Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hello,
This is a good'un - when I lift off the go-go pedal the rev counter drops to zero, only to spring back into life the instant I touch the pedal again. Not a big problem but a little irritating - any ideas?

Could be the pickup sensor is playing up. You may be able to take it off and give it a clean with some carb cleaner/switch contact cleaner. Or if you are a fussy (like my dad :roll: ) buy a new one. Hope this helps - Alex.

it only a pole sensor incased in plastic so there is not much to clean,apart from the pins in the plug conector

I guess I understand your concern - the automatic choke is on for too long. IMHO this can be fixed by new thermostatic capsule... which, I believe, is nonexistent as a spare part...
But, on the bright side - you live in Italy where the Weber carbs were produced, therefore you may have access to the parts unavailable...

Ok just got home and tried to check the colour of the lhm fluid, sadly my finger isnt long enough, yes i realize my problem in life now.

Well used a clean screwdriver and put the contents on to some tissue, its yellow, now originally its supposed to be green and brown means time to change, so does that mean yellow is half way there???

I'd agree that I couldn't guarantee the history of the LHM in question, but the cars in question had been serviced and stamped by main dealers and Citroen specialists, and had owners who seemed to understand what LHM was, so I...

I'd try running the cable through the centre console and remove one of the trays under the front seats to put the changer in the same position as the factory fitted one.

The needle on my revcounter (Xsara HDI) has gone round the clock and rests about a centimetre below the pin with the engine off. When the engine is running the needle is resting underneath the pin, does anybody know a quick fix?

There is no quick fix I'm afraid.

It's the instrument out of it's cluster and then trembling carefully helping the needle over to the correct side of the pin. A complete weekends DIY job at least including all dismantling and reassembly.
As labour hours must be paid for at any garage it would be quite a repair bill.

I'm using my CX GTI turbo2 more than ever, and with the winter season coming, I was thinking of changing my TRX tires and wheels for 'normal' alloy wheels with winter tires mounted. It seems that some wheels do fit on the CX. You can find some information for example in

As a service who are considering the same: the site Bernie refers to gives the following matching types:
ALFA ROMEO 3.0 V6
ALFA ROMEO 156 97-
ALFA ROMEO 164 5 bolt 88-
ALFA ROMEO GTV 95-

Other types will result in a disappointment (as I experienced). The offset of the Evasion wheels is almost 2 cm too small.

Try lubricating the runs that the roof slides over, if you can get at them with the roof tilted, or partially opened.
Whats more likely though, is that the cable is slipping. This is common on XM's, I didn't know Xantias were prone to it too.

The Glass removal is easy, Tilt the sunroof up, then you will see some Torx headed screws, those are the ones holding the glass sunroof in place. Before you undo them, mark around the framework so you know where to put the sunroof back when refitting.

Hi everyone,

I have a 93 Xantia and the fuel gauge is always on zero (the orange light is on), however every few days or so, the gauge shows the correct fuel level for few minutes...

It looks like the most common problem is the gauge sender, however I think (and hope) if it was the problem, it shouldn't send the correct level only every few...

Hi Folks,

First,thanks for bringing back much needed forum,secondly can anyone
help me identify which dashboard bulbs to purchase from the likes of GSF.
My bulb for the ABS doesn't appear to be working(never has since I had the car) and because I dont want to dismantle the whole dashboard just to find out which is the correct bulb to fit just...

Spot on with the removal I would do the accumulator as well as It's not very expensive £18 from GSF. Also do some Citerobics when completed to get rid of all the air, also have some kitchen roll ready for leaking lhm from the sphere's. As for the pulsing it's more likley to be the front disk's being warped which is common on Xantias so I would...

My Xantia has developed a habit in the last week of idling too fast while hot sometimes. After a normal drive that brings up the engine to normal running temperature I notice that when I stop the idle sometimes wanders up to 1200rpm or so and hovers around a bit then returns to the normal level. I get this every so often. In my case, it is the crankcase fumes from breather at top of engine, running down pipes and fouling STEPPER motor. I just remove stepper motor, and clean it out with carb cleaner, and the cavity that it sits in. I also remove potentiometer and clean that out too. Also clean out all the pipes. Simon, have regassed all spheres, including the hydractive ones. Haven't done much since change of new battery. Still have intermittent bouts of hard and soft suspension. Have always ride with hydractive off. Yesterday, went for a hilly drive, set the hydractive on, took some hard cornering. Today seems the drive is quite soft and stayed soft....

Are all BX doseurs the same? I think mine needs overhauling as the brakes are poor and I have a spare from my 87 GTI (non ABS) will it fit my 93 TZD with ABS?

Hi guys, just getting used to the new web page colours :D I've got a problem with my plip. (two button infra red). It only works when it's removed from the plip casing. I wouldn't go spending any potential compensation based on that myself as in my opinion, that would have a greater chance of chopping out a main bearing than a big end if it was going to do any damage.
I haven't followed your big end failure, but that is usually caused by oil starvation so a greater possibility may be that they may have drained...

