Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Who knows?
For a Xantia HDI 110 which hasn't been chipped, if it meets the mfrs specs it'll be OK. For a chipped car its a bit of an unknown, are you shortening your service intervals and increasing your oil quality etc?

This could happen if you have a bad earth cable to the engine block.
You should have a heavy gauge black cable running from battery to the gearbox somewhere. Remove this cable and clean contact areas both ends. At the same time check out the general condition of the cable.

I've got a Citroen ZX 16v and lastnight when I turned the car over some smoke came out behind the dashboard? (behind the speedo/rev counters etc) the car was then dide and wouldnt even turn over.

If you seem to get lost in the tables for model/year/tyre size - then you can always use the rule of half-n-half :
Have engine idle handbrakes on.
Now set the suspension height to HIghest height.
Make a marking on the wing using a scale
Now set the height to absolutely lowest.
Make a new marking in vertical...

I know that a popular brake upgrade for the ZX is brakes from a berlingo. I've tried to get hold of a set but can't seem to. I'vw been offered a set of calipers of a 306 XSI 16v. I know the disk size the take is 266mm. Would these fit with the right carriers?

I have had this problem before. It was down to the door pin in the door. The plastic pin that you press down to lock the door from the inside.
If that has been used often the metal pin that is fixed to the central locking actuator bends, this causes resistance in the mechanism when you to open/close the door using the central locking.

I just changed my pollen filter after about 25k miles. It's amazing now, I feel a breeze in my face with the fan on auto, where as before I used to have the fan going flat out to produce less breeze and rather more noise.

I changed my pollen filter in the Xantia, today. What a mess. I had removed it a while ago, and dug loads of crud out of it.
I had to refit it because it was too late in the day to get one, then forgot about it.
I am actually getting air into the car now, both hot and cold. This filter will now be a twice yearly change for me now.

Its not too difficult, basically undo the clamp on the roll bar and the height adjusting rods then move the height corrector arm to get the car to the correct height and retighten.
Obviously make sure the car is correctly supported on ramps.
After getting the car onto the ramps it should take no more than 15 minutes.

My 2.1 Xantia runs on 205/55x15's and I've thought for a while that the ride height was a shade lower than it should be. I measured the rear end this morning and it's 413mm from the ground. Haynes says it's a dealer job, but is it? Anybody tried adjustment?

Does the airbag not come off with the wheel? Ive had this key problem before and it was due to the bottom end of the barrel where all the switching goes on being slightly out of alignment with the lock mechanism-its easy to fix if you can get to it. Not dripping hydraulic fluid from just behind the gaiter by any chance? Started happening to mine shortly after they re-built the back end for the tyre wear problem. Coincidence or not?

Turned partially? Then it is not siezed. Try reversing it with the motor in a forward gear and the plugs out. If it moves at all, stop there and verify the cam belt.
THis sounds like valves being out of phase to me.

Just purchased a ZX 16v as a non runner, I've put a new battery in it and tried to start it but it's not having it. It just clicks..it did try to rotate a few times but mostly it just clicks.

The MKI headlights have adjusters that can be adjusted with a long 7mm allen key, the later MKIs can also be adjusted with a philips screwdrivers. On the MKI the front crossmember has two holes in it above and towards the back of the headlights, sticking your allen key / screwdriver in these adjusts, one does up/down the other left right.

Well I haven't got one on my BX and nor have Xantia, XM, XM, GS or DS will have one. That leaves the steel sprung ones and our ZX 1.9D hasn't got one but I think my long deceased Renault 21 did have one.

I'm a little puzzled by your description of the spring. The plastic clip connects between a clamp on the anti-roll bar then onto what is basically a metal bracket. Yes there are springs in the bracket but the clip does not attach directly to them.
The bracket costs £100 new so a breakers looks like your best option if its broken.

The insurance groups skyrocketed at some point around the time of the facelift.
My '97 is substantially more expensive to insure than the '95 for some not unrelated reason.

Fit a towbar?
Check that your water and oil levels are correct. Check your hydraulic fluid levels maybe the gearbox oil level too. A folding caravan isn't a big heavy thing to tow so beyond normal maintenance there isn't a lot to be done. The car will get hotter when towing so you want to make sure that your cooling system is working optimally.

