Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have a Kenwood CD/Radio in my Mk2, they also make them for Sony. Do a search on the net, just type in 'Citroen XM radio adaptor' or something similar. It consists of some leads and a box controlling the electronics, that you plug in between the radio and the existing leads.

N/S bonnet catch will not release the hook on my Xantia.
The other O/S catch has released and is in the second safety position.
I can just see the catch above the headlight. I can see the part of the catch round the bonnet hook but it will not move when pushed.
Can the S11 grille be removed without access to the back of it?

The ride is just like a car with no shocks. I have checked the plastic clip and it is in place The linkage seems OK. When Moving the height lever the front moves quickly but the rear is always much slower. both when moving up or down. Any ideas of what to look for next please.

I am not sure about fitting them, I am sure there are some here who can shed light on that, but why not fit a 2nd hand one? Sod paying £300 for one I'll sell you a working one for less than a sixth of that with postage (send me an email)!!! I would think fitting one is not too tricky and would require a wee bit of adjustment.

The evaporator is behind the dashboard, in front of the passenger footwell.
I have a leak on my air-con system and was wondering whether removing the glovebox and its surround would give good enough access to work on evaporator, looks like somebody might be about to find out for me! The glovebox has to be removed from its surround first, I'm told...

It could be something like a shorted winding in your motor causing excessive sparking/arcing between the brushes and commutator. How clean does it look when you take it apart each year? If this is the problem, then the easiest/cheapest option would be a second-hand motor.

Chances are, if the end has indeed broken off, it's sitting in the bottom of the sump. Unlikely to ever be a problem, as it will just sit there. It's unlikely to be in the dipstick tube, as the remaining bit of dipstick would have pushed the bit out into the sump.
If it bothers you that it's in there, then you could have the sump off and recover...

Could be glazing on the shoes and drums, reducing the effect of the handbrake on the rolling road, as you never apply the handbrake when the car is in motion right (unless you like pulling handbrake turns!)?. Try cleaning the shoes and drums with some emery cloth, and then re-adjusting the handbrake. Hope this helps - Alex.

Why would you want to do that? The spec is ATF. If you fill it with a different fluid, you're likely to knacker all the seals.
If you really want to put LHM in your car, then get a GSA/BX/CX/Xantia/XM etc..

If it is anything like my C5 estate, then the answer from Citroen is with difficulty !! I was advised to remove the unit (means taking off the inside door trim) and fighting it once off. They will seperate, I was told. Hope this helps, John.

Most likely, it won't be the same. Also the ECU changed about 1996 onwards for the diesel as well.
It is located just behind the battery, next to the fuse box...the one with the huge cable connector. Unfortunately, the number you need is on the other side of the unit and not easy to read in situ.
Think you can take it off easily enough.

As long as you havn't actually boiled it the head gasket should be OK but having said that, 113 k is getting toward the time when the gasket can go and if you take the timing belt off to do the pump, you are well towards the work required to remove the head. If you do the pump and then have to take it all off again, you wont be best pleased. That...

I am losing a lot of water apparently from below the water pump and it appears I will have to change the pump/belt probably tensioner while its in bits - this may well lead to a skim and head gasket - I have searched the site for some Idiot guides to sort this out but it appears most links are now out of date or disabled - has anyone got any...

For a while my '00 Xantia HDI (145K miles) has suffered from an occasional lack of power under acceleration, eg when applying power after a corner or roundabout. Lift and try again and it would usually be ok.
Recently the problem became more permanent. Interestingly, the engine management light only came on after a sustained period of wide open...

The A/C was the first to stop working but the A/c kicks in but there is no cold air (u notice the load on the engine)
Then the blower stopped working.

If it's anything like the 405 one, it will be a pipe coming out of the bottom of the evaporator housing, and draining through the floor, often at the top of the transmission tunnel . You can tell if it's clear simply by leaving the aircon running with the car parked for 10 minutes. If there's a puddle of water under the car, then it's clear.

The first two I cant help you with, but (3) the rev counter is driven by the top dead centre sensor located on the n/s end of the cylinder head just above the gearbox bellhousing.
(4) Yes you are correct they are the same engine, but the xantia is somewhat heavier than the pug and therefore soaks up vibraion and noise better, it could also be that...

Well im incredibly happy with the Xantia....after the 350 mile trip to cornwall and then back with no problems im very happy with the change over, however its a bit of a step up from the ZX and want to ensure that i keep it topped up properly to avoid any serious problems in the future.

some of the filters fitted were sealed units.if it has a plastic clip around the top, you should be able to replace it.

First job is to test the earth connection. There's not much point in following up the fuse side if it's something as simple as that. Just unhitch the positive terminal (the one that's melted, I'd assume) and run a multimeter from there to a solid grounding point. If you get a resistance reading (ohms), then that's one less thing to think about....

Ensure that the car is on flat ground when checking the level.
The only place where the LHM can go is into the spheres, if the diaphragm ruptures.
Check the spheres for proper 'springiness' front and back with the engine running.
At switch-on, the pressure warning lights should take 13 seconds to go out.

That's only used for holding up the wheel for you while you put the screws in, IMHO.
Never used one of those, as the wheels are self-centering, too.

Dont know on the design of the Xantia wire splitter. But on BX'es it is wellknown that these heavy duty connectors go open circuit because of bad quality in the crimping of the connectors & corrosion.
It is very clear from your diagnosis that you have a similar problem on your Xantia. Follow the problem towards the battery using a heavy Amp bulb...

A strange problem has just started happening on my Xantia 2.1TD. When I start it up first thing in the morning, it revs up to 1600rpm. This then fluctuates between 1400 and 1600rpm untill it gets to the 80'C point on the temperature gauge. It has never done aything like this before. Does anyone know what has causedthis to happen?

It should be on the end behind the n/s front wheel. It is sometimes difficult to differenciate the filler from the end plate bolts, but you should find that one is slightly bigger, at the bottom, toward the front. You will probably have to remove the inner wing cover/splashguard to get to it.

Having just completed the Octopus this afternoon I am left with topping up the gearbox to replace the approx 0.8 litre of gearbox oil I lost when taking the drive shaft out.
The Haynes picture is wrong for the gearbox and the supplement does not show an alternative.

Hi Stuart, I have same problem with my ZX. I've found if I close the door hard and at the same time aim the key fob I usually ge a result, points to something dodgy in the door locking system and NOT your key fob!!

Does it have a fuel primer pump? if it does and its of the diaphragm type they can leak, If not that does it have a fuel heater? you will find it bolted to the n/s end of the cylinder head (follow the pipe from the pump) these go porous, just disconnect the pipes and join them together.

The easiest way to do it is to put your hand in front of the headlight lens to see which part the LH dip is shining through and then cover it with sticky tape. (no, not your hand!)
