Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

At 5 years old its almost certainly the front suspension spheres if they have never been changed. Life expectancy is generally thought to be age related only and mileage doesn't make much difference. The others should be checked - accumulator (vital to the corect functioning of the brakes) by checking the ticking rate - should be 30 seconds or...

You tend to get these problems with a red car. - seriously - we like to cheat a bit on here and knowing the make, model, engine and model level and sometimes even the transmission type and the year makes a difference.

I had the misfortune to have a snapped cable and also a faulty wotzit (don't know what its called but I'm assuming its the adjuster for the cable !) When I say faulty, its now in bits as it fell apart when I removed the whole things from the car !!

heres one for you.
doing a pre long drive check on car and had a good look at all the pipes etc and lo and behold the pipe had perished creating a hole just as it goes into the wide pipe going across to the intercooler, the pipe to look at is the one going from the top of the pump onto the big pipe. checked my mates exactly the same now i know why...

Is it heavy knocking or a more lighter rattle/knock? As it sounds like mine did on semi bumpy roads, a light knocking going round bends or corners, worked it out to being the anti roll bar link rods

OI have a 95 1.9td Xantia SX. In the last week or so, it has started knocking from under the front end when being driven, particularly on semi-bumpy roads.
It APPEARS to be lower down than the engine, but I'm just wondering if there's anything these beasts are renowned for breaking that I can look out for...

Could be broken front spring (replace both), soft rear torsion bar (should be adjustable but not easy) or other rear problem, collapsed subframe mount or perhaps rust around the front turrets (not common but holes can appear behind the PAS reservoir and on the other side)

Just noticed that with my car on the drive, the driver's side is sitting lower than the other (maybe 10-15mm) - seems the same front and back. Is this a problem? Any theories?
I had the rear bushes etc. done about 40k ago and an new shocker fitted to the n/s front about 10k ago. Other than looking a bit odd (if you look carefully) it...

- these days any BX would have had the piping replaced - or is highly overdue. The original piping wont last more than some 8-10years. It's simply dangerous driving on with such old piping.

Mot's what a joy!!!! Just had mine and the wife's fiat done, My car only needed an inner steering rack joint, c.v boot and re-align the headlights (quads, never been aligned! and all bols seized!)not bad for a 15 year old and the wife's needed a new shock that was replaced for last years mot! I can't help you with the car but maybe with the engine. I am on my fourth 2.1td XM (same engine) and I think they are an excellent engine although not as easy to work on as the 1.9. they are smooth, quite and 110 bhp and 183lbs/ft torque which means they are quite rapid and pull like a train, they are also very economical. 40-50 mpg in the XM...

Mother old xant had a boot spoiler on it, but without a brake light, just a blanking plate, removing that revealed the plug & wiring already in place.
I spend a half hour tracing the wire back & take as much loom as possable

yes,
although the electronics are very basic and can be replicated yourself with a switch and an led with resistor, it does save much hassel to buy this unit.
my fault code reader helped me through curing my unsteady idling,
not realy much to say about them tho, easy to connect (just make sure you get a good earth, which seems closer to the batter...

I don't know the 106 specifically but there is plenty on this forum about trailing arm bearings - try the search. They seem to be pretty similar in construction througout the PSA range.

i dont need the barrel or wires, just the little plastic switch which is inside the barrell...all dealers & parts suppliers say £45 - £95 and they dont seperate them..so that includes the barrel, wires n everythin else

Firstly, make sure the nut on the end of the drive shaft is properly tightened. Secondly, what else did you do to replace the drive shaft? - most sudden faults are due to your most recent activity on the car. Check that everthing you loosen or took off is properly back in place again, is working as it should and is tightened as it should be.

just replaced the n/s driveshaft after it being knackered! but now i seem to have a prob with the brakes on that side..there ok at low speed but if braking from speed the seem to chatter and dont feel as if they are gripping. could i have a warped disc from the dodgy cv joint being on that side for a while? or is it something else unrelated to the...

Richard,just had a look at mine - it`s below the air cleaner intake tube straight down from the distributer at 90 degr.
It is red/brown and black and about 6 after the exit from the large wiring loom which runs across the front of the engine.

My bet is the reasons are:
No US mechanician is able to translate millimeters to fractions of an inch, which changes the instruction of get a 13mm socket wrench to a story that must be taken to thir Congress to be judged rightfully (starring Sandra Bullock),

Firstly, the electric window problem is quite likely to be one of the switches, as thet are connected in a 'two way' circuit, either of them could cause the window not to work. To test you could try swapping them over with the ones that do work. The only cure for these , other than replacement, is to take them apart and give the contacts a good...

For the cost of a sender unit it is worth trying. 95 is not that high, have you checked to see if the flow is OK? can you feel a lower temperature from the bottom hose to the top one? I would also check your thermostat as this is the most likely problem. Take it out, immerse in a pan of water and see if it opens fully as it starts to boil.