XUD engines come in 3 sizes: 1769cc, 1905cc and 2100cc, badged as 1.7, 1.9 and 2.1 (not sure of the exact number for the 2.1!). 1.7 and 1.9 were both made with and without turbos, 2.1 is turbo only, and has a 12 valve head. 1.7 and 1.9 turbos both make around 90HP, depending on installation - there was no increase in max power for the larger...

You will probably find any that you look at are knocking at the back - new rear subframe mounts will cure this. Avoid any that are creaking at the back, or have negative camber on the rear wheels, in this case, the rear arm bearings are shot, and they're considerably more difficult to change than BX ones. On trying to remove the rear arm on the Xantia, I stumbled on a problem - The circlip that holds the rear arm to the suspension link rod (the lever that goes into the hydro unit) has snapped off (somebody been fiddling before me thinks) leaving a fair bit inside. The result is that I cant seperate the rear arm from the suspension link rod. Do you...

It isn't really going to make any difference at all is it! - After all how often do you hear of an engine siezing from any cause at all or wearing out either. You like the look of the Purflux and think its the best but has anyone done a comparative test to destruction using the other filters? Even if they had and the Purflux came top the others...

Check any dampers you've got for stiffness, and check your cable too. The pedal pivots are rather well greased at the factory (at least mine were) so I'm not convinced that will be cause. The other things that can cause stiffness are a dry or frayed cable, or a worn cable outer liner, the cable outer has a plastic liner in it, these tend to get a...

Depends on when in 1997 your ZX came to life. In the January tables they were listed as not having EGR/cats but by August, they did have them fitted.

Hi kc,

According to the wiring diagram i have, the pump is connected to pins 3 + 5 and the gauge to pins 1 +2 . the warning light (if fitted) is connected to pin 4.

Get one - preferably from '93 or newer. A TD12 (2.1 Diesel) for the most frugal large car ever, a 2.5 TD if you dont like changing gear that often and like blowing away BMW's and Mercs in top gear, a V6 if you just love power and can afford the fuel bill.

Hi all
thanks for invaluable help with replacing rear spheres, suspension is now great at the back, but now front appears hard at drivers side, passenger side appears fine. Is this a case of replacing front sphere at top of strut? If so is it a hard job?Spheres at front were replaced 20 K ago, would this be normal lifespan?

Just on one side? even at the usual bounce test?
If so, yes, it needs to be replaced/refilled, but remember to always replace/refill them in pairs (left front/right front, in this case).

You forgot to say what car you have, but the Xantia's I've had were prone to loose boot latches - just a fraction, but enough so there's a few mm play in the boot which becomes more obvious over bumps. Adjusting the latch bolts so it closes tighter fixes it.

If your ZX springs have failed the ride height will give it away. - ie the car will have dropped - so checking the ride height will show if this is your problem.
Its unlikely but possible the the struts have seized - can you compress the front suspension by pushing down ofn the corner of the car? ZX's will normally cope extremely well with all...

The filler/level plug is on the end of the gearbox. A big bolt at about 5 o'clock (imagine a clockface). The drain plug is at the back, underneath. On early boxes (BE1) there's two drain plugs, one for box, the other for the diff. Later boxes only have the one, maybe with a allen key hole in it.

I can only speak about my own experience and that was bad...eventually leading to a head gasket failure due to the Radweld 'gumming up' things it maybe ought not to. Don't know of anything else though. They all seem to work the same way ie block anything that moves or leaks. As a temp fix you could always try bypassing the heater for the...

Im suprised that you had to rebuild your engine, the tu engine is usually a strong engine. What was the orginal problem. In terms of fuel consumption i only used to get about 30 mpg out of my 95 zx 1.4i around town, this would creep up to 45 mpg on a run. I would put some more miles on the engine as it will be tight after the rebuild im assuming...

Does the alarm have a separate siren ?
As I understand it the misery screems out by the standard horns
- and these are most likely located inside the LHS front wing - usually accessible by removing the wheel arch plastic splash screen.

Technically your car should fail its MOT, since ABS is fitted and the lamp sequence will not be correct. It will be difficult to remove all traces of ABS easily.
Insurance will also be invalid, altho they will probably be obliged to provide RTA cover in the event of an accident. However they could get you for failing to declare the modification...

I was cleaning the zx and i opened the drivers door and the locking started to click i rememberd what i had seen on here and just pulled the rubber boot that the door wires go throuh and yep the central locking clicked away like a good un so job for tomorrow.
Have any of you fitted the alarms sold on ebay around £50 with central locking and auto...

The only time I hear my fans working on my 2.1 is when the aircon is on or in very hot weather when I'm going up hill with the caravan on the back. When they're full on, they are very noisy. My info is that first stage is at 92C and full speed is at 97C.

Cheapo fix first-the lens is probably just dirty, just get a CD player cleaning kit and use that,or, if you can see the lens, a cotton bud and alcohol, if you haven't already done so.
