Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

It's not just the gasket to be replaced my friend.
The head must be skimmed as it is warped because of the overtemp. That's why the HG fails in the first place.
Next you HAVE to locate the cause of overtemp. Could be a clogged radiator, or general sludge in the cooling system.
My estimate is 3-500 as a garage job.

The gear in the steering rack is a worm gear, i.e. it's not straight cut gears so you should never be able to feel teeth. What you could be feeling is something being sticky and juddery, there are plenty of culprits.
You can check the condition of your LHM by colour, it should be green with no yellowness to it, it turns a yellowy brown colour as...

Use at least 3 people to do it, 1 on each side and 1 to undo the nuts, you will be suprised how heavy a tailgate is once its off the car

Not sure about supporting the diff gears (although I'd expect you don't need to), as for seals the two drive shaft and input oils seals should be changed as good practice.
Since you are under the car, it's a good idea to change the clutch cable if it looks old / rusty, or you are uncertain about it.

I'm planning to do a clutch change on my BX diesel built in 1991.
I'm going to try the strut-trick to avoid having to undo the lower balljoint.
So in steps:
- Remove wheel / hubnut
- release hydr. pressure, unslacken strut, remove driveshaft
- remove gearbox
- change clutch
- put everything back and pray it works :)

1) the mechanic grabbed the nearest sphere from the shelf where the package read the word accumulator
2) the mechanic is a zombie
3) the workshop uses the same type sphere for all accumulator applications - to keep down stock

Play in that axis of the wheel is probably due to the track rod end - which side was changed? Vibration could be due to the wheels needing balancing, or a CV joint on its way out (but sort that play first!).

Try punching in the code 0001 and see if it then goes to a green light and starts.
That is considered a default code.
There is a procedure to reprogramme the original PIN or whatever you choose after that.
If that don't work, we're both inda$#!+.

Had the NS front tyre wear (evenly) much more than the off side on our 1.9D. It can't be the necksnapping acceleration! but the tyre fitter who spotted an alignment fault said it was common to find nearside tyre wear and this was due to the cornering forces generated on roundabouts. I'm inclined to believe him as it does get thrown into...

I've got 93 Zx Aura TDand since I have owned it (2 years) it waers alot more on the near side front wheel, on the outter edge of the tyre. Tracking is fine, had all the wishbone and bushs replaced but she still wears on the outter edge of the tyre which is getting expensive.

With regard to the keypad. If you do not know the code then DO NOT re-connect it. I understand that, once the engine is running, you can disconnect the keypad and then the engine will start without it. I assume that this is the case with your car. Some members of the forum have used a 'magic code' when they have had imobiliser problems...

Am I right in thinking that when the engine is switched off and the HP pump stops pumping the pressure in the anti sink sphere exceeds the system pressure and this it what sets the anti sink valve into it's hold up the back position??

Since changing the anti sink sphere on the Xantia I am getting a ratchet type noise, i.e. a rapid series of clicks that lasts about 1 to 2 seconds as the suspension settles after switching the engine off. Tried citaerobics but it still happens. Linkages are well lubed and suspension seems othewise ok and quiet.

Driving against kerbs ?
If not too severe the rubber can be freshened up with common silicone spray - even a DOT brake fluid makes tyre rubber look fresh & new.
If the tyrewalls are not damaged there is nothing wrong in doing some make-up to the rubber.

it is only a fail if you can see the cord through outer skin of rubber,and as FAF said spare and or spare carrier is only a fail if insecure,so if this is the case give it some therapy,also its best to have some sort of tyre in usable condition you never know when the air sucking fairy will strik regards malcolm

I would hve said 'definitly tyres' but you seem to have exhausted all the possibilities. Are any of your wheels damaged? Does the vibration increase when the car is hot (long journey) if so it could be the inner joints on the driveshafts that are worn, only usually happens on a very high mileage car, as the temperature increases the grease looses...

It would be best to give the pulleys a spin when the belt is off to listen for rough running. My 2.1 diesel is on roughly the same mileage and although I've done the belt twice, the tensioner pulley is still smooth.

I havn't done one on a Xantia but the one on my XM which is a similar set up was quite easy. Its just a question of disconnecting the pipes and removing whatever holds the rad in. Haynes manual should tell you.

What are you using to adjust the tick over speed? Are you adjusting the stop on the accelarator lever? Is it a Bosch pump or a Lucas? Do you have a waxstat cold idle device or a vacuum thingumy?

Just recently noticed that the car tends to wander about slightly ,never only in one direction but I have the feeling that I can`t really let go of the steering wheel.This became noticeable after renewing the rear tyres.

The fronts are two different makes due to having to use the spare a while ago which I then replaced with the best rear tyre...

Can someone tell me what size shaft the XM turbo friction plate slots over? I know most PSA shafts are 18mm but some are 21mm.
I need to know if I can fit an XM turbo clutch kit to the BE3 gearbox I have.

