Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Headbolts are torqued until they stretch a wee bit.
- but they can only stretch once in their life.
Meaning there is a fair risc they snap if you re-use the old bolts.

i have not fixed one yet but in GB CCC mag few months ago there where pic of a xantia where top mount had failled whilst being driven completly mangled the bonnet,lookeda right mess, i dont think it is very hard job to replace regards malcolm

I'll be getting my zx done soon, and my brothers 306 too - maybe he'll give us a bit of a discount!
I have heard that generally - pulls better - especially when off turbo. It pulls for longer in the rev range. So - makes it more flexible - but have read that fifth is stronger - boost is adjusted as well as the adjusting the fueling.

Its more likely to be a H/R connection on one of the sensor connectors. If its like the XM you should find them about 18 up each lead from the sensor. If you can get to them fairly easily you could pull each on apart then see which pair go O/C to identify them.

If it really is NO compression, then I would suspect a valve to be jammed open. If the compression is just very low, then look at a head gasket. If it is only a bit low, then possibly worn out rings. When you next come to fill the tank, brim it again, noting the litres needed to fill and the mileage on the trip meter. This should be an easy one!!!
On Monday I tried to fold the rear seats of my 1993 Xantia (to take an old door down to the tip).
The handbook simply says Remove the headrests .
As much as I pulled it, pressed or twisted various parts of the mounting it wouldn't come out. Go up and down; yes. Pull out of the seat; no.

Having a C5, all i can say is good things. Very spacious, one can fit practically 2 washing machines in the trunk without leaning the seats, superb ride comfort superior to the Laguna, bigger room inside, and so on...
The only thing wrong i find in my C5 is for some airbag and immobilizer problems, but i think that happens when i turn on the...

Are your new link rods all adjusted correctly?
It doesn't matter what you get a gearbox off, as long as its the same BE3 gearbox that the 1.9TD comes with.
Some 1.9 TDs come with a different box, the people carriers and the vans may get that one instead of the BE3, no doubt somebody else will be able to tell you which comes with what.

My passenger side damper has gone to heaven, last weekend I found a very large potholein the freeway. It was dark and I was doing 90 km/h. Fortunetly, only the front wheel hit it but now the damper is dead, it's droping oil. And I replaced both in october!

The XM rear subframe is the same design as the CX.
Meaning the rear spheres themselves are pressed against the subframe.
It's NOT like the other models in the family where the CYLINDER itself is presed against the subframe on the rear.
This in turn means that on CX & XM (& SM) you can not use the method of setting the suspension to high to lock...

Oil the locks with plenty of oil, and work them backwards and forwards with the original key.
Sometimes when key cutters cut keys they don't get them perfect, after all locks are designed to be secure and need EXACTLY the right key, not just a close fit.

Brian I believe the origin to the problem could be worn bushes in the ram cylinder mounts.
If the ram itself is allowed to move from the rack then the piping from pinion valve to ram will split on the unions.
Try remove the piping (NOTE the connections !) and look for hair line cracking at ends.

If the ride hieght is correct it is almost certainly 0ne or more spheres that have failed or at least have low pressure. You should be able to bounce each corner of the car two or three inches, with the engine running, if you find one corner is hard, that's the sphere.
They are quite cheap at GSF cars but you will need a chain strap wrench to get...

Pottering about today, and decided to see if I could tackle the oil leak on my ZX TD. Turns out it was where the filer neck for the oil, jubilee clips onto the block, the filler was loose, tightened up and worked a treat. While I was down there, noticed green furry bits on the connectors on the solenoid on the started, so decided to clean them....

I may not be very correct here, but the accumulator, as with the other spheres, is good enough by hand tightening. I would advise (but wait for a more knowledgeabel opinion) to unscrew the acc sphere, put the rubber sealant on the mating surface of the acc block/FDV, then, and only then, thighten the sphere on it.

Now it is coming from the braided black hose that runs horizontally below the radiator - close to the middle of the radiator, a bit towards passenger side (I thought this black hose is meant to carry some wires ?). coolant is now dripping occassionally...

Get an electric drill and loop the belt between the pump and drill, pull hard on the drill to tension the belt then switch on etc. It did it for me.

With the head skimmed you generally use the thicker gasket (I just grab the thick one) If you want to really push the boat out go for the metal one its listed in the GSF catalogue as a Volcane TD gasket but dont be put off by that.

That 1423 ohms on ROS is indicating a near future problem.
Get an OK test from the ECU by connecting a 1K ohms resistor instead of the sensor - on the faulty ones.

95437354 is the accumulator fitted to Hydroactive and Activa Xantias. No idea how it is different.
96178589 is correct for 2.0i all years and all non-Hydroactive Xantias from 96 on. It is 55 bar compared to the 50 bar originally specified for your car, so should give a slightly softer ride.
N45332s are also 55 bar, so should be equivalent to the...

The crash sensor doesn't normally disable the starter, it only shuts the fuel off (well it does on a 96 XM) maybe the oil is low or the sensor faulty, that would possibly do it.

Hard suspension is a sign of flat spheres, inside the spheres is a metal tang which the diaphragm can, if run flat touch and puncture causing the sphere to fail, perhaps your heavy cargo caused the sphere/s to fail in this way, does your LHM have any bubbles in it? when a sphere failed on my car the LHM looked full of tiny bubbles, also a dead...

A XM mk2 rear suspension got suddently hard as a stone, after the car was used for carying a really heavy cargo. Front suspension remained soft.
Could the rear spheres be discharged in that single and shorp trip or there might be something else broken ?
The car is mk2 (8 spheres). Suspension rises as normal.

Ive had/own 4 activas
Wicked Red (98) (105k) - 30 secconds
Light red (95) (105k) - 20-30 secconds (this sometimes can take alot longer)
Silver (95) (60k) - 60 seconds average unless the car has just been run, whne its light goes off the rear of the car goes to the hightest possition then drops back to normal drive (this car is not in use suprise...

I started on the ZX enigne removal today. Twice it nearly found itself at the bottom of the dyke!
The first being unable to get the exhaust mounting bolt undone (under the engine) I had this problem when I first got it while trying to change the manifold/downpipe gaskit, I remember doing it back up by hand then quater turning it, to ease removal...
