Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Can anyone tell me if the changeout of the Xantia Hdi low pressure fuel pump and sender unit in the tank is a DIY proposition at all. My one has started to make a noise fairly regularly now and I think it might be wise to change it before too long. However my local garage has quoted me around £270 parts and labour which is a bit dear for me at...

I was supplied with an auxillary belt for my BX TD that was one groove narrower than the one it replaced. Horrible noisy thing - must replace it soon as its probably slipping slightly.

I just mention this as belts are defined by their length and grooves and it may be posible that you had the wrong one fitted. This may also have contributed to its...

Evening to all. Im looking for the valve clearance both int and exh for a 1769cc Diesel Turbo Bx power unit. As im in the middle of a HG change I thought that I might as well do the tappets at the same time (as the head has been skimmed and hot pressure tested I have to do them anyway). I have a pair of Impex roof bars for my old Citroen BX. They are not the locking type and you need a 14mm spanner to fit them.

I advertised them on eBay and nobody wanted them.

I am looking at buying a black Mk1 Citroen XM, it has full black leather interior, been converted to a 5 speed manual, just flew through its MOT today aswell.

Two problems.....

As mention in the wanted section.... The gear box is a bit dodgy, but i've got a guy to completely recon it for £150.

The second problem is, the guy who owns it just...

i would say that the hub shape and fixings would be the same between 306 and zx but depending on engines,models and spec they would be different,where the driveshaft fits in flange diffrent size splines,geometry angles will change between cars as well,i think its a case of suck it and see :?: gearbox would probbably fit but gear ratios would...

Mother has just informed me that the doors wont open using the remote fob. When i had the car Wilkobob fitted a 'remote central locking' kit into the door pillar wires so i could open the door from far back instead of struggling with the crappy fob against the windows for the car to open.

Has this car got a body control computer? If so mysterious electrical faults can be computer problems.

Briefly every component on the circuit is powered by a ring main and has an actuator. A code is sent to the actuator which then tells the device what to do. No recognisable code - no function!

Don't think the operating system is a Microsoft...

The gearbox of my 2001 C5 2.0i Petrol has been acting strangely. Sometimes, when stopping at traffic light, the car would not move even though I have released the brake and the gear indicator is on D. Upon pressing the accelerator, the car would jerk once before moving. Anyone encounters similar problem? Help appreciated.

According to the 1995 Xantia owner's manual, the heater blower would have a fuse F20 of 30 Amps and green in the under dash fuse box.

The cooling fan fuses are as stated by pugxpert, or outside the fuse box, mounted on the inside of the wing, as they are on mine, and in the photo, under covers inside the red square.

I am trying to change the filter on my xsara 1.9td R reg. Thought it would be straightforward but the new filter from GSF is completely different from the old one. Old one is a delphi with filter itself in a black plastic container (one piece), whereas the new one is a purflux c422, a metal top and paper filter. The purflux will not fit. The guy...

Yep, it would be spillage. Also, if you didn't clamp off the overflow pipe at the top of the expansion tank, that would have been leaking too.
As long as you followed all the tips posted on here (using a header tank, squeezing top hose to expel any air) you should be sorted.

Hi guys my 98 xantia has sprung a leak on the power steering pipe,Its the one right at the bottom of the radiator it comes from the pump into a rubber flexi pipe about 14 long, its broke right at the end of the flexi it looks like a brake pipe type of thing but the head on its round so i'm not sure if it will turn out with a socket or if its...

Hi all.
Anyone had any experience or ideas about a 'clonking sound' that seems to be coming from the back of a C5 when going over bumps?
The sound seems to be coming from the right rear of the car.

I know that diagnosing a sound is almost impossible, but any help would be appreciated.

Possibly rear seat backrest catches. Try it with seat folded. Catches can rattle if faulty. If the vehicle is still under Citroen warranty, it might be worth trying for a claim. Catches probably about £20-£25 each (see pr-net if you have access!).

Hello. I have an 8 mile journey to work. The last mile is fast dual carriageway, uphill to start and then a long down hill bit.

I got to the top of the uphill section in 4th gear and went to change to 5th. As soon as it was out of gear the engine cut out. I put it into 5th and rolled down the hill and the engine restarted.

The engine ran fine...

Decided to by some osram Silver Star the other day and fitted them today, whilst seeing what the beam was like with engine running and full beams on, i turned off the engine with the key, engine still continued to turn even with the key out! admittedly the stop light was dimmer, felt very strange, stopped the engine by turning off the...

I have found that WD40 acts as a degreaser and dries out fairly quickly, leaving you with a worse situation than you had before! :roll:

I think spraying with grease, or silicone spray is a better idea.. :) My personal preferance is silicone, gease tends to attract dirt and dust, that can lead to things jamming up long term.. :(

Hi, Sorted out where the lake was coming from in the footwell of my car it was the bond between the scuttle panel and windsreen had gone..THANK GOD IT WAS NOT THE MATRIX !!!

I was adding to my story above as you were writing.
You can bridge the middle relay for now between pins 3 and 4, and maybe get another relay later for summer, if the high speed is required, something I've never had, even by 37ºC heat.
If everything is normal, both fans should work at the low speed with a bridge between 3 and 4 of the middle...

