Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Getting one to fit with a dashboard adapter should be straightforward.
Adapters are available for the steering controls.
Getting one which will display could be more tricky but you could probably live with the players own display.

My Xantia 1.9 TD keeps exactly the same temps as yours and fans have only ever come on when the system needed bleeding.

My 1.9TD with heater matrix that was leaking (now forte stopleaked ;) ) seems to have some funny ideas about temps. It usually sits at 70-75c when driving along at 30mph or sitting on the motorway at 70-80mph. This temp will rise 80c if it goes up a long hill or sits in traffic. not sure on a xsara but they are usuly between air intake and fan,with quality filters you normaly get fitting instructions regards malcolm

On my 1997 Xantia,there is a thumb wheel under the steering columb,on the lower cover.It controls all the dash lights & heater/panel lights,but NOT the stereo brightness.That stays the same brightness for some reason.
Not sure about changing the bulbs,never had to.

The clicking sound actually comes from the pump and regulator, but I know what you mean. Could be that the pump drive belt is slipping giving a reduction in output, that would give you intermittent heavy steering.

Cant says I have had any problems yet with mine (little black box added). However the clutch on the 110 is a different item to the 90 BHP car.
There was also a problem with early HDi clutch bearing failiure.
Vanny I think would be your best bet with regards changing the clutch type, Im not sure if it would be possible myself.
For now if I were you...

Try greasing the bootlid struts (grease dont cost annything, new struts do!). As long as you have emptied the diesel fuel filter of water I wouldent worry to much - my 1993 Xantia turbo diesel has the same problem of the water in filter light illuminating. They can, the items are exactly the same, so long as its a needle lift sensor it should be compatible with the Lucas Epic ecu too.

I'm fairly sure that the sensor injector on my 2.1 is faulty and intend to do a swap with a mate's 2.1 to check. I borrowed the special injector socket from CJ Diesels. The chap there also gave me a s/hand 1.9td sensor injector and said that it should be ok in my engine. If so, I was welcome to make an offer. GSF do not list injectors for the 2.1...

White smoke from an engine (wether pet or derv) is either water or evapourated engine oil.
If the engine was overfuelled the smoke would be black.
If the engine oil is soaked into the combustion the smoke would be blue.

My 19TD has started to give out white smoke. It seems to be only on over run i.e. when the revs are dying off. I noticed it first when the car was cold but it has just done it after a 10 mile run.

Cant believe this surface of the suspension ram is in direct contact with the LDS. As it is not in direct contact with LHM on BX/Xantia/XM with front struts.
Suppose any kind of lube would do the job.
The good old approach applying some grease would probably be the most longlasting lubing ...

Guys, i changed the spheres ontthe C5 for the petrol ones (again - i had the original due to a visit to the dealer), 'cos i noticed the left side a tad bit harder than the right.
I followed the same procedure as always with the C5, but when unscrewing the left one, the oil was all bubblish, what i found very odd indeed...

Press and hold the trip recorder button then turn the ignition to the normal running position (not start).

My car is in for a full service and cam belt etc today but not at a Citroen garage. Any ideas how to reset the service light spanner on the LCD display to 10k again? It's on a 99 Xantia TurboD by the way.

I have a spare here off a car I have just had crushed. You can have it for a token amount and post if that helps. Best of luck in repairing it though. Usually on these the fault is the electronics, more so with the speedo which again is electrically driven.

Your not the only one with issues on this on the wifes Activa will only let you use the sunroof if your lucky as it has jammed open a couple of times and with english weather its not worth the risk of using it!
Anyone with an understanding of these things imput would be much apresiated.

The moulded plastic fittings have release buttons. Just work out which side it is and press the side firmly and it should slip off the filter.

I am trying to replace my fuel filter on my xantia break. The problem is that there is no recognisible clips or any kind that secures the input/output hoses. The original hose ends looks like a moulded plastic end that defied my attempt to detach the hose. I dared not try too hard in case I break the hose. Is there a correct way to do it which I...

I reversed my Xantia today through a narrow gap between some safety fencing. Only going very slow but caught my LH (passenger side) mirror and it broke clean off. Hanging by the wire/cable.
Does anyone know of a good Citroen breaker in the midlands where I can get a cheap replacement mirror ?

The twin ouput hydraulic pump is only found on the Xantia. All Xantia's have the same pump, but some have different pulley sizes, the pulleys can be swapped around though.

On a 1.9TD, the cambelt covers are the most difficult bit of the job, the belt change itself is simple enough. You'll need a couple of bolts and a piece of rod to lock the shafts up.

