Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Can someone help with a small concern?Is it o.k to remove my ABS ecu
and then still drive the car until I'm able to renew the ecu. It appears the ecu is 'dead' an needs replacing.It appears to be the original 'ATE' version which I believe were renowned for their problems.

I've just replaced the rear silencer box on my 1994 zx 1.9D hatchback. The one that came off was oval in section. The replacement that I got from my local parts dealer is circular in section - their catalogue showed no alternative. It seems to fit OK but with reduced clearance between the silencer and the floor. Typical. I was runing late for work this afternoon and I jumped into the car and went through the usual startup proceedure AND for the first time ever she let me down :( The engine was turning, some smoke was coming out of the exhaust but she would not bite. Hi again mates, my zx 1.4 motronic has a little problem in the ignition. With the light sun on the car at 30 celsius degrees the car can't start, i hear nothing and then i swith the key off and then ignition and the car starts with no problem, what can be wrong here?

my xantia wagon (auto) failed to start after stopped for petrol. when a cable is linked from the battery '+' terminal to the starter directly and with the ignition key at on , the starter turns and the engine fires up. what could be the problem? I was told that it could be either a faulty ignition switch, a faulty starter relay or the gear...

I'm trying to restore what was a nice BX Tri Estate but have a couple of things that have me tossed.
When the grille was removed, there were two brown wires that had been cut at about the central point of the area behind the grille.
The car is air conditioned and this works well and the both fans seem to operate OK. Relays for the fans are there...

You can simply unscrew the cap on the front end of the valve and install a new O-ring. Unfortunately, this way is the unofficial way, officially the valve is not repairable and needs to be replaced by a new one. In the Citroën microfiches you won't find the O-ring needed to repair it, although there is an original Cit O-ring that exactly fits. I...

How do I check the automatic transmission fluid level in a 2001 2.0 petrol C5? The cars making rough changes with a delay in initially engauging gears. It feels like the auto may be low. I checked the handbook and there was only quantities but no location of the dipstick.

Can you buy a repair manual for the C5?

the gearbox ECU works out how much oil gets used & it will tell you if the level is low by illuminating the snow & sport warning lights together (also acts as other fault warnings).you should never need to check the level unless there has been a leak.

Hi all,
My Xantia 110 occasionally has a loud metallic hammering noise coming from the fuel filter Housing on the engine.
I think the noise it is related to the lift pump in the tank as it has the same pulse frequency and stops when it does.
Has anyone any ideas on cause or cure as its getting worse?

I've had quite a few minor electrical problems on my XM that has of yet remained unsolved, however, this is a pretty serious one.

Sometimes when I switch my headlights on, the sidelights will be okay, the main beam would be ok, but standard headlights won't.

Is it worth checking the fuses? I'm not knowledgable about car electrics so I thought...

Just take them all out (one at a time) and check the condition of the blades. They are about 1. 1/4 square (35mm?) and usually have 5 connecting blades. They tend to suffer from corrosion due to their location so on replacement smear some grease on the blades.

changed the oil and filter this weekend. My pack of copper washers from GSF were too small (lloke like they may fitted a BX) -l what is the corrrect size diameter washer?

Fortunately I fished out the old one from the Oil tub/tray!

I have had to replace a few hoses on the BX today ](*,) . Filled back up with water but can't seem to find the bleed screws on the system with the exception of the one on the top of the thermostat housing. Does anyone know if there are any more.

The thermostat is the villian of the peace here, because its closed when the engine is cold, it is very difficult to get all the air out of the head and if you dont, you could end up with it cracked. my 405 TD does this too. Moderate resonance at 1900 rpm and then a really bad one at about 3050-3100 rpm. I have found that it is just a rubbish exhaust pipe. There are no holes or splits in the pipe, it just resonates. A friend with a similar 1.9TD 405 has no problems at all, and the exhausts are almost identical.

Problem solved, exhaust noise really loud by now, so taken to local Cit dealer in Banbury who diagnosed the problem straight away. Apparently very common on Berlingos it's due to the lid on the air filter box not sealing, they have put 2 spring steel clips on the front of the air box tightening the joining at the front hinged side...it's cured!...

What I ment to say was my Heater/Blower has stopped working and I suspect the Control Switch.

If the blower isn't working it is probably the heater motor resistor that has gone... costs a tenner and is located behind...

The fan CAN appear to fail completely when the resistor goes. I've had it happen.

The resistor is relatively easy to get at (it must be, I've done it! :oops: ). I also removed the blower and tested it with a battery charger. This confirmed that the blower wasn't knackered, but didn't show that it was stiff. It was finally replaced the following...

The tacho decided to stop working just after I sprayed some light oil onto the back of the engine to help ease the stiff gearchange linkages (the car's been stood for years apparently).

Gearchange now works smoothly, but the tacho's started cutting out at around 2,500rpm and won't work again until switched off for 5 minutes or so.

