Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

You'd need to transfer... wiring, wheel sensors, driveshafts, hubs, heatshields, the rear brakes, ABS ECU, ABS relay, ABS valve block etc.
This is probably the scale of conversion that ActivaV6 would love to tackle, but it would be a 8, 9 or 10 on my scale.

Your new pipes are delivered with plastic (or rubber) end caps ?
If not - take a smoker's pipe cleaner - cut in 4 pieces - then insert each piece half way into pipe and bend. That way you do not get dirt/grit into the pipes.
Dont mind the exact bends and shape at first. Start feeding the pipe from wheelarch inwards. Then connect at the 3way union....

The front brake pipes on the BX are now quite rusty and it's time they were replaced. I've got new ones (from Citroën) and the flexis, too.
I've managed to get one of the bleed nipples undone (it's years since they last turned) and I reckon the other will be alright, too.
But it looks like the rigid pipes will be real swines to fit - especially...

There are two types of pump - before anyone can help you'll need to see which you have. One is Bosch, the other is Lucas (sometimes marked Roto-Diesel). I have the feeling that Bosch is more common.

Have a grope around in the drivers footwell, left side alongside the pedals there you will eventually encounter the other end of the cable, and a lever, this operates the water valve,try moving it from this end these get sticky and are best operated regularly and always with the system warm if possible, I live in fear of problems in this area and...

Can not advise you on this model but ensure when re filling you have the heater in the hot position and ensure the rad is vented, and look out for the small screw top vents in the highest hoses normally going to the heater matrix.

I have encountered Hitachi starters on the diesels, as you describe the body of the motor is smaller and there appear to be some reduction gears in there, works fine though in my experience.

Old trick that worked for me was to hacksaw a diagonal line down the threaded part of the plug in about 3 places and very very carefully screw in plug a quarter of a turn and back, then in etc keep a vac handy to keep the swarf out the way.

Brat and blast. I was just checking the condition of the spark plugs on my Xantia Activa and number 3 got it's threads crossed. It goes in about 2 coils and no more.
Does anyone have any tips to sort this out or is it head off time?

Driving home, I just depressed the clutch,when it decided to return the compliment. There was a 'twang' noise and the pedal immediately stayed at its lowest position (ie didn't spring back). The genuine Citroen reconditioned spheres I've had in the past had a plug with a couple of flats and a screw thread cut into the top of it, under a yellow plastic cap but there was no valve in them.
You can get valves (Technosir do them I believe) that allow you to regass your spheres in situ, assuming you have access to a bottle of compressed gas...

When I came to replace the rear spheres on my Xantia last night, I noticed that the spheres appear to have a valve on them. there is a plastic cover under which lies a hexagonal screw which looks very much like a valve. Sounds very much like the ignition switch is failing. A new one will probably cost less than an ECU investigation anyway.
its worth having a look at the connections etc just to make sure there isn't a plug coming undone but it sounds like a switch fault to me - ie isn't moving properly.
Beware of lubricating it with WD 40 or similar - from what...

Not likely to much on here about the C4 - we're more interested in buying BXs and ZXs it seems! I have not heard anything bad about the C4 on other more general forums I frequent (contrast to the C5!). I expect there is a C4 group on Yahoo lists.
Personally I think it looks great, and look forward to it getting shunned by the public so I can buy...

Nisk,
The idle adjustment is made in the programming of the ecu. You can change it if you have access to an Elit or Lexia programming tool.
However, I suspect that the setpoint stored in the ecu has not changed. Therefore the ecu thinks
either
1. the engine is turning slower than it is
or
2. the setpoint is artificially raised for some reason...

I have found that the idle on my 2.5TD (which was already rather high at 1000 rpm) has increased even further when I run it on veggie oil (to 1200 rpm) now that represents a fair speed at the low gear ratios this car has.
There doesn't appear to be any mechanical adjustment at all on the pump and Haynes BOL is as usual, useless - doesn't even...

Hi,
Have any other C4 owners having problems with a rattle from the rear shelf on a 5 door model ?
It appears that the shelp is not held in place by the rubber mounts on the rear hatch and so enable it to bounch up and down on rough roads. It not helped by the fact that the shelf is of hard material againts the plastic trim.

Lots of sticky pads.
Use some fishing twine or nylon line to slip behind the plate and slice through the sticky fixers. Gentle warming with a hairdryer first works wonders too.
Then clean off the excess black sticky bits before putting a new plate on - and warm the fixers on your new plate before sticking to the car - they will adhere better.

The rear washer on Hatchback Xantia is not working, the wiper works and the water pump makes a noise, but no water at all.
Are there any tips for fixing this please?

Could be for the infoumous 'air con' unit that was fitted on some few ZX's.

Started to removed some bits off the engine ready for it's removal this weekend,

Front offside behind foglight, there is two connectors, one for the fog the other??

Front nearside behind foglight woz dat?

Front of the engine to the left of the oil pressure sender. Woz dat for? (notice the ammount of oil!!)

Whats the condition of the injector leakoff pipes - affects Bosch but not Roto-diesel!

