Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

The 2.1 td engine has the thermostat in the return pipe, so there is no restriction to water entering the top of the block, as long as you keep filling the header tank until it wont take anymore, the whole system should be full, its a slow process though. You can, if you would feel happier, disconnect the heater return pipe and, with the engine...

Sounds like anti-sink valve to me. Don't think they are considered serviceable. I would suggest that a careful tap with a hammer might do something at least temporarily but there have been some postings on here about them bursting of their own accord so encouragement is not such a good idea.

Glad it's back together without damage. The TUD5 engine is brilliant in a town runaround car - this 106D is a school run mobile, and nearly always betters 65mpg even at 103k miles.

Well, the 1.5 is the heaviest engine of the lot, and I find the steering borderline. However, the steering always feels lighter when:
a) There are new tyres on the front.
b) The front tyres are the correct pressure.
Have you tried checking these ?
Also, the Peugeot 106 1.5d had ( I think ) power steering, not sure about the saxo or the petrol...

Has anyone fitted power steering to an Ax? My Dad has an Ax MkII 1.0 Jazz 3dr and is finding the steering heavy when backing up or parking. I wondered if it is possible to retro fit power steering to the car? I think the Saxo steering rack is the same as the Ax not sure about the other bits needed.

On diesels it can be hard to recognise a fast ticking regulator - caused by a flat accumulator sphere. More often than not this is the cause of mysterious hydraulic problems.
I'd start here - as it is cheap and very easy to replace.
(it's the sphere located on front of engine)

I think there are two typs of front/back pipes - those for cars with ABS and those without.
Genuine Citroen pipes are not considered expensive and come beautifully bent to shape. To shape really does mean that - no tugging and heaving here. (I replaced the one form the regulator to the safety valve on my BX and when I got it in place it just...

Might/not be a connector at each A-pillar for the heated mirror. If not - it's a simple matter of finding the rear window heater wire - as the mirrors runs on the heated rear.
You must of course DIY a suitable earth connection.

Oscar,
There are 3 bushes on each arm - 2 identical ones at the front (either end of the pivot bolt) and the larger 'P' bush at the rear. So for each arm you need:
2 x N42234 FR CONT ARM FR BUSH
1 x N42235 FR CONT ARM REAR BUSH (P)
The 'A' after the part number indicates it is a pattern part, which will be cheaper.

Both points have been covered on this siet - welding of the strut mount isn't difficult. The axle beam is not common DIY but may be possible. There are specialists who will fit an overhauled one while you wait.

1. Rusty patches in front of the front suspension mounts, I think if prodded will perforate. Easy welding job.
2. Sat on the opened boot edge (about 11 stone), and the back hardly moved, released the hand brake, checked again, and it went down about 25mm, and was very stiff.

Well, after measuring both camshafts side by side, there is NO difference in the lift. It is considerably more difficult to measure for duration, but it appears that this is also the same on both cams. So in summary, it is not worth swapping the cam on your TD to those of the na diesel, as you will gain nothing. Or more accurately, I have gained...

You're a tooth out somewhere. It's very easy to do on this engine, I managed to do similarly on a 1.4TUD, and bent 2 valves. Oops! I'd suggest you try and find the timing marks. They do exist. According to the book I have for timing belts, the one on the flywheel is an 8mm bolt on the front of the enigne, the camshaft on is at about 4 o'clock on...

There are some diagrams here :

I believe you in fact meant the ARB (anti roll bar) ? - as there are no droplinks on the rear. The ARB will mask which side is the worst but not that the problem is there.
The job involves 3 major trials :
1) removing the ARB (bolts are incredible tight)
2) removing the arm long pivot bolt (again a tight bolt/nut)...

You need a pretty fine filter to get the suspended particles out, a sand filter would be ideal if a little slow. Whatever filter you use it has to filter particles down to the size that your fuel filter will capture otherwise your fuel filter will get clogged pretty quickly.

Its probably much simpler and no where near as interesting. The boos pressure is communicated to an extra fuel device on the pump by a thin rubber pipe running between the high pressure inlet system (ie after the turbo) and the injection pump and this pipe has probbaly split or fallen off.