Excellent stuff! Thanks blokes ............. jacked her up and settled on the stands and slid underneath and sure enough, there, in full view, was the sender bolted up behind the flywheel. Took it off, cleaned it and it's horribly corroded connector plug up, packed the plug body with vaseline and reassembled. Bingo! Fixed tacho........

Hi, I currently have two Citroens the first a BX16 TRS f reg which the engine cuts out and restart while driving :? have been advised it could be either the distributor or the carburetter :?: has anyone experienced this and could give some advise.

The BX had the simple setup with droplinks directly connecting the ARB to the lower triangle control arm.
AFAIR the BX ARB's are rather heavy compared to the weight of the BX - because of this setup.

As some of you may know, I've had some teething electrical problems on my XM. Looking at the space behind the left hand (if youre sitting in the car, your left then) headlamp cluster, near the auxiliary fuse box, there's a wire. It looks like twin wires bound together, one of which is green. It ends in a black plastic connector and the connector...

My BX's clutch cable failed last weekend and me and SHMO set about replacing it. What an absolute 'child born out of wedlock'!!! Being a TZD there's little space or indeed visibility at the rear of the 'lump' and the access up under the dash around the pedal box was best described as 'interesting' - although we used some words that carried far...

Anyone know of an online wiring schematic for a Citroen zx 2.0i 16v on a 94/95 plate?
Ive got an engine out of one with loom and ecu but need to splice into the loom, sadly none of the wires are numbered
The wires I need to know are :

3 blue wires going into a 2 pin plug under the fuse box ijn engine bay

the 15 or 16 wires on the round multiplug...

I'm considering buying an after market GPS System. My C5 has a heat reflective windscreen. Will this affect reception from the sattelites? Is an external aerial the answer?
What unit would you all go for or avoid?
I'm mainly interested in UK but make the occasional trip to France where street level mapping would be ideal.

if you look at either side of the rear view mirror you will see that there are two small rectangular bits glass that are a slightly different colour,these parts are not athermal & are ideal for mounting GPS & mobile phone car kit aeriels etc.

It consists of metal prongs covered in a green ceramic like substance with a plastic connection for a wiring plug at one end.

Has anyone else changed the rear flexible rubber brake hoses on a zx ? Are they a total pig ? I dont think I can get the spring clip from the top of the hose without dropping the whole rear axle which I don;t want to do - any ideas ? Is there a spring clip removal tool that would do the job - as they are seriously heavy duty clips !

does anyone have the sizes/dimensions for brake hoses - copper ones - as guess what, citroen don't stock them and just have them made up at a local brake factors. I then went to the brake factors and they said that they just sell pipe and someone else shapes it - hey ho !

That would be standard fuel hosing for injection systems (to withstand slight pressure). Gauge the old hosing for the correct inner diameter of replacement hosing.
Those strange clips are machine fitted hose clamps - to be replaced by the good old service type matching the fuel hose diameter and your screwdriver ....

Couldn't get that sensor off, seems as if the screws holding it on dont have cavities for a bit to fit, even tried security torx with the hole in center (as far as I can see, with a torch from bottom or even witth the aid of a mirror). have already removed the pot. checked it with a meter and it reads smooth rise and decent when...

As you do. Just checking front brake hoses flagged as advisories on last MOT (nothing seems wrong.....) when I noticed the state of the aux belt. Borrowed time sprang to mind! I knew it should have been changed but hadn't got round to it. So that was my afternoon sorted. Fairly straightforward apart from this.

My Xantia 1.9 turboD has an ECU to control timing advance on my pump.
There is also a throttle position sensor.

But, I've suspected for some time that all is not well and my car isn't pulling like it should.

So, I've just purchased a replacement pump off ebay.

My Xantia is a 1997 P. The pump is off a 1993 L so has the mechanical timing...

If your Xantia is one without the keypad (i.e. the plipper releases the immobiliser) then the answer is no, you can't programme it yourself. Citroen will charge you about £65 and you will need to take all your keys/plippers with you when they do the job.

So now, when I switch off the engine and get out of the car, the rear end rises up before sinking down agiain as it should. Also sometimes get a ratcheting noise as the ignition is switched off. I'm pretty sure it's hydraulic related as it only does it if the sytem has been pressurised and not if it's been standing for a while. It's had new anti...

Ok, today I got the car jacked up and the wheels off, and got a good proper inspection of the wheel arches, instead of just the casual poke I'd had before.

I touched the rubber on the underside of the passenger side strut top.... and horror.... got the dreaded crunchy sound :o

Here's an odd situation with the CX that I can't work out.

The PR ticks at about 30 second intervals, and all the hydraulics seem to work almost perfectly. However:

If you try the sit-in-the-boot test after turning the engine off, it refuses to move. The back end drops about 8-10 when I sit in the boot, but then just stays there regardless of...

The problem was, in the original thread the full size image had been linked. probably because the old software needed quotes around URLs so the thumbnail for forum link on imageshack wouldn't work. Now it does and it was a simple bit of detective work to figure out the url for the thumbnail view.
