Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

To put it simply, rear brake pressure is designed to increase with loading. You effectively have no weight in the car, hence no brakes :-)

Torque wrench: a meduim sized one. probably a 1/2 drive. You will also need an angle gauge

Why do you want to remove the injectors?
Have you even read the haynes manual yet? This is a fairly long & involved job, and to stand any chance of sucess you need to be sure you can complete the job before you start it.

on a previous question some 1 asked this and most of the people thought that the ecu held the number and it didn't matter whaere the keypad came from as the keypad didnt hold the number if that makes any sence

The water pumps that you get from motor factors these days are total crap, the problem with them is that the gasket face is not machined but left as it's been cast, if you clean (and I mean clean) every trace of old gasket off the block, you will more than likely notice the pump rocking on a high spot when offered up to the block.

I took the plastic guard tray off the car (on both my Xantia TD and my Mondeo) and it makes no diffrence to the car whatsoever. I think that the manufacturer puts these guards on to protect rubber pipes/exposed sections of subframe/manifold downpipes and cat converters and also to stop us who like to tamper with cars i.e to make it more difficult...

Depending on what work they've done, it could be just that the self-adjusters haven't ratcheted themselves back to the position you're used to. I had a similar sensation on my Xant after a front brake overhaul, and it was so soft that for a while I thought the calipers were sticking. My Xantia did 664.8 miles on the last tank, it did cost a bit more than £40 to fill up though - more like £60. 48mpg though.

Well filled up last Wednesday, I have done 596 miles and its just bobbled on the red light, though when i get back in it later tonight the tank will have settled slightly so will be off the red light.

Fan MUST be removed complete as an assembly : motor & blower wing. Otherwise you must go shopping.
The rear side where the male spade connectors goes in is where you start the operation.

If its a 3door its behind the trim panel under the rear passenger window, if its a 5door i'm not sure, think i remember reading it might be under the passenger seat.

Had the same problem with mine, light permermantly flashing. Turned out to be the connectors under the drivers seat this time for the seatbelt pre tensioners. Quick clean and spray with wd40 and problem solved.

Unless I'm mistaken, the link you put up refers to a diesel and if yours is a 1.8i 16V then you need to look at this.

That is a BX and I don't know how similar they are, but one thing's for sure, if you're driving one around with a split O ring, you ain't drivin' a car ol' son; you're driving a potential incendury bomb.

Its more likely to be due to the height corrector valve sticking. Several applications of WD40 over a couple of days should do the trick.

A friends Xant has dseveloped the habit of riding down the road with the back end stuck up in the air. When the suspension lever is put to low , it sinks OK, when put to high , it rises OK.

Astonishingly as it may sound, my recent acquisition - 1983 GSA Pallas is only realistically showing signs of surface rust. In only a few cases is it in fairly advanced stages. Does anyone know ( apart from Waxoil) any good join sealers, good primers and rust killing products?

I wouldn't worry about it. I have had about ten hydropnumatic Citroens and they have all had different characteristics, some stay up, some sink, some the front comes up first and so on. As long as its OK when you are driving, forget about it.

Ok suspension experts:
The front now sinks to the bump stops within a couple of hours of switching off. I started noticing it sinking a bit overnight a few weeks ago, gradually this has sped up. The rear stays at normal height.
When the car is started the rear initially sinks all the way down, then after 20 seconds or so the car rises to normal...

its this weekend at stoke-on-trent, i`ll pinpoint the location tomorrow from the boss. we have a load of redundant stock from wyatts of winchester,poole and lymington all goin cheap :- ds and 2cv oil filters, bx headlamps, c15/visa bonnets, exhaust boxes, alternators, doors and outer skins, bumpers...you name it we might have it.

sounds like you have the clip problem on the front too, with the clip broken you only have high max or low, i believe.

Not bad at all, the ZX has always rated as a good car in my book.
On a similar point a few weeks ago we went to Kelso for the 2CV friends world meeting, from our door to kelso was just under 300 miles, not bad for a 21 year old 602cc car pulling a trailer tent :-)
Cant beat these Citroens.

