Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Brother in law has told me how the car starts fine in the mornings nicely since the glowplugs have all been done.

Very recently my Hdi stopped out of the Blue.
When I dissassembled the CR system, There was so much dirt and water that I felt like crying. The high pressure pump and injectors packed up. A VERY expensive bill is on its way.

My brother just tried to MOT his peugeot 306 low pressure diesel turbo estate. He had one of the new style computerised MOT tests and his car failed on ABS.

Now his problem is that the ABS warning light hasnt come on at any point........ it was the MOT centres interrogation of the cars ECU that generated the failure. the garage have no idea why...

I have tried in vain to stop the cam cover weeping oil on my ZX 1.9TD.

Im on my second rubber gasket now in 3k miles i couldn't stop the first one leaking so tightened the 3 bolts just a little past there torque settings and cracked the cover.....AT THIS STAGE I WEEPED

Down to local breakers for a replacement cover,fit another new gasket but...

I went past the local Citroen dealership today and noticed a C4 in the show room so I spun round & went for a sit in job.

Now I have a problem, I'm a fan of the C4 anyway but this was the first time I have actually sat in one & now I really love them! :roll:

I think there is an intention to keep them separate and different. C6 is no badge engineered Peugeot nor are the others except C1

Saxo was badge engineered but this sector of the market is not very profitable and the carsh testing standards killed the AX - so it was a quick replacement for AX and 106 that would crash satisfactorily. Citroen now...

Got to fit new cables on the ZX next weekend (one parted company, might as well do both, as the other looks suspect). Fortunately this one has rear discs, so no stripping of the drums required :P Just wondered if anybody's got any tips for common pitfalls?

I've just bought a C5 Exclusive SE Estate. Very pleased with it but the system disk for the satnav is missing. I've got the cartographic disk with the car, but not the system disk.
Can anybody give me clue where I can get a replacement or can anybody let me have a copy of their own one? All costs reimbursed.

Glad to hear you've found the problem. The fuel filter is also a fuel heater with a water supply to its base. From the sound of what you found its the thermostat fixing that is leaking. Somewhere on here are instructions and photos on how to repair it.

Thinking of doing all of the 4 main spheres on my 2001 Xantia over the christmas break. There seems to be 1 method stated more than any for the rear spheres, but some say to loosen the bleed screw on the accumulator before removing, and some say not... which is correct? Also, can't seem to find front spheres mentioned anywhere, are they the...

On Hydractive Xantias you will have a sphere on each strut as per usual, then another 'Hydractive' one on each axle (front one is behind the radiator, rear in the centre just behind the fuel tank with large metal pipe into it). You will also have the accumulator sphere attached to the gearbox and on models built from around 95 onwards another...

Ive used this company for front brake pads and discs
Have not used them for rear yet as the rear pads seem to be wrong , These are lockhead delphi LP699 which fit xsara ,zs ,pug306 etc (but alas not for my xsara). But the company also lists LP1778 which last year where not listed .
Any ideas as to where I can get the Lockhead delphi templates...

Be careful! Nothing wrong with the pads themselves but the contact patch on those I fitted to the front of our ZX 1.9D was slightly bigger in the centre and tried to make contact on a section of the disc that had rusted. Results were that the brakes were poor. New discs and pads now mean that they are merely uninspiring.

I too have both old and new Haynes manuals and find the old ones go into more detail, I do seriously dislike the bit that then says Refer to section 2.1.7 then reassembly is the reversal..... The best ones I have come across are the old autobooks manuals, i had one for my old VW camper, even went into details of reconditioning lightbulbs :)...

Hi While having a short drive in my Xantia hdi sx today the yellow engine light came on the one with the K on it...any ideas anyone, the car still run ok never lost power , when i parked up and went back to the car 5 minutes later switched on the engine the yellow engine light went off as per usual......any ideaa why it should come on ?

Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to replace the radiator on this model.

It leaked and it had Radewld which fixed it, but then a few days later it got cold and I had to drain off quite a bit to put antifreeze in at 40% mix. So radweld now very diluted.