Does anyone know if theres any difference bewteen the exhaust system on the 2.1 TD Xantia and the more common 1.9 TD Xantia?
I've found I can get get good prices on components from places like GSF for the 1.9, but when I ask for my 2.1 I'm stuck paying huge prices to places like Kwik Fit.

Does it smoke on startup only or all the time? If its startup only it could be a glowplug or two or air. If it does it all the time the first line of attack would be air.
How old is it? which pump - bosch or rotodiesel?

Posted last week as I was changing head gasket on my Xantia 1.9D. Got head pressure tested and skimmed, they had to take alot off and suggested a 5 notch gasket. Probably one of 3 things.
Too much oil in the engine (over full)
Engine managment glitch (get it read by a dealer or someone with the correct software)
Fault with the stop system on the fuel pump (uncommon & possibly implausable as the HDi uses a comon rail HP system)
My money is on number 2 - and its likely to be a sensor fault - but more than...

Engine management light has come on, sometimes from start it goes into limp home mode and won't let me rev over 2200rpm, turn engine off and restart keeps light on but lets me use full rev range.

Right, you'll have the Clarion 4035 like mine then by the sounds of it. That means you'll need the Clarion 6 disc changer with the round DIN type plug to fit.
Basically you get the changer, a bracket (makes it easier to mount in the boot) and a huge long lead that plugs into the rear of the head unit supplying the changer with power and to feed...

It may well be the case that the fault needs to be 'cleared' from the ecu memory to cancel the light ilumination.

Is anyone aware of any circuitry that may keep the ABS dashboard warning light on once a sensor has been replaced? I have a Xantia activa that was diagnosed was nearside rear ABS sensor intermittent. It has been replaced and the light has stayed on. Any help appreciated.

Find the Bitron relay which I am told on some is behind the RH headlight and on others it's in a box with the ECU and pull the plug out. If the fans then spin at full bore, that takes the fans out of the equation.
The air con will never work particularly at low speeds with no condensor fans, so sort them first to see if they are the problem or the...

Sheesh, they put this thing in well didn't they! Well, if the boot rubber seal is anything like the ones round the rear doors then you'll be fine. I ripped those off to fit my changer and they went back on fine. I agree though, taking trim off is the worst thing in the world. Awful job.....

Ok. It looks as if the carpet and the cradle are bolted into the boot below the hatch door.
Looks as though I am going to have to remove the plastic lining of the boot. Am I right in thinking all I have to do is remove the rubber seal and it will come free?

To get at the clutch means removal of the N/S driveshaft and the g/box. I'll bet the garage has used tie wraps to hold the CV gaiters on and they're catching on something as they go round, hence it's doing it at road wheel speed.
Does it only do it when the clutch is pressed or all the time? Take it back to the garage that fitted it. They should...

got a clutch fitted last month and im now hearing tapping noise when im moving and push the clutch in just as tho you have a stone in tyre it speeds up and down consistant with road speed but not engine speed either in strieght line left/right. its coming from left hand side of car.

Has the chip boosted the turbo output? If not play around with the activator to get a little more boost. It will probably go to about 9 psi before the actuator is overcome.

I have tuned my Activa (2.0 Turbo) with a Superchip and so far it goes great. I think of replacing the factory's exhaust pipe (after the first part leaving the engine) and the catalyst with a larger diameter pipe and an Americat catalyst.

Have you got trailer lights fitted? Proper Citroen lead/socket has a nice switch in the socket which turns off the car foglights when the trailer is attached. Replace proper socket with an ordinary one and the rear foglights don't work!
Disconnect trailer wire form LH rear light and plug back together - if it now works thats the problem - cure by...

Sounds like it mate. I had a similar issue when going round roundabouts in my old Cavalier. Thump thump thump from the N/S driveshaft.
Replacing it required a big hammer and a huuuge length of pipe. Brutal job!

Following a recent engine change, my assistant didnt bother to tighten up the intermediary joints on the long side drive shaft (BX16v). Found it when said relacement engine needed a head change, but had done a good 1000 miles on it! Oil seal was destroyed on the diff box.
Now when driving and on a full right hand lock there is a very loud routine...

They are very close so thats a sign that the other sensors are OK. Normally these things fail completely as has the right rear one. If its like the bX one yo'll enjoy replacing it!

Thers hould be a manual eject button on the case of the multi changer some where. You'll need to remove from the car and press this it'll let go of the cartridge.

The CD changer is jammed probably by one of the holders. I need to dismantle. Does anyone know how to ghet the grey case off?

I think all BX PAS racks are the same. maybe working some grease in under the gairer will welp? Inner track rod ends are available (used to be from GSF) wear would show up as a movement under the gaiters.

My 1990/1 1.7 TD BX (1991) has slight movement in the drivers side of the power steering Ram (deffo not T.R. Ends). The free movement is happening under the gaiter or in the Ram itself. The Ram doesn't leak but it feels slightly heavier than it should be (and always has for years).
