Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

if you cant make the clutch slip,i would say try adjusting it,or fit a new cable if your feeling brave!

Not quite gone yet! I've been offered for next to nothing a colleagues 1.8 Xantia, with a whopping 180K on the clock. It'll do as a stop-gap after the sudden death of my 1.9TD until I find something proper.
Anyway, my only worry with this car when I examine it tomorrow is the clutch. The bite point is close to the floor, and the pedal is low down...

you know what manufacturers are like.they always say.fewer moving parts,so no adjustments needed etc etc.
its just abit harder to diagnose faults and more expensive for the parts for us hard working guys

If the timing is to far out, it either will be difficult to start and smoke when it does (retarded) or it will knock like the clappers (advanced) If it doesn't do any of these its probably not far out. If you can reset it to the factory setting it should be OK. The timing does not have a tremendous affect on the fuel consumption unless its a long...

My Xantia 1.9D is very heavy on diesel about 35mpg. I havedone loads of work, cylinder head etc etc. I have moved the pump timing and I have heard this can cause economy problems. It is the Lucas pump. Without shelling any money out on my free car! if I simply advance it till just before it knocks then should this be approx OK. It might run hotter...

Assuming its of normal master and slave cylinder designthen your problems sound like air in the system. The old curse used to be leaking slave cylinders (much more rapid than brake cylinders as the things travel miles further) but these usually bled themselves through the leaky seals and would go on for a long time being a bit messy. The give away...

theres not much to go wrong ignition wise.
all youve got is four plugs and a coil rail.
obvious things first: correct spark plugs fitted,correct fuel filler cap.
make sure all fuel pipes are ok,havent been crushed or jacked up on!

Hi, I have been looking at a low mileage 1.8i, 16V which has a problem at high RPM. The engine starts and pulls well at low revs but at high speed goes sick and starts to splutter, then picks up and runs fine for a while.
Am I looking for a fuel starvation problem or an ignition problem? Car seems to drive OK otherwise and has done less than 60K...

Hi a hewitt, if your car has done about 100k plus miles, I bet that the plastic connector elbow that links the inlet and outlet hoses to the heater matrix is fractured.
With the car running, wiggle the connector about and you will see a leak on the right hand side. Be careful if the coolant is hot as this wiggling may prove terminal for the...

STOP together with (!) generally means a hydraulic pressure problem.
Whats the LHM level like ? Is the car rising Ok ? Does the light come on if you push the brakes and steer, or steer while the car is rising, for instance ?
On my XM, both of those were always on at startup, however they would flicker and gradually go out as the car lifted....

I have a P reg Xantia 1.9TD and recently the stop and (!) light have been coming on together. It gives the helpful advice in the manual that I stop immediately and call a citroen dealer.
It looks to me (and given that it's a citroen) like an electrical problem.

My best guess is that though the cambelt is still there, the tensioner pulley has probably failed, causing the belt to lose tension and jump about on its teeth, throwing the diesel pump timing right out, and the valves to clatter on top of the pistons- thats the ticking noise, very metallic.
You probably didn't do it any favours by carrying...

Sorry I have no idea if expanding foam is a normal feature on a berlingo, but if it helps I have yet to see it on any cars I have owned.. though the idea of the previous owner wandering round your car idly filling holes with foam after a manic, touch up paint sesh did make me laugh

I have a Xsara 2.0 HDI Estate 2000 which intermitantly looses power. When 2100 revs are reached when accelerating it feels as if the car is holding back whatever gear you are in....fuel starvation?? If you then release the pedal then depress it again it accelerates as normal. As I said it happens intermitantly, sometimes not for a number of days...