Not sure about this, on my zx i bought an aftermarket spoiler (same as the 16v one), which had holes for 2 m8 bolts, however, it was supplied with glue, and i didnt want to drill the glass (could result in being rather expensive if it cracked), so i glued the spoiler in place, with the glue, and it is really solid. Apparently its the glue they use...

Rang my local citroen dealer about the two screws that hold the 16v spoiler through the glass. Imagine my suprise then to be told, no sir its actually riveted on. Na I thought he must think im talking about the volcane spoiler, so I asked again. Nope definitely not riveted, cos I've undone the two screws.

Honestly Brian -
You are nitty pitty here - as it does not matter if the spring is fitted with its crossbar up or down. It fits perfectly either way.
I have never considered this a problem and simply pr backbone fitted the pad spring like I wanted - up or down - as I never even thought about how the strictly correct fitting is.

item 9 Locate the spring clip with the crossbar at the BOTTOM of the caliper and retain it in position with the through bolt (photo).
But the photo 4.4A shows the crossbar at the TOP of the caliper.

The same thing happened to me when i replaced my front discs, all i did was drill the screw head enough (i used a 10mm drill bit)to release the disc & then used heat to release what was left of screw or leave remains there as wheel bolts will hold disc in place.

I've asked some time ago where was the knock sensor located in my car. It seemed that everybody agreed that there are no knock sensors in the 2.0 8 valve ZX.
But after reading my BOL (It finnaly arrived!!!), I was reading about the fuel injection system and it mentions a knock sensor in my car.
So, is this another lie of the BOL?

I used to get a booster and two car seats in the back if the Xantia.

I have fitted a booster seat in the rear of my Xantia but the booster is wide and so the seat belt buckle is then under the back of the booster. Anybody have this problem? I have had to use the buckle for the middle lap strap.

When driving in traffic and coming to a halt - the engine is under load and then suddenly relaxed.
This is not the case when testing at standstill.
Result is different amount of vacuum in the inlet manifold under the 2 different conditions.

Unfortunately, Citroën mechanics out there are just that - mechanics - with no passion or will to understand a basic system, so simple...(ok, the Activa needs some more studying )

Righto, I take it you have a 4035 head unit with a 'CD' button on the front? The lead you should have with a Clarion is a round din type one. I fitten mine in the boot of my car screwed to the back of the passenger side seat. The cable (a good 6 foot long one) went through the steel panel the seat rests on (I drilled a hole), then under the rear...

Wheel bearing would show up more on turning left or right? Sounds very much like a drive shaft joint to me which complains when chassis is driving the engine,going downhill, and when the engine is driving the slack is taken up in the motion, so no noise. They are not a hard job if you have the kit to do it.

Firstly have you done all the work yourself? the reason I ask is i understand that the plugs on the rear cylinders are hard to get at and its not unknown for 'professionals' to leave them.

It does not matter if it is steel or alloy wheels in 16 size. What matters are the size of tyres you put on the alloys
If you already know what index tyres goes on the Volcane - you also know the basic size on C2 alloys to fit.

An old TD will go into a newer car without any problems at all if you swap over the fuel pump. The basic engine blocks and internal components didn't change when the electronic fuel pump came in.
There are other bits and pieces that you may have to swap over too, e.g. if one has air con and the other hasn't the sumps will have to be swapped.

Rule no 1 : dont ever touch the cooling system with a hot engine.
Now you're ready to do some testing
You could have an airlock. Try brim the headet tank (from cold - as pr rule 1 - agree ?). Then let engine idle until fan comes on.
If your Xantia does not have a header tank - use a homemade one. Instructions are found in the Hints forum.

hmmm, it can be done, through the Peugeot Laser system which can be got at through the Peugeot website. Only problem is that it costs a small fortune to do and is REALLY not worth the effort or cost! I think there is a site somewhere with the pug parts lists and while i dont think you can search them as such there the only cheap/free option for...

Sticking (or possibly just normally operating) relay i'd say.
Take top off fuse box and feel with a fingertip each relay whilst the noise is happening. You should find it. Then check your handbook and see what this relay does :-)

The 2.1 td engine has the thermostat in the return pipe, so there is no restriction to water entering the top of the block, as long as you keep filling the header tank until it wont take anymore, the whole system should be full, its a slow process though. You can, if you would feel happier, disconnect the heater return pipe and, with the engine...

Sounds like anti-sink valve to me. Don't think they are considered serviceable. I would suggest that a careful tap with a hammer might do something at least temporarily but there have been some postings on here about them bursting of their own accord so encouragement is not such a good idea.

Well, the 1.5 is the heaviest engine of the lot, and I find the steering borderline. However, the steering always feels lighter when:
a) There are new tyres on the front.
b) The front tyres are the correct pressure.
Have you tried checking these ?
Also, the Peugeot 106 1.5d had ( I think ) power steering, not sure about the saxo or the petrol...

Has anyone fitted power steering to an Ax? My Dad has an Ax MkII 1.0 Jazz 3dr and is finding the steering heavy when backing up or parking. I wondered if it is possible to retro fit power steering to the car? I think the Saxo steering rack is the same as the Ax not sure about the other bits needed.