I have just bought a stanadyne fuel heater, which I hope to fit in my 96 xantia turbo-diesel. Can anyone tell me the eaiest way to connect to the 12v electrics. I have found that the thinner of the two wires connected to the coil is live only when the engine is running. So this is the wire I should connect to the fuel heater relay. Hope this is of some help to someone doing a similar job in the future.

Anybody have any ideas about this little glitch? The problem seems to occur when hitting the throttle following braking, but only at low speed, for example when braking to make a turn at a junction, I brake to a suitable speed then when I press the accellerator pedal nothing happens for probably half a second then the power comes in with a bang.

Hi Stempy,
I'd look towards the switch on the brake pedal possibly having a delayed release (stiffening mechanism) causing confusion for the ECU.

Second option would be the throttle position sensor, check the resistance using an analogue OHM meter to see that the needle moves smoothly through the sensors range without 'spikes'.

Hi all,
I need to change the front disks and pads on my Berlingo. Am I correct in assuming the bolts holding the callipers are torx T55, I have seen this size mentioned on previous threads for a Xantia are they the same for a Berlingo and do I need to wind the calliper pots back in if so which way?

Hi, does anyone have experience of changing xantia o/s driveshafts? I have my xantia in bits at the moment but havnt managed to pull the driveshaft out as the intermediate bearing seems to be stuck in its housing. Has anyone had this problem before? ive tried hitting it on the msall flange just inbourd of the bearing but it doesnt want to know....

I stumbled across a 'modification' while I was browsing another forum and it said that on the HDi engine, the fuel injection pump has 2 pistons that work at low revs and a third which comes in to play as rev's rise, apparently if you unplug an orange connector from the top of the fuel injection pump then this 3rd piston is enabled at low revs and...

i would say you are definetly making it worse at low engine rpm as by disconnecting it the 2 pistons in hp pump will will be working overtime,plug it back in asap :wink:

My ZX TD has for the last year or so not been starting very well, hunting for the first couple of seconds then sounding like its on 3cylinders for about 30seconds and pumping out loads of grey smoke, but with the colder weather recently this has been much worse.

I changed my front spheres at the weekend no problem. Moved onto the rears - suspension on high, clamped the tool on and tried to turn one of the spheres a bit before depressurising. The sphere turned all right - but so did whatever it is screwed into (ie the hydraulic pipework rotated with the sphere, and no, I wasn't undoing the anti sink sphere...

Family in the boot is the tried and tested :) back end up on ramps, any height setting apart from the lowest really you need weight in there to prevent the susp cylinder from turning or you will be down the dealer buying pipes, once the spheres have cracked you need to lower the car onto its stops then its simply a matter of unscrewing the old...

Low pressure fuel pump. Failure usually 60 - 80k miles, sudden cut out without warning, no fault codes. GSF do them - and I think they do just the pump part now as well. Hi all,

New member here. Problem is this..

My remote died and a year and a half later i have bought one from ebay.

Can any one tell me how to program it? I hope that it does not need the car door locking or unlocking using the key as the door lock has seized. Simple? I think not.

Car is a ZX 94 td Aura.

I think the ZX ones are the same as the BX ones, and they can be re-programmed to suit different receivers. However, you need a soldering iron, and need to be handy with it! I think the code is decided by which of the pins on the IC are grounded, and the recevier and plip need to match. There was a set of instructions floating around on the web a...

Haynes now have a Hdi workshop manual for te Xantia . I have one and its usual middling quality. As a backup I have the Peter Russek Manuals which are small and superior in every way (as long as you like line drwaings versus photos).
Russek cover the Xantia but not Hdi. Buy the Boxer van manual to cover theHdi

This seems to be the better of my two XM,s(where does all that petrol go?) but theres been a slightly worrying thing started lately,sometimes when maybe going around a corner the steering will hesitate to turn at all for a second!seems to hit a really heavy spot then it will pass with a little force and become light and normal again?It doesn't...

The steering goes stiff when turning, and a bit of force or backing of the turn then turning again solves the problem.

Does this happen when manouvering / driving at low / higher speeds?

I am going to take the front seats out of my xantia tomorrow so i can clean them and try to dry the carpets out . what i need to know is there any particular way you need to remove seats with airbags fitted, i am guessing there will be some type of connection under the seat for the airbag..any advice or instructions would be very much...

On the ZX the plastic 'rawl plugs' in the floor can turn and undo when you try to take the floor bolts out, if that happens you cant slide the seat forward enough to get at the rear bolts. :shock: So make sure you undo the back ones first, just-in-case :roll: :)

If it jerks then you might need to check the height corrector linkages as they may be a bit stiff and need cleaning and lubricating. Bouncy suspension is generally down to flat spheres so that would be a good place to start. No it can't be over tensioned using the spring loaded tensioner, it can however be under tensioned which is probably worse.

Two ways this can happen, 1, the plunger in front of the spring can go rusty making it stick in its bore, giving a false setting, and 2 the most common method of getting it wrong I suspect, letting the engine roll backwards...

hiya,
The motors which contol the height adjustment have gone poop on my
Cit ZX1.9TD

I have sussed out how to remove them from the car, 1 clip and a large plastic nut.

1 I have stripped, cleaned and greased, then put back. This works.
But the other one still jams and wont go up or down.

Cant find one anywhere on GFS parts. Dealer will be more...