Check that the stop solenoid on the diesel pump is working (any loose connections?) If not, its probably going to need replacing.

I have a Citroen Xantia where the engine does not turn off on the key! Car is an L reg 1.9D hatchback
I have to stall the car to turn it off (not good for my clutch/gearbox i think!!)
How can i resolve this?

Sounds about right. Earth should be easy to find, just check for low resistance to handy earth point. One should go live when you switch the ignition on. One should go live when you switch the lights on. The one that's left will be the feed to the compressor clutch. If you can't get a switch from Citroen, you will need to get down the scrappers...

i realy do belive the switch i have is for the a/c with snowflake and the word stop i have spoken to astroair and this conferms it they tend to use factory fit switches for a tidy apperence and it was one from a later models autoadaptive box hence the confusion now here is the hard bit

Track Control Arms are also known as wishbones and the 205 has two non-inbterchangable types. One is for the GTi/Turbo Diesel models and another is for all the others. Given the model of 205, the correct ones can be identified. They're handed hence RH and LH (as you sit in the car)

hi, i have a fluid leak from the front underneath of car,its coming from plastic casing with fluid pipes connected to it. its right next to the middle lower front sphere,at first sighting it looked like the fluid was coming from a nipple nut, but its from underneath a plastic case with a rubber pipe on top and a electric connector on side of it....

you just have to remember that probably not every connector will be used, when i bought my car i looked at the engine and found 1 or 2 connectors just flapping about, but soon found places where sender units could be but have never been

I recently changed the oil in my V6 autobox. The correct type is Esso LT71141 which should be available from your Cit dealer. I think it was about £15 a bottle and I used three bottles, although you may find it cheaper elsewhere. What originally seems to be a fuel leakage from the high pressure axe seal, turn to be a fuel leakage from the pressure regulator mounted in the back of the HDi pump. Fortunately, I got the seal from a store, but they sold me three seals, one black o´ring, one small green o´ring and one like teflon seal.

Ah, that's a nasty one. You've got two options:
1. Remove the rack, and completely dismantle it, so you can fit the gaiter from the other side of that ram stud (the official Citroen Version) - the gaiter is virtually the first thing fitted when the rack is built .
2. Get a stretchy gaiter and force it carefully over that stud from the outside....

I'm trying to change the steering rack gaiters on my xantia and on the N/S there is a ball joint that attaches to the power steering ram, Does anyone know how to remove this as the gaiter seemed to pass between the two before i removed it.

Get an old seat belt with the eye attached. Get some abrasive paper, wrap it around the sphere, then wrap around the belt 2-3 turns. Pass a suitable bar through the belt eye and dig the bar end in to the spere and lever off.....works for me every time but sometimes I have to use my boot to add enough leverage. Be carefull though these cars can...

you lot reckon to chisel in to it?? i depressured using 12mm bolt and have her up on stands quite high, but swinging mallet room is still limited from underneath

Sam, sounds like you have the older auto which does not have the snow mode, that's only on the late auto-adaptive box, which went in very late into the production run of S2's, so I'd work on the basis you were before - it's a/c - what climate panel do you have?

This should be a good starter...

Obviously you'll need to strip the drums off to get the handbrake cables out (32mm socket and long bar required to get the hub nuts off!). You may well need to change the handbrake cables, not sure about that. As you'll be removing the brake flexis anyway, replace them as a matter of course. On disc equipped cars...

Glad you got it all sorted Jim. Nice to have the car as it was meant to be.
My first experiance of ABS was in CX's and on at least one occasion saved me from an accident, just for being able to steer whilst breaking hard.
Speedo cables, oh what fun, done a couple of BXones in my time :-)

After owning my Xantia for nigh on three months I discovered it had ABS and went through what was nearly hell to get the ABS warning light working again, only to find I had a duff sensor on the offside front. Thanks enormously to this forum for the information on testing sensors and locating the duff one. I could not have done it without this...

If when it does start don't waste your money on new plugs. The generally fail one at a time in quick sucession so the starting would get lumpier and lumpier and steadily more difficult.
By all means chack them - take the lead off the top and connect a wire from the battery with a bulb in it to each in turn. If the light lights the plug is ok.
