Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi,
there is a separate circuit for the Activa system that must by depressurised by undoing a nipple-type thing above the Activa sphere in the centre of the rear of the car.

Ive tried (in vain) to change my rear active ram bush today but had to give up because the ram was 'springy' even though I had depressurised the hydraulic system even lifting the car body did not help. what have i done wrong or what havent done? any help would be appreciated.

By post would probably be your cheapest option as the bulbs are usually cheaper, try GSF (this forum) or CPC on the net.

Remove the hose from the pump which comes directly from the reservoir (thus draining the reservoir). While the pipe is off, turn the steering wheel lock to lock a few times to remove any excess in the pipes. Couple pipe back up and fill reservoir (usually needs 2 bottles of fluid). So it was you that bought it! I am on my 4th 2.1 td estate and only the first one had the cover in situ and I agree, it does make quite a bit of difference to the noise level, it also keeps it clean, but its a lot easier to get at without it!

A further chapter in the undergaurd story that comes and goes on here. I finally got a new for my XM off eBay and fitted the same day. It was only a few miles down the road from me.
After a week of driving with it fitted, some observations. First is the remarkable difference to the noise level when idling. The diesel clatter is muffled wonderfully...

on a mk1 xsara without multiplex the CPH unit (which controls alarm,central locking,imobiliser & interior lighting) is located to the n/s of the steering column.its a black box with 2 plugs on it (1 black 1 yellow).what are you planning to do with it because i dont think the can be swapped between cars due to it being coded to the injection ECU...

Filters go by engine size to ensure adequate air supply. If that Green filter looks quite smaller than your Xantia's original - then you know the Xantia will be short breathed.
BTW a diesel dont care about mixture in terms of more/less intake air. It will simply take the needed fuel for any given amount of air.

I say this because I'm putting a lot of Motorway miliage on the Xantia and replacing the air filters fairly frequently(they're getting dirty quickly).

Sounds as though you have an airlock, did you connect the heater hoses up the correct way round? if not, the heater will eventually fill up with air and cause the problem you have. If not, try bleeding the heater by disconnecting the return pipe with the engine running.

I have a 95 xantia, 1.9 TD i've had it for a while now, and have had very little problems with it, until now!
The steering tends to almost lock sometimes when trying to turn a corner, more so with higher revs meaning i need to either drop the clutch or give it a good yank to stop me going into the hedge!

I am no specialist but I would start by priming up the hydraulic circuit.
Did you change LHM oil recently? or did you clean filters? Did you detect any kind of leak? how is the LHM level? How fast does the pressure regulator tick?

Yesterday my activa suspension decided it didn't want to rise.
It just stayed down and would not pump up. the STOP light stays on all the time.
I've moved the height lever about but on the flat the suspension will not budge and the STOP stays on.
BUT HERE IS THE STRANGE BIT
If I park it 2 wheels up a high kerb 10 inches or so, the suspension rises...

I would go for the sealant. Changing the matrix is often a very complicated (ie dashboard out) job. Try using Bars stop leak. It worked great for me.

Converting a diesel to LPG isnt a true conversion, i am pretty sure that the LPG just supplements the Diesel and doesnt replace it at any time, I might be wrong though, but i dont think it would be classed as a lpg vehicle, more of a lpg assisted vehicle

You don't say what's wrong, but are you quite sure it's dead? Can you hear the solenoid clicking? Is the earth strap from the engine OK? Battery terminals nice and tight?
I don't suppose you've tried the old whack-the blunt-end-with-a-lump-of-wood technique? It's surprising how often it works. They get gummed up with dust and stuff, and the shock...

It sounds like your zx has a problem with the engine management system. If the car is running rich then the emissions and fuel to air mix are not correct. I had a similar problem with my 1995 ZX 1.4i about 4 - 5 years ago while on holiday. It turned out to be the manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP sensor).
Im suprised the garage didnt pick...

Just check the rubber coverings on the wiring between door and bodywork. Sounds like a short. There's be a few guys on the site with a broken wire and this problem.

Can anyone tell me where the central locking control unit is located in a 2000 1.6 Xsara.
When I try to lock the car it unlocks immediately. I dont want to mess around pulling switches out of individual doors to test them - I'll just disable the relock function and be done with it.

I always got 30mpg out of ours without the roofbox.
With the roofbox, and a good motorway run at *ahem*mph it would drop to about 26.
I don't know what this guy is doing to get 22mpg, do they use US gallons in Australia?
It would be a shame to go towing a caravan with one though.

you need to find out the readings from the upstream & downstream oxygen sensors when it is on the diagnostic equipment.the upstream sensor readings should constantly fluctuate between approx 100 & 800 mV (when engine warm),it doesent matter what the downstream sensor reads (between 100 & 800 mV though) as long as it stays constant,if the reading...

If you're moving you won't need it. The fans will do nothing useful if the car is running at more than 25 MPH or so.
Why do you think thye are not working - I've not heard mine for a year or so and the gauge shows its never got remotely hot.
If you're stuck in traffic you can always put the heater on after 10 minutes or so if you think its...

