Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Has the brake cylinder been turned back into the correct position ? If not that might cause extreme wear of one of the break pads.

last year about 10,000 miles ago i had new pads and discs fitted by the dealer to the front of my hdi 110 xantia, the nearside had chewed into the metal.

Reprogramme it, it only takes a couple of seconds, point it at the sensor with ignition switched on and fire, job done.

I dug out my spare plip today,but it wont lock/unlock the car.Batterys are fine,the plip lights as normal when pressing the buttons,but wont work.It hasn`t been used in over a year,as i swap them about every year.It worked fine the last time.It wouldn`t need reprograming would it??

If you have access to a voltmeter, connect it across the battery and it should read about 14 volts with the engine running, if it does the alternator is probably OK. If it only reads 12v or a little over you have a problem. Check the belt tension first, if OK you probably need an alternator. Normally the alternator is secured by a long bolt that...

Interesting. Was the repair kit purchased from Citroen dealer or was it a secondary manufacturer?

Those wires wont effect anything, the elec window switches just unplug and stay in place, just make sure you undo the rear bolts on the front seats first.
You may have probs with the seat belt floor fixing on that model though? somthing to do with being able to pull off slowly when in a collision? There are none on mine so I didn't have that...

Happened to me.
It was simply a combination of wear and corrosion of the lock. It is possible to swop the passangers side to the drivers side or buy a new set of locks from gsf.

my xantia 19tds is suffering the above, the remote dont work, yes changed battery, its knackered and they are too expensive. So in order to lock the whole car i have to lock the passenger door with the key so all locks are deployed, there doesnt seem to be any blockage in the lock, any ideas?

if its definately whistling, it could be turbo pipes, any pipes from the air filter to the intercooler (not secured properly), another thing to look at is the tensioner pulley on the fan belt, I know on the ZX the bearings in them go and make a right noise, sounded like a whistle on my car, and the 306 has the same engine. Could cam belt rubbing...

I have a peugeot 306 xtdt (1997) which thus far has given very reliable service. However as i was driving home last night with the window open i could hear a sort of whistling noise as i accelerated from around 1500 rpm to 2000. This one is a 94M Avantage, immaculate inside and out, only 65k, lots of Citroen stamps in the service book. Has working ABS (no rear drums - hurrah!), all original keys present, even the remote locking works .

As long as no one steps on the brakes when you have the caliper off you should stay quite clean... (If not the car would brake 'by itself')
Don't know about the hose though, over here you can get it quite easily in an auto-shop

Since I got the new xant a couple of weeks ago, I have noticed the brakes aren't as hot as the old cars, changed pads, discs seem OK changed accum sphere.
When I brake the cars slows then seems to stop braking so hard and I need to press a bit harder giving very on/off jerky braking.

As you rightly say, they are a year old. Spheres start loosing pressure from day one. They SHOULD be guarranteed from when you buy them, but I wouldn't fancy arguing about it in two years time.

The easy way to get to the alternator on an Alfa is to take the sump off, you have easy access to it from underneath,
Sadly, this doesnt help you with your XM though i'm afraid

Strip the door to access the lock mechanism. Then service the lock.

Maybe i'm a little young but i seem to remember Peugeot doing a 405 MI16x4. I definatly know about the normal MI16 but can anybody recall the 4x4 version. That must have ripped the transfer box input shaft to bits in minutes!
I seem to remember being an impressionable 10 year old when somebody down my street had a 405GLx4. Must have been 1990ish?...

Although I can get in through the front passenger door (ie/ left) of my XM, the central locking seems to have stopped working. The remote stopped working some years ago (duff remotes I think so use the key instead!) but I don't seem to be able to activate opening with the key either. Even from inside the car, using the passenger door, I can't...

A mate of mine had a BX he bought with an auto gearbox.
It's a nice car with low klms but the transmission has died.
Out here, BXs are still worth money and repairs are commonly rorted. The cost to repair according to the experts can be as much as A$4,500 which makes it impractical.
He decided it was a better option to fit a second hand gearbox so...

The cable is the handbrake cable which connects to the lever on the brake caliper.
The wire is most likely the brake pad wear wearning lamp circuit.
- meaning you're facing a handnbrake cable replacement.

I got a tyre changed at the local tyre place today and noticed while the tyre was off that there is a cable cut that leads to a lever on my right hand front brakes as well as an electrical wire cut. The brakes are working and the hydraulic pipe is fine but what is this cable and wire for. It is a 97 1.9 td Xantia.

Well, it's been done.
It used to show a random value between full (yes, it IS full) halfway full and empty (Complete with bleeps and flashing display) .
It certainly has been showing consistently full for the past few days. So, fingers crossed, we are free of a fibbing gauge.

Blingo Multispace 2.0 HDI oil gauge is at best apocryphal and at worst wildly inaccurate.
According to my local dealer, there's a new bit of software just been released for the engine management computer that can be flashed in.
It's gonna be done tomorrow.

Forgot to mention,the upside is that after nearly 3 yrs since i changed the LHM & filters,allthe LHM that came out was still bright green.
The other thing,will i be able to run the car for 30 secs to get it on the ramps,without doing any damage to the pump?

People on here seem to mention the Bitron unit quite often. I have a similar problem with my Xsara hdi...The red Stop light comes on (with or without aircon - which works fine) & then the fan powers up at full speed. I have just posted a question about it, but don't know what the answer is yet. Do you have any ideas?

My xantia aircon is playing up, the radiator fans dont come on when the aircon's on and the dreaded red stop light flashes. After 5 mins the rad fans kick in full speed and the stop light goes out.
Think it could be the bitron unit, any ideas on this anyone.

The anti-sink sphere doesn't do anything noticable most of the time.
It provides a reservoir of pressure to the rear brakes so that braking doestn't make the back of the car sink as quickly as it would if it were not there. As for suspension and ride it makes no difference, all it does really is means that the car won't sink when the engine is...

Is the pump Luca (roto diesel) or Bosch? I know the lucas is an easy repair and cannot imagine the bosch one is much different, search this forum, someone had the same problem recently.

Oh dear, not good symptoms I'm afraid. At best an air lock from not bleeding the coolant properly, at worst head gasket and/or water pump issues.
It should be between 85-90, and never much over 90.

Hi dont know if this is any help (mine was a 2-1 diesel) but under the glove box I found a relay that was dead (bad connection)this stopped the clutch from pulling in.)It was just bundled in with the wiring harness.Sod of a job to find. Is the A/C pressure down?

Yes, your description sounds about right for flat rears, they tend to last longer than the fronts, perhaps the fronts are more recent?

The ride on my Xantia is getting quite hard now and it seems that it’s the rear spheres that have gone as the front still has lots of movement on the suspension where as the rear has virtually no travel.
Is it common for the rear spheres to go before the front? Is it ok just to change the rears or should I be doing the front ones at the same time?

Yes, you can lower the car on stands. Change the spheres then restart the engine, then you can get the car off the stands.

Twice I've done accumulator spheres from the top, both times I used a block hammer and an 18 chisel. Ideally I'd have got the chain wrench or the stilsons onto the sphere but access is near impossible top or bottom without taking the radiator out and the chisel just goes in.

All three can be mixed but only give the protection of the mineral. The SAE number does little to indicate which type of oil you are using. The only thing is that synthetics normally have a wider gap between the two numbers. Mixing a 10/40 with a 15/40 will give you a 12.5/40.
