Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

the trafficmaster ECU is located behind the glovebox but i doubt it would just be a plug in job. is there wiring for the switch on your car ?

With engine running and set on maximum height, with a axle stand slightly lower under the car, get a jack and lift the car by jacking it under the arm so it is forced to engage the ball joint again. This should stop it rotating on itself. Remove the nut. Remove the stand let the suspension fall on to the lowest point on the jack which should now...

when i built my daugters dersh over three years,i used GSA hand brake adjusters but had to use dersh cables,certanly makes adjusting easyer regards malcolm,ps where do you live

all cars are crash worthy if you feel unsafe then use a bus/train/plain but they also are crash worthy and tested the same as cars but the driver/operator/pilot is the question plaines/trains and busses take many lives in one go, fact is cars experience and use/time can only provide that so take a dep breath and relax because what will be will be...

If it was feasible, I think the makers of all cars would have done this years ago.
Personally I think the stress and jarring on the components would be such that you'd be snapping and cracking things everywhere.
I've heard of neoprene inserts being made mainly for track work and they reckon that whilst they wear better, they do make the ride very...

Since reading all the threads about worn bushings, I was wondering what if I was to replace the lower arm rubber bushings on the front suspension with steel inserts?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that would make them more durable and give me a better response during cornering. Am I wrong?

I dont really know but I would think that if it has a manual adjustment it would pull the pedal up, otherwise the cable would be sloppy.

Hi,
I plan to tidy up all the niggly probs on my Synergie in readiness for selling it late summer ( small dent reapirs etc ). One of its niggles is the wheel is cocked slightly since it had a full clutch change in November due to sub-frame removal.
I hoped that the tracking might be slightly out and the fresh adjustment at kwik-fit would pull it...

My xantia has no power there is no 'kick' from the turbo when pulling away and whilst driving up an incline my foot is flat to the floor dong 60mph with no accelration.
Could this be the MAP sensor?

age of car/engine cc/engine number if you have it or chassis number, if the knock sensor had a fault it would be shown on the engine warning light and a code would be available.

Centre so called anti-sink sphere will only affect the height after starting. Suspension spheres won't affect drop after the car has stopped.
You get out of the car, suspension rises due to the reduction in weight. Height corrector opens to reset height, car should drop back to its normal height. Is this in fact what you are seeing? If its going...

the brake light switch inside the pedal is probably the most common cause of CC failure on the xantia even if the brake lights are working ok.i believe there are 2 sets of contacts.

I've checked the fuses & renew them to be sure but still no joy. I've been told there is a pipe that can pop off somewhere under the battery? from my data it looks like the twin fans are at the rear of the condenser so it wont need removing, never done one but I would say the radiator needs to come out unless the slam panel can be removed, have you checked if there is power going to the aircon fans you could try to power them up from the battery this will save you lots of work and time...

That wasn't a head gasket. That was running on engine oil. Usually only when the engine is venting like a sod, or has completely worn out rings. Can also happen if the engine has been overfilled with oil.
The best way to stop the engine when this happens is to put the car in 5th, and stand hard on the brakes.

Carless Again!!!! Last Sunday I'd just got onto the M8 e/b at the Glasgow Charing X turning and I noticed a bit of blue/white smoke from the exhaust. should be a very easy one mate, its only the 8 valve so you need to line the top and bottom up TDC to remove the timing belt you can use a 10mm drill bit to lock the top cam and the same for the crank pulley, I would change the timing belt since your going that far if it needs it.

Well, my water pump is officialy dead. It hasn't seized yet but it's whirring awfully, every day gets worse.
I just bought a new one and this weekend it's replacement time. I also ordered my Haynes BOL but unfortunately I have to wait another 2 weeks for delivery.

I have some Thule bars (just the bars - not the fixing brackets) which I used on my Pug 405, and they are looking for a home...
They may be the same spec. as the Xantia. You would need the attachment that secures them either to factory roof bars, or roof edges.

Hey a Xantia air con problem with a simple solution , enjoy it anything has to be better than my nightmare, question is why if you have something that doesn't work but isn't strictly necessary do you persue it to the bitter end to fix it? after all I've never had aircon before and never worried about it, but now I've got it I just won't be...

I just put it in to have the aircon regassed (£60 at a refidgeration place not garage) and within ten seconds both fans came on, so it was just that it was low on gas. I haven't had it done for...