Its a gorgeous car. Both Autoexpress and the Daily Telegraph say it rides like nothing else on the road. You aren't going to be cornering like a BMW M5, but I imagine you could drive all day and be stress free (rather like driving any hydropneumatic Cit )

if you have any concern about the spheres GSF have suplied just phone them up and ask them,as they have a lot of knoledge on this subject,the main diferantses are whether you have a standerd system or activ/activa,and on the rear as above and if its an eastate or saloon

Having just had a nightmare fitting new front spheres I read a thread that points out the mistakes suppliers make in selling you the wrong speheres for your make and model.
The box that my new spheres came in (from GSF) says Citroen 2.0i yet the sales receipt says 1.9td as well as several other makes.

drop links should not afect the ride quality,you will just have constant kloncking as the worn out ball joints move in there sockets,and you probably wont achivethe same ride as you will get in a GS/CX because these models had top and bottom susp/arm on the front and bearings in all of the arms,not like XANTS with a strut and one lower arm which...

im sure they will br simaler to BXs rears come out in behind the rear lamp units, fronts go down inside the A pilers and you gain access to them from in the car behind the trim panel beside front foot wells,once you have found all 4 open roof fully,close sun blind,and with an air line blow up the drain tubes which will unblock the drain holles in...

I think they work by measuring the conductivity of the oil, lots of short runs will get the oil dirtier than long ones, so it might get to the service point quicker than just looking at mileage, my wifes ZX only does 3000 per year but still needs its oil/filter changing twice as it works its oil very hard.

Hello everyone,
My Xsara year 04 has a problem with it's servicing trip milleage indicator which does not decrease at the same pace with the trip milleage indicator.
Thus it indicates me on the dash board that the car has to go through a servicing when I have 4000 km more to run before going to the servicing!
Does anyone have an idea about that.

Firstly is it Petrol or Diesel???
Slow to rise could be a tired pump, the steering heavy could be low fluid
The digital display will probably have a bulb out inside the unit. You'll need to dismantale the Dash, and remove the display unit and replace the bulbs. Same type as Dash board bulbs.
Behind the headlights under the bonnet there are RELAY...

Its quite likely to be a damaged handbrake cable, these work on the front wheels and are bent when the steering is turned, the outer cable can snap and cause the brake to become ineffective, whip the front wheels off and look at the cables, the are quite easy to replace and not expensive.

Front spheres are NOT considered a problem ?
It's the rear ones that makes you swear ...

Drilling holes in the sphere to fit a handle is the most extreme solution I've heard yet.

If its overheating when you are traveling at a reasonable speed the fans make little difference, the most likely problem is a partially blocked/furred up radiator.

I believe the ZX still have the BX style laylout of the fuse/junction box. Then it would be the rightmost/leftmost relays for front/rear window winders.
It would be standard 30Amp relays with a single make contact.

Did my offside bushes (front and rear P one) today.. no real problems, as I had someone with the kit pressed them off and on, but the tie rod nut was a bitch to remove and I noticed the roll bar bush was a bit kippered too ! Is it reasonable to expect that if the lower arm bushes need replacement, then the roll bar bush and tie rod are not far...

TIL 38 will do well.
Til 100 is the standard high output emitter. Gives more range
CQW13 from Farnell is a monster in its own lensed case. More directional but will open the car from an adjoining planet. Note that the part is directional and use a magnifying glass to have a good look before replacing it.

NO NO NO!!!!!! NO HYLOMAR!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing at all,only a thin smear of LHM- just make sure the threads are clean and spin it on hand tight only-like an oil-filter
You shouldn't need to bleed anything, just start the motor and do up the pressure release valve. It'll probably be a bit slow to initially rise but after that it'll be o.k.

Was turning right when there was a loud noise, steering jerked so naturally I stopped asap. Gearbox oil pouring on the road from left of centre. Could driveshaft have popped out or what, quite dramatic?

It would probably help if you measured the fuel consumption. It is measured in MPG not miles per £ as this depends on the cost of the fuel. The 2.1 does seem to use more than the 2.5 and with an auto box does not return better than 38 mpg in all round driving. If you were to drive around very gently in a very well serviced car then you may top 40...

No, I dont think adjusting will help, you need a new clutch. Having said that, the clutch in my XM was slipping like that for about 20k miles, providing you dont let it slip by backing off when it starts, it could last a lot longer.
