Relay have a separate fuel lift pump? - I don't think it does in which case the lift pump is incorporated in the main injection pump. This pump is not very powerful and the hand primer will have a higher output.
So if the pump is unable to draw enough fuel but the primer is then there is probably a fault which reduces the input of the...

Best practice is to change it at 40K. With your mileage it might be advisable to change the water pump and tensioner.

I know exactly how you feel, I ended up breaking the plastic housing trying to get it off.
The best way I found, (after struggling to get it back on properly) although it may be too late for you is to try and release it whilst the engine is warm.
You don't have to remove the metal clip, but just to get it to move to one side in order to pull the...

It is a wire circlip, I would prefer it to be there, I have seen a Rover strip a spline because the shaft rode out of the joint until there was not enough spline for the load .

I plan to change left driveshaft, gaiters and lip seal this weekend (BX 1.6). I have a complete one as a spare part.
The driveshaft is missing a circlip in the groove, i.e. the rod itself can be removed from the outer CV easily.
The picture in Haynes BOL shows one, and the circlip is present in original Cit drawing (part number 96995619) as well....

The very last BX's were all diesel estates, I've seen some L reg ones and one M reg, which was registered having sat unsold for some time. Never seen an N Reg. They officially stopped importing them into the UK in 1994.

When were the last BX's registered in the UK cause I've seen two with unusually recent plates......when I worked for Ikea Cardiff a member of staff had an 'M' reg estate and also locally someone (briefly) had a TZD on an 'N' plate!!!!!!!

I need to decide whether to keep my ZX Avantage 1996,N reg.5 door,mileage 93K which I paid £7,000 for 8 years ago, or opt for a 1993 L reg. ZX Volcane 3 door model, mileage 89K.

Hello Jon. Try a Pug gaiter they are made of something like rubber that stretches very well over the stud for the ram instead of the plastic type of thing that citroen use.

You need to drill out the rivet then get a 'fitting kit' from Citroen for about £1.50 which includes a new rivet and spring clip.

Got a quick query about the Xantia Key and plip, (black infrared one, key folds into the plip). I've got a 1993 model, I'm hoping to replace the plip with a new one and change the key over, any idea how to take the key out of the old one and fit it in a new (most likely bought off Ebay as everywhere else overcharges..) plip.. doesn't appear to be...