I think I remember that these engines suffer from mayo in the cap if short journeys are done so that it never really burns off the condensation from cold starts.

had the same problem with our very good ZX 1.9D at about 68,000 miles - My friendly mechanic did the job and it was thought that the adjusters would need freeing and he suggested new cables as they always go. Turned out cables both gone, both cylinders leaking - so new linings as well.

Hi. YES get it changed anyway, it is disasturous if it breaks!! Tensioners dont generally need changing but water pumps are recommended, as they are timing belt driven and commonly fail..

My first guess is a broken earth link.

i know this a problem which is a bit basic but on my xantia all the lights on thetop row of warning lights above the stop light and oil light have stopped coming on when i turn the ignition on, these lights are the battery light, abs, engine coolant light, etc i've checked all the bulbs and the connections with the dash and with a tester tested...

Are they the electrovalves that control the wastegate?

Hi to All,
The 2.0 HDi engine (DW10ATED - Xantia and Xsara) has two cylindrical parts that connect via vaccum tubes to the turbo. One of them connects to the wastegate I guess. Does anyone know what their function is?

If its like the TD BX there's a switch in the radiator which controlls the fans - and if you've got 2 it probably runs them in series for slow speed and parallel for high speed. On the TD the switch is on the off side just above the bottom hose. (I know the radiator has its filler on this side but it will be in one of the headers.)

I managed to get the GTi up and runnug, by butchering the radiator hose and stretching it to attach to the thermostat housing. The problem now is that the fan won't work; simple enough to fix, I think. The car rose up in about 20 seconds, this after having sat still for 3 months. It is driving rather rough, being very difficult...

Resistor pack seems a likley suspect. On the other hand - try giving the little air con sensor fan next to the clock a blast out with some compressed air (if you can, remove, clean and lube it)it may be sending false messages to the control - though shouldnt think its this stranger things have been known with Xants...

Hi. I have a problem with the fan speed on my heater/aircon. No matter where I set the fan speed controller i.e Auto/Max/Off etc the fan still operates at Maximum speed. Not too much of a problem during this hot spell but it certainly is noisy. Any ideas where too start looking?

It sounds like the brake pad thickness warning light cable.
When the pad reaches a minimum thickness, the warning light comes on.
Is one end plugged into the brake pad?
It is perfectly safe but bear in mind that the warning light will NOT operate. You will have to check the pads personally (which is no bad thing)

Is it true that you can hardly see the glow plug timer light up in this weather? Just acquired a 3yr car and I can't see the timer light up. Car does start ok. Do they use different type plugs and controller?
I can't even detect any battery drain that would normally be caused by the heavy current needed for a glow plug. New technology?

if its as easy as my ZX its just pull off HT's, unscrew, unclip king wire. also if like mine you will probably find that the stupid star bolt cross as they seem to be made out of cheese!

I have a 3.0litre V6 12 valve on LPG, returning 50mpg, and nearly going to swap the kit over to the Xantia 16v (when I get it repaired, see VALVES WANTED), but have decided, the XM is far better. If something goes wrong I'll fix it, its worth it for the Type of car and quality of fun and ride we get..... Regards

Its probably 52 litres. Some of the early BXs had 44 litre tanks, and the larger engined models could hold 66 litres, but mainly they were 52 litres.

Use two axel stands or two jacks to hold the front up, Why does she need bleeding?? Have you had pipe work problems?? I think jacking is your only solution..

From what I have read it seems that I need to have the suspension set to high with the road wheels hanging free before I bleed the brakes on my XM.
I don't know how I am going to do this at home.
Does it have to have all the road wheels hanging free?

Any petrol engined car from 1992 onwards will need its cat to be able to pass the MOT. The garage will have emission data for your model, which it must achieve, or it's a fail. Remove the cat and the emissions (particularly CO) will be out of tolerance.

If it was a known fault at the time of your order, and you were not made aware of it, then I think you would have a fairly strong case to make them take the car back and refund you, although the longer you leave it, the less chance you have of this.

I understand that Hydraclean should be left in the system for about 1000 miles for it to do the job properly.
I don't do a high mileage and that could mean that it will be in my system for quite a while.
Is there a time limit as well as a mileage limit for Hydraclean as I wouldn't want to leave it in longer than necessary?