I may be wrong but I think the batteries are only for remote c/l and alarm setting whereas the key has some form of chip that is recognised by the ecu for allowing starting.

It is assumed you have removed the axle centernut (35mm or 1 3/8 socket), disassembled the lower swivel joint and eased out the CV joint from the hub.
On the intermediate bearing housing you can see 2 locknuts - on the threaded ends of 2 bolts. These bolts have L-shaped heads and holds the bearing in the bearing housing. Unwind (do not remove) the...

I'm about to change RHS driveshaft on my 1.9D ZX (152K). I've done the left before but I have some questions about the intermediate bearing.
Firstly, does the shaft normally come out ok or is it likely to get stuck. Any advice if it gets stuck?
Secondly, does the inner bearing come out with the shaft. If it does, I expect I will need to pull it...

I usually use two thin screwdrivers (2mm diameter). push the scredrivers on the holes on the left. you will feel a spring being pushed away in each hole. then you can pull the left side of the radio out (about 1cm). The same with the right side. and Voilá!

Hello,
Does anyone know the procedure on how to remove the stereo from a late 2000X xantia?
The stereo is a factory fitted RDS cassette job kept under a flap.It has 4 little holes one in each corner, are these used in the removal or is a specialised key needed?

I have'nt removed a Xantia door yet but loads of BX's.
I'm afraid to say you have to disconnect all the blocks from the door and tread the wires/blocks through the grommet hole in the door

Trying to remove the door as the bottom hinge has been butchered by the previous owners garage!
I am having trouble with the electrical cable from the body to the door. On a 306 I used to own you were able to unscrew a connector block.
How can I disconnect the cable(s)?

Brake hoses available at reasonable cost from GSF (as are coloured bulbs) If they are the same as XM hoses they are very easy to fit.

Well the Xantia has just passed its MOT again with no problems (although the smoke test seemed close to the limits).
Both front brake hoses were noted as being slightly deteriorated.
So I guess it's off to GSF for 2 hoses and a selection of pipe seals so I can do these fairly soon. Any tips or things to look out for when changing these?

The XM is DK5ATE, 2446cc, and the Indenor unit of the 505 is the XD3T 2498cc.

Ok so got the Xantia a couple of weeks ago but the air con compressor was replaced with another one apparently from a 406 HDI (yellow writing), went to the scrappers and took one off a slightly older XM but it was wrong.
Rang a parts dealer and apparently he has one for me for £58.75 inc VAT, but by the way he was on the phone he doesnt seem to...

assuming it's the same fault as you get on the digital matrix display version where it reports bulb failed... do you find the rear lights flash in time with the indicator/hazzards when they are used?
There's a multiplug that connects to the bulb carrier - contacts get weak/drity and you get an earth fault that trips the warning display.

Hi I have a citroen xm 2.0i on a g plate. I have a fault on the break circuit. When i start the car the display shows me the brake light symbols but they go out when i put on the brake and re-appear when i take my foot of the pedal. I have been told it is a lost earth. I disconnected my battery last week and then went to put in the stereo code.Unfortunately,I forgot which button to press after entering the four digits.
I tried them all(big mistake)and now I have nothing but four little lines on the screen.

Although I havn't managed to successfully reprogram one yet, my understanding is this:
Each plip is only a transmitter, and has a unique code number, so it is the receiver in the car that learns the code of the transmitter. Your two original plips would have had different code numbers.

Drivers side brake light is out on my T plate Xantia HDI hatch. On the PASSENGER side there is a wing nut to undo with enough space to turn the nut. On the DRIVERS side which is the side I need to do there does not even appear to be enough space to turn the wingnut! So how do I withdraw the assembly without undoing the wingnut? I am puzzled!!

you can try disarming the internal sensors or pulling a fuse to disable the alarm completely which is what I did I think this is a common fault with xantias. Someone on the board should be able to tell you how to disable the internal sensors as I have forgotten. Or try doing a search of the forum.

Early Xantiae (is that the right term?) are well into banger territory now -even good turbodiesels are not fetching what they are really worth. Twice I have had the same problem. I replaced both units and all was OK. If you take care in removing the instument pod you do not even have to remove the wheel but do drop it down on the adjuster as far as it will go.

My odometer works fine BUT the speedo goes upto 50 and stays there, or if it decides zooms back down again. It never goes above 50.

If it is like my Citroen, then you need a 3/8 ratchet. You insert it in the square hole in the en of the tensioner and pull (or push depending on which side you are). The belt should loosen and you can remove it from the lower pulley so you can release the tensioner and remove the belt.
And as Haynes BOL would say, installation is reverse from...

Looks like an easy job, but it is not :(
There is an automatic tensioner pulley, and it is not clear how to lock it... Haynes mention some special tool which should be inserted in the pulley holes to lock it.
Did anyone seen this tool - what it looks like? Is it possible to to use...