Ramps are fine.
Just remember to undo the spheres a little whilst at full height then remove when at zero pressure

Hi, just a quick one. Can you change the rear spheres on a Xantia with the car on ramps? The Haynes BOL suggests putting it up on axle stands and removing the relevant wheel - is this just to allow better access, or is it the only way? Thanks in advance.

Its a straight forward job- you will need a hub puller to pull the hub off- it may just pull off by hand but sods law says it won't- and it helps to have a grinder to cut the old inner race off the stub axle.
What happens is that the outer bits of the bearing stay with the old hub when you pull it off but the inner race will be stuck on the stub...

Is the camshaft still going round....????
I had a similar problem with a BX TD with a sezied alternator - stalled and wouldn't restart as it couldn't turn over fast enough.
If it's a Bosch pump, a bit of air causes all sorts of starting woe - even if the failure is on the return side.

You can saw the head off the bolt with either a junior hacksaw or a full size hacksaw blade, the downside is that you'll need a new bolt afterwards (or a welder to put the head back on). Water based paint is only water based when its applied, when it dries it changes composition, otherwise in this country we would all be driving round in primer! All you need to apply the paint is a perfectly flat surface, rub it down firstly with about 100 grit wet & dry, then perhaps 400, finishing with 1000.

Hi helen, ask your brother to put your xant on some ramps and check that the small white plastic clip that connects the rear height controller to the clamp on the anti-roll bar is still attached... This is a common and easily fixed problem ! Tell your brother if he keeps insulting your car, it will really give him some trouble (like the head...

The metallic knocking IMHO is the best leader to the problem. Any minor balancing imperfection woulkd affect wear in the steering/suspension components.
Could be droplinks, control arm bushes or the lower sviwel balljoint.

Why new Xantia (like my old one) suffers from not having enough bulbs lit up on the dash so that at night some of the dials don't light up/ are faded. Would it cost a fortune to get an auto electrician to rectify this? I don't fancy pulling the dash apart myself.

not really much you can do about it without getting the fault codes read with suitable software except checking all the sensors & auctuators are plugged in securely.it would just be a guess otherwise.

Its probably the rear hieght corrector sticking. Several applications of WD40 over a few days should do it.

Can anyone suggest where I look to find out what the problem is. Symptoms are:
On start up the front levels out OK but the rear doesn't rise.
On raising the lever to the second height position the rear eventually comes up.
Dropping to normal height the car then performs OK for a while but eventually drops to minimum as being driven.

I know it seems ludicrous on at 10 year old Xantia, but does anyone know of a good upholsterer to re-upholsterer drivers leather seat in the South East? I’m looking for a quality job that will match original workmanship and colour.

Had the same problem wiht my mom's, from one moment to the next, though it was the front squirt not working.A such, new pump was installed.
The mechanic removed the screws on the right side of the front bumper, plus the ones of the grill at the middle, where the bonnet closes, just to pull the bumper aside enough for reaching the water...

I can hear the pump whirring away, but nary a drop of water makes it to the tailgate :-( On the C5 the washer reservoir is mounted somewhere behind the grille, and I assume that the one pump does for everything. The front screen wash is fine. The worrying thing is that the rear washer pipe appears to be threaded through the roof...

Is this a diesel we are talking about? If so, it does indeed have a spring loaded tensioner. Slacken the locking bolt above the pully and move the pulley to remove the tension, this can be done by pulling hard on the belt (if you are going to change it) when right back re tighten the bolt and it will lock the pulley in position until you release...

Well, ive finally got round to doing the cambelt on the Xantia. Im a bit puzzled about the tensioner though, I thought that it was a spring loaded type of tensioner - that tensioned itself???? I have had a search on the forum but cant find anything.

I never got more than 44 litres into my 1.4i. I never trusted the yellow light...it seemed to have pickup problems at anything like low levels, especially when parked on an uphill slope.
I wasn't too impressed when it nearly stopped in the outside lane of the M62 either (managed to splutter to Hartshead Moor to fill up).
You should be safe to use...