Must be a seal there allright.
The pipe is a 6.3mm - get a pipe seal at your nearest GSF or Cit dealer for a couple of pennies.
Remember :
ALWAYS fit the LHM wetted seal on the pipe end - and THEN fit both in the pipe port.
There is a fair chance the old seal is still located - and penetrated (damaged) - in the regulator port. The seal is damaged...

I found it quicker and easier to break off the old plastic clip with a 1/2 chisel. Remove the dash clock assembly and you will see a hole in the inner bulkhead, to the rear of the pod housing where you can clearly see the top of the clutch lever. Yes my Xantia has a nut allergy too, I wish they would label veggy oil properly. Very irritating!!

You'll basically have a hydractive Xantia for no extra cost (well, at the rear). You will have to be careful as the car will be more prone to oversteering.

Personally if I was worried about the rust then I'd take the discs off and clean them off with some emery cloth and re-fit. They will probably polish up with use anyway and for MOT purposes you only need 50%G anyway (they should produce about 98% if they work properly!)

Yep, drilling is a bodge, it causes cracking. The proper way to do it is actually cast the discs with the holes in. This is the way the OE discs are done on high powered production cars such as the big Mercs, astons, ferrari etc etc

Does the banging vary with road speed, or with engine speed. Does it get faster if you rev the car in neutral?
If it's engine speed related, you have a smoking gun already - you've been on a fast run on the motorway run with very little oil in the engine...

you could always try one of those resistor things that you find people scamming on ebay, supposed to make the car run rich.
Remove the air filter and take the air in from as high as possible to prevent crap being sucked in to your engine also take as much of the interior out as you can.

It depends on your level of expertise. Dismantling is fairly straightforward until you try and get the remains of the bearings out of the arm, but if you have a welder there is an easy way. Run a line of weld around the inside of the bearing outer casing, which will be securley jammed in, when it cools the casing will shrink and you will be able...

Hi Andrew, I did my rears on the hdi (one was down to the backing and sounding lovely! The other was fine-are yours wearing uneven? I think its common) The pads I got from gsf did not have the little retaining pins, it was pads and pads alone. But that was the rears anyhow. So I have probably been of no use whatsoever! there is a linkage for the brakes on the bulkhead at the o/s,it probably needs adjusted to take the freeplay up in it,dont do it too much or the brakes will bind on.

I just purchased a nice metallic red Saxo 1.1 Desire (2000 W plate).
The brakes were poor when I got it so I took it to my local Citroen man. He changed the brake fluid, front disks and pads, and also both rear drum brake cylinders.
But, the brakes still feel spongy. Although maybe not fully bedded in yet. But I can't imagine they'll get much...

If this is an XU engine, which I believe it is, the answer is a pain in the backside as you have to remove the cambelt to get to it. If you're removing the belt, then it's worth changing it, as they are cheap, and the main pain is the labour. Sorry!

Thought it was time I put something back into this forum as it's been no end of help to me.
I started to get a rattle at low revs 1100-1700 from the aux drive belt on my Xantia. Investigation, ie., removing the belt, proved that it wasn't any bearings etc.
Got a new belt and fitted it but had a hell of a job trying to do it according to Haynes....

You should be able to find a dedicated wire complete with a plug that will fit in the rear plug arrangement in the near side rear light unit. You will then find that the car rear foglight doesn't work!

I think someone has got this all rather wrong. The Oil/coolant heat exchanger is absolutely essential on a TD engine. During engine warm up it uses coolant heat to get the oil up to temperature faster than it would get there on it's own. Once up to temperature, the Exchanger keeps the oil temperature between 10 and 20 degrees hotter than the...

If the fuel regulator screw is doing its job you must be able to get the smoke down by unscrewing? it, as it should be able to cut the fuel level down to far less than you need. If you have boost pressure there must be plenty of air arriving, cant think of any other reason for black smoke than excessive fuel, unless the timing is retarded.

Thanks for your help with the bad starting on a 1.9td Pug 306 with a Bosch system. Renewed leak off pipes and problem solved. To prove this I removed the leak off pipe from the pump connection and then fitted a blanking cap on the pump connection to seal the system and tried it before buy the pipe kit. Bingo!! Started, no problems from over night...

From what I remember, the joint can't be split from the shaft to replace the boot in the traditional way, which would mean the best way is to replace the shaft.

The CV boot on the AX has torn spreading grease everywhere. Although the joint is fine the fact the grease has gone everywhere makes me this it could do with some being fed back into it.