It will rattle and drive you mad but should not become dangerous, you do need to tighten it, I suggest removing the roadwheel and obtaining a long iron bar/scaffold tube and an accomplice, place the end of the iron bar in a suitable place to lever the ARB link towards the rear of the car HARD and tighten the nut quickly.

I would guess it should be considered dead if the cost of repair is greater than the value of the car

I've seen Citroens being pronounced death based on the bad condition of the hydraulic suspension, which repairing was too expensive. If engine still works it goes for another car.
If engine is too tired and there's not a cheap one available (even if suspension still works), the car is also usually retired...

I think that the GSF ones are the ones upto 7477. The GSf description requires updating.

GSF lists one type only perportedly for all XM. The XM microfisch says new bearing type from org 7477 (spring '97). My XM 2.5TD is from march 98 and has org 7777. Will the GSF bearing fit? and if it does, will the hub fit the bearing (the hub was also changed at the same org for a stonger construction)?

Not in the UK. To achieve more than £1000 (€1600) a CX would have to be in fabulous condition. I am hoping to buy one in the next few days for not a lot more than a couple of tanks of fuel for it!

Doesn't sound good but by the same token, I still think you could be lucky enough for it to be a build up of condensation in the matrix area due to lack of use and prevailing weather conditions.
I would probably give you a 50/50 chance of this as you say there's no water under the carpet, so I'd suggest you drive it a bit more, don't get too far...

My Xantia has been parked for the last month, and just thought I would take it for a spin this morning.
Started OK, drove a little, wanted some heat, turned on the heat....woosh, big cloud of....steam i guess....indside the car!
Could this be the heater matrix, or is it just a hose that has come off?

Now, everytime i pull the windscreen handle for the squirters, the wiper blades give the usual 3 passes, but it's the rear squirter that works! The rear is functioning correctly when told to, though

I keep hearing about these BX boxes with no fill hole and I keep looking at them and finding them.
It is the plug on the right hand side of the gearbox where it slightly protrudes from the rest of the gearbox and if you can find it and remove it and then refill from there, you'll find it will take somewhere near 2 litres.

Hi, I have (possibly) BE1 gearbox in my 88 1.6 BX. It is not equipped with draining, checking and filling openings. The only way to change the gearbox oil is to drain the oil completely via opening on the differential, then it can only be filled with the gearbox oil through reverse switch opening.
My research brought up three values of the volume...

Its more than likely due to the white plastic link clip that connects the height corrector to the anti-roll bar becoming detatched.
Do a search on this forum and you'll find a wealth of information on the subject.

It sounds to me as though the rear height corrector isn't working properly and needs its linkage greasing and freeing. Worth having a look at the nylon link.
Leave the car - fluid leaks back to the reservoir - car drops. To achieve this to order means using the height corrector to release the pressure.

Hi guys, doing my usual checks today I decided to put it on minimum height, something I must say I never bother doing, just to see if it went down okay. The front went down nicely but the rear stayed put, I waited for a couple of minutes and no change. I checked it on the other settings and it rises and falls as it should, but the rear wont drop...

Hello. The Footwell in the rear passenger seat behind the driver keeps getting wet on my 2000 Xantia Estate. I'm pretty sure its not down to water getting in through the door or rear door. The Boot carpet is dry. Could it be something to do with the rear wash water hose? Is this easy to get to to check?

Dont know but the rough max mph in each gear thinking back to mine were something like 35, 58, 85, 110, 137 so bit high geared really but then you would be on 14 wheels not 15 I guess. You want a 6 speed box as thats geared to 137 as well for same wheels but more gears in between :)

Sounds like you've got the same problem as afflicts some of the ZXs.... wish I could suggest a solution or even a definite location of where the circuit has gone wrong --- but I'm still looking for that myself.

I have a 98 xsara 1.9TD. Recently the locking went a bit weird. at times it would lock fine with the plip and the lock, and other times the doors outomatically re-opened.
for the last few days when the doors re-opened the drivers door stayed locked and had to open with the key.
i had a look at the hinge area and saw a broken wire and a few that...

I'd clean out the LHM tank and filters before a flush, do the flush then clean the filters and tank again. I don't suppose it matters at what point you do the spheres, unless someone knows better

As the noise is independent on gears selected, engine pulling, or car coasting - then it's got to be final drive related.
It could very well be the differential unit itself.
