Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Have tried the keys in the door but nothing.
What happens? Does the key just spin? You should be able to unlock with the keys, even if the car is dead locked (after I cooked the plips on my previous car I found that you could get it to dead lock by holding the key in the lock position for a second or so, and then it unlocked no problem with the...

Hmm, it's not very straightforward. There should be a live feed, but the other wires are to do with the keypad communicating with the electronics in the solenoid - no idea what does what. Does the keypad still give you a green light after you enter the code?
Unfortunately there's only way to remove the solenoid, and that's to remove the injection...

The normal alternator for the TD12 engine is a Mitsubishi. The alternator from any TD12-powered car should fit (Xantia 2.1 td, Puegeot 605 td, 405 2.1 td, 406 2.1 td, 806 2.1 td, Citroen Evasion(Synergy) 2.1 td).

I usually remove the long driveshaft at that point,its apparently not strictly necessary but it makes things easier, especially putting it all back, you also need to support the engine though it will need to droop down in order for the gearbox to get out, you will need to remove the long pin that goes through the gearbox mount before it will go...

I have one fitted to my BX TD, its got to help the efficiency, I went for an impretza copy which is almost as wide as the intercooler, it doesnt look too bad at all, quite unobtrusive really, and I am actually too old to be a boy racer.

When did you last change the fuel filter? Your problems sound like fuel starvation, and with a partially blocked filter the system will function normally until maximum flow is demanded. Similar problems could occur with a lazy fuel pump but I'd look at the filter first.

Believe you get to them from the wheelarch, at least on the older S1 ABS setup. I've seen a picture somewhere online, maybe from Laszlo or Jint?
Is your's the later abs (teeves?), in which case it's probably similar, but different enough to be undoing the wrong bolts.

It's not that obvious from 3 of the 4 faces of the block. The Haynes Book and Russek don't really give much help either.

While trying to work out the source of a cooling problem on my 2.1TD Xantia, I unplugged the bitron sensor. My understanding is that this is a standard test of the sensor as it should put both fans on at full speed. The fans did turn up to full speed, but when I looked at them only one was running.

You're on the right track. You need to drive to York to reset the radio code.
It used to be Paris, but pressure from this forum led to Citroen UK operating a reset beacon in York.
In real life, however, I had the same problem. Put in a new (or fully-charged) battery, and that seemed to solve it, after an hour or so sitting.

Sounds to me that the locking solenoid isn't working on the lock. I think you may be lucky and get it working by wriggling the electrical connector that plugs into the lock itself. If not it should unlock by pulling the bar that connects to the locking pin on the door card inside.

It's an odd time of year for a dead battery to show itself. Might be as well to get it tested before you invest in a new one, because things like alarm or ECU faults can drain them. My dad's Rover had its battery drained because somehow the boot light was permanently on.

Is it running at the correct temperature? - eg thermostat stuck open?
Are there any seals round the injectors - and if so have they failed?
Are any breather pipes connecting to the inlet manifold in good condition and FIRMLY attached - they may have perished and let air in.

I'd bet there are more problems with that. If the water pump fails, then usually the cambelt goes too, and you know what that spells!

Ive seen a nice BX diesel for sale with a boken water pump. Could be a bargain but I dont know whether it could be driven from its destination (Surrey to the Midlands) due to the water pump. Does anyone know if you can risk driving a car with a broken water pump while keeping an eye on the temperature guage etc? Cheers, Adam.

Does it ride at the correct height? if not it may be hitting the bump stops. If you look under the car the rear suspension arms should be fairly level at normal ride height, if OK how about your tyre pressures and/or condition, the tyres have more effect on the low speed ride than the spheres.

I changed all spheres and lhm about a month ago and since then I seem to cave collected a few chirps whilst going over bumps and sometimes for apparently no reason,
also another thing that maybe of some use is that whilst going @ moderate speed ride is good but going slow the rear seems to be a hard ride...

I dont know this engine, being a diesel man, but if it has hydraulic tappets it could be low oil pressure to the tappets, increasing with speed, it could be to do with the way the head has been fitted, where the oil flows from the block to the head.

I have just recently had the head rebuilt on my 2.0 8V Xantia and have noticed that the camshaft/followers are noisy when the engine is cold and under load. Increasing the engine speed above 3k and the noise disappears. The engine currently runs on 10W40 semi-synthetic but I will be changing the oil shortly to fully synthetic.

I never got that hang of it either and concluded that my spare plip was fried - although I did manage to reprogram the good one. I imagine the plip is trained as any generic remote control is when purchased for domestic audio-visual equipment

I have a problem with a non working PLIP on my '96 Xantia and have read all the posts on the subject I can find and either they're not apliccable to mine or I'm completely missing something.
PLIP worked fine until I disconnected the battery to change the lighting stalk on the steering column.

Well for starters the Hydractive 2 strut tops have a much larger (and different) pipe fitting to the non-Hydractive 2 strut tops, so definately not compatible...

Im fairly sure this pipe (if its above the alternator) isnt pressurised at all except when running - even then its not high pressure as you have the XUD9 not the HDi engine.
The pipe is secured with clips at either end and needs to be substituted with a new one, bleeding afterwards by means of the rubber bulb (if fitted which if its a 94 I think...

1994 Citroen vsx 1.9TD - nearly managed to do thirty miles in it since purchased but just been up the shop and I am leaking diesel from a split (rubber) pipe leading from the rear low part of the engine to the pump (i think its the pump ) - haven't even had time to buy a manual yet
It looks like its split on a bend on the pipe where it is clipped...

That part provides the top pivot point for the clutch selector. Fair old bit of stress :)

Have you lubricated the caliper slides?
Brake discs always have some degree of run-out in them and the brake calipers have slides so that they will cope with a certain amount of warp. If the slides are sticking it can make a tiny bit of runout feel like the discs are badly warped and need changing when in fact they're within tolerance.

Just changed rear disks and pads on my Xantia. Had to take calipers off to free the inner pads, what a mess. All finished, just need to bleed the brakes.. Front caliper are fine, lots of LHM, no bubles, but I cant seem to get any LHM flowing to the rear calipers.. What am I doing wrong ?? Back end on axel stand front end on ramps..

As far as I know on the Mk1 it's a case of, battery off 10mins then battery on and start engine 4k on the revs for about 10 to 20 mins while driving and the ECU should (but dont quote me) re-set and have re-learnt its' new perameters. It's not going to be much more for the Mk2 I wouldn't think.

That would be the usual push switch in the door pillar. Either in the A-pillar or the B-pillar.
Resetting the fixing screw often clears the problem.

my old nissan micra didn't have them! Fog lights on the front are for your conveniance and allow you to see better, but i do also beleive that if you have them then they have to be working, so in which case mr plod is correct in giving you the ticket.

I'm afraid its going to have to go back virtually to bare metal with chemical stripper- if you leave them and paint over, even in matt black or camouflage, you will always be able to see the shapes!!Just think how obvious even a little bit of badly flatted filler is under shiny paint................

The brake efficiency is unaffected in the dry but the ABS will prevent you locking the wheels in the wet. I cant tell you the answer to the other one for fear of aiding and abbeting!

The ABS warning light is on permanently for almost a year but the braking efficiency doesn't seem to have degraded. However I've never had to test it on the wet! How does one disable it on the dash should one be inclined to do so?
