Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

A slighty blowing exhaust, led me to send my Activa back to the garage (Haa Haa) that had recently done some work on the engine. I was told that the exhaust had split due to a defective engine mounting and they pointed to the big cotton reel bush on the inner wing, saying it had split.

Hi Meeper, if you are intent on doing your own repairs, you will need a good tool kit, with many of the qwerky items peculiar to Citroens. I would suggest that you could tackle the smaller jobs if you are handy with the spanners but would recommend guidance with the spheres and the cambelt, as the spheres are a safety issue and a badly fitted...

not sure it's common to other models, and I expect there's a difference between S1 and S2 models as well.
S1's are fairly easy to remove/replace, 4 screws for the main pod, remove the light and pop it off, easing the claws through the holes as needed - be sure NOT to press on the release lever - if it's still intact, keep it as you'll likely end...

Hi, yet another little niggling problem. The little 'catch' that the glove box lid attaches to in my XM seems to be broken. One of the little claws has broken off, and I've had to push the box lid down and lock it to force it to stay shut.

I have a xantia that had this kind of problem,and i traced it to the relay on the wiper housing ( mine is also an estate )and I ended up shorting out 2 of the terminals on the housing untill I visit a scrapy.
A relay is only a switch and you cannot do to much damage experimenting.From memory I used a bit of 1.5 single core cable to go...

1.9TD. 1995. Standard. Driving me nutty! Just fitted (second)new accumulator sphere but no improvement. Brake force is gone within 1/2 hour of standing. When started it drops within about five seconds, but regains quite quickly. The rest of the spheres have been changed within last few months. Pump ticks 20 seconds. Done citrobics. Any ideas...

There are a number of different types, if it looks the same check the pulley diameter. GSF do them for about £180. but the best place is a scrapyard.

Front and/or Rear Spheres? There's loads on here about it and my struggles to DIY replace the rears. Changing the fronts are easy, the rears can bind a bit, but in essence it's an 'easy' job for the price of a couple of green metal globes and the right tool.

You could do what I did - break one to see how it fits then repair it with superglue.
On the second one, I levered it out longways with a small screwdriver so I suggest you follow this rather than the above.
In other words, the locating bits are on the short sides, not the long sides as you might expect.

If you found all the wires were same colour - how would a diagram help you then
Try surf this site :

Then you should at least go by the wiring guide (with example shown) to know about the wiring system in your Xantia.
Earlier Citroens used a base wire colour with different coloured markers.
The Xantia uses few colours but alphanumeric coding...

If the clutch is heavy and disengages near the floor, I would ask to see the reciept for the new clutch! Applying some lubricant to the clutch operating shaft where it enters the gearbox bellhousing will often make it lighter but if the clutch is fairly new, you should feel it get lighter as you push the pedal down as the diaphragm goes past the...

Assuming they are the same as the BX / Xantia ones, then the trick is to remove the pad securing bolt and pads, then refit the bolt, which will hold the caliper together whilst you take the mounting bolts out. Hi everyone,
Just got an XM 2.0 non turbo 1991 a couple of months back and am in the process of getting some of the problems sorted out.
The oil dip stick handle has already disintegrated and somebody has replaced it with a piece of rubber which is then stuck down the dip stick tube when fitted.Problem here is I am not sure of the correct oil...

I believe you need a hammer and chisel to break the old lock off from the inside of the door. A new lock would be good if you want to close the door again.
I wimped out of doing that to my Xsara so paid the dealer because if their chisel went throught the door skin they have to repair it!

My xantia alternator and air con belts make quite a din. I have tried some drive belt conditioning spray (as used on compressor vee belts) and it does not make a difference. I have also tried talc as suggested by a mechanic. This works for about 3 days then the noise starts against is not a bearing fault.

Hi,
there is a separate circuit for the Activa system that must by depressurised by undoing a nipple-type thing above the Activa sphere in the centre of the rear of the car.

So it was you that bought it! I am on my 4th 2.1 td estate and only the first one had the cover in situ and I agree, it does make quite a bit of difference to the noise level, it also keeps it clean, but its a lot easier to get at without it!

on a mk1 xsara without multiplex the CPH unit (which controls alarm,central locking,imobiliser & interior lighting) is located to the n/s of the steering column.its a black box with 2 plugs on it (1 black 1 yellow).what are you planning to do with it because i dont think the can be swapped between cars due to it being coded to the injection ECU...

Filters go by engine size to ensure adequate air supply. If that Green filter looks quite smaller than your Xantia's original - then you know the Xantia will be short breathed.
BTW a diesel dont care about mixture in terms of more/less intake air. It will simply take the needed fuel for any given amount of air.

Sounds as though you have an airlock, did you connect the heater hoses up the correct way round? if not, the heater will eventually fill up with air and cause the problem you have. If not, try bleeding the heater by disconnecting the return pipe with the engine running.

I am no specialist but I would start by priming up the hydraulic circuit.
Did you change LHM oil recently? or did you clean filters? Did you detect any kind of leak? how is the LHM level? How fast does the pressure regulator tick?

Yesterday my activa suspension decided it didn't want to rise.
It just stayed down and would not pump up. the STOP light stays on all the time.
I've moved the height lever about but on the flat the suspension will not budge and the STOP stays on.
BUT HERE IS THE STRANGE BIT
If I park it 2 wheels up a high kerb 10 inches or so, the suspension rises...

I would go for the sealant. Changing the matrix is often a very complicated (ie dashboard out) job. Try using Bars stop leak. It worked great for me.