My son who has a Pug 306 with 1.9td and has a Bosch fuel system. He Recently renewed the head gasket and the head reskimmed.
The pug is a pig to start, all the usual things have been checked unless I've missed something?? The problem is that he brought this cheap with the gasket gone, so has no idea of if this was a problem before.

When you test the air horns, Use a multimeter on amps (big amps that is, at least 10) and see what it draws. Check your handbook, and see what the fuse that covers the horn circuit is, and what else it protects. As a very rough rule of thumb if the current drawn is less than half of the rating of the fuse, you should be fine.

The horn on my xant is very very croaky,But I have a new set of air horns I have never used in the garage (about 6 years old) that still work when a 12v supply is put to them, Can I fit them straight on or is there any mods I will need to do to the wiring?
Is there a relay/fuse adequate for the horn already.

IMHO you need the brown BX one not the blue one its one you dont have listed, i have all 3 manuals if you want one i'm sure i can let you have one for £2 each for the BX ones if your interested.

If the car you are transplanting to is a 3 door they will fit. If its a 5 door they wont.
Be aware of any changes such as seatbelt pretensioers and side airbags (dont think the ZX ever got those). More info on which car you want to transplant too would be appreciated.

there is nothing wrong with the GSF belts (used about 10 now wiht no problems), i would out of choice replace the water pump and tensioners but that i believe is mostly because i am picky.

It's on 96,000 Miles (6000 Miles of which I have owned the car with trouble free motoring! - Trip to France coming up soon). This will be it's first belt change.

I would bleed the brakes with the Hydraflush and then again with fresh LHM. You have nothing to lose, it cleans up the system...and it is a guarantee of more effective braking.

If water has got inside the engine, you're probably up for a total rebuild particularly if it's suffered hydraulic lock.
I reckon the battery would be the least of the problems.

Well, at least I've got a 'spare' car if I need it at the moment...!
Started with the chattering flasher relay this morning. Wiggled the stalk a bit, and it went away . Came round the roundabout off the M9, bit of chattering, bit of wiggling, bit of smoke from switch . Only smoked the once, and only for a couple of seconds, but I guess replacement...

Sounds like youe front height corrector is sticky, more than likely the linkages and springs would bebefit from cleaning and lubricating, there are two linkages to the valve itself. one from the anti roll bar and one from the lever inside the car, from your description it sounds like they are fighting against one another, get the car up on ramps...

Yes there is.A small copper washer.Dont know the size.I just ask for 1 when i get my service bits.Cost 50p at the weekend.When you tighten up the bolt,it squashes the washer,making it seal.Hence the need for a new one.Although i`ve re-used them in the past with no leaks from the sump bolt.

I once had this very same problem on a ZX Td, narrowed it down after replacing head gasket etc. I can't recall the arrangement on the XM but what I did on the ZX was to remove the 2 water pipes and join them together with a bit of copper pipe until I found a good s/hand oil cooler.

You may recall I bought a 2.5TD with a small problem. The coolant system was full of oil. I cleaned it out, took the car for a run and the oil was back bad as ever. So off cam e the head, new gasket, rings, big ends, timing belt, injector nozzles etc etc. No difference.
Well, the good news is that I've traced the problem. Its the oil...

if you got a garage to do them, then well, why didnt you have the disks done at the same time, in the long run your gonna have to pointlessly pay double labour in my view (although my view isnt nessisarily the clearest :P)

As far a being a better drive than the ZX goes, not sure myself...think ZX's are more 'involving' and fun than the Xantia. I personaly, have found few cars that I've drive to handle as well as the ZX, although my parents Seat Leon comes close.

I now own 2 ZX turbo diesels and I have the opportunity to sell one for a Xantia 2.0 HDI, LX (110B.H.P.)with aircon., hatchback , sept.r 1999,T. reg. 80k miles, main dealer service his.y.
I was wondering if the xantia seats on this model were as comfortable as the ZX Volcane. Also is the Xantia a better drive than the ZX? I'm afraid of parting...

Visit your nearest scrapper. Suspect a couple of other Cit/Pug models use the same bits.
BTW : tried the same back in '81 with my Simca. Workshop should replace left front wing (insurance damage). They replaced the headlamp housing - but forgot the plastic clips to hold the headlamp unit. They used scotch to keep the unit in place - until one day...

Girlie's AX has somehow passed another MOT. The garage have managed to dislodge the drivers side headlamp though! Not totally their fault. It was held in with a jubilee clip (don't ask!) and some raw hope! (A bodge by a garage we won't be using again!)
The garage have said they will order in a new headlamp but I reckon the plastic lug has...

Yes its when the heater matrix has started to leak. Do a search on this forum and you will find just the odd posting or two on the subject.
Make sure you are comfortable before reading though!

Next question; I think the temperature sensor which gives a signal to the cooling fan to start up is busted - The red stop light comes on intermittently along with a little red light next to the temperature gauge (even though the gauge isn't anywhere...

cant imagine that they often go wrong, there a simple driven pump thats contantly being lubricated. also in a right bugger of a place if they do pack up!