The Haynes manual makes it sound simple but in practice there is an intercooler radiator...

Glad you managed it! That bottom hose really is a sod. The access to it is really poor and you just can't get the angle to push or to pull. Not until you break your wrist that is :lol:

Advise needed please. My 97 VSX Xantia is rattling more than ever - new water pump, air con bearing and belt fitted but engine clattering more than usual (positively deafening compared to my C5 HDI). All comments/suggestions welcome!!

Well, my crankshaft pulley is loose again - I was concerned that the crank was damaged last time and it appears that it was #-o

So, the crank is even more buggered this time and rather than waste any more time on it, the car has to go.

Anyone want a __very__ cheap Xantia 1.9TD to break in Cheltenham otherwise off to the scrappy.

Noticed slightly over a week ago that the rear passenger side door wont open, no amount of locking and locking and pulling and pushing would open it. Next day all was fine so didnt worry too much (well its a Citroen thing). Now the door stayed shut for about a week and suddenly on the way for lunch today it was a jar so closed it when i got pack...

i replacled my anti sink sphere yesterday, and the xantia still sinks after i turn the engine off, what could be the problem?
i've been told that the anti sink sphere is the same as the main sphere, is that right?

Ok, so I've bought a pair of 205/60/R15 Michelin XM1's for my Xantia, and so far so good, they seem to be working very well (not much chance to drive them yet, only through town) however I'm a bit unsure what pressure to run them at to give the best balance between ride and handling, and have normal wear patterns.

Ok, so the Heater Matrix has blown, and I'm getting a nice steam bath when I drive (unless I close all the ports, then the dashboard glass mists over).

Nice idea James I think was possible on Cxs using a cardboard template telling you where to cut , but on the ZX the matrix is right up against the bulkhead, its the last bit to come off :x , my mate Mr Fixit attempted to do a 306 one without removing everything, sort of loosening things off then reaching around it all, everything was going well...

I'm still soldiering on with my XM - though rapidly coming to the conclusion that I should have bought a brand new Citroen on contract hire!!!!

Hi everybody,

I think I need to check my wheel balancing on my CX - the car seems to vibrate harshly at 60 - 70 (I think - yet to sort out speedo!). The thing is, I'm really worried about the tyre fitter shoving a jack underneath and jacking it up. Am i being paranoid?

Is there anyway around this that anybody can think of?

Just a bit concerned...

The tyre fitters I use are usually quite good (I never use national fitting chains after a bad experience with a 2cv) - I will be supervising though.

It's crap that you can't trust these professionals without having to supervise them - makes it hard to see how they justify their prices.

Hi all,
Sorry to ask such a seemingly obvious question, but can anyone enlighten me as to the location of the pollen filter in a facelift Xsara? I have no Haynes manual as they don't produce one for the Mk 2 (not that it would be very helpful anyway!) and a search on the forum hasn't brought anything up. Your help would be appreciated!!

Well in the Xantia, never realised it had one until i read the handbook at work :lol: its above the footwell carpet at the front passenger side.

The cover is held in place with 3 screws on mine, some just slide off and clips also i think. Its a long thin rectangle and the filter just goes up inside it....however could differ with a Xsara but i...

Hi All,

Just trying to decide on some new front tyres for my Xantia (15 inch alloy rims) and over here at least there aren't that many choices of Michelin available (supposedly due to many of the other types not liking our harsh chip surface roads) and its come down to choosing between Energy MXV8 or Energy XM1. (I'm leaning towards the latter)...

I can see your point of view and agree with it to a degree but if you can improve the grip your car has you're increasing its safety. When a pedestrian steps out in front of you or a car pulls out in front of you the quality of your tyres could be the difference between an accident or being able to keep control of the car and avoid a collision....

I've been told today that the High Pressure Fuel Pump has failed :evil:

Seems to be a bad habit for HDI pumps. You're defo not the first to face this lemon ... :roll:

And yes they fail w/o warning. Engine simply dies for good because of missing fuel.

Would this water be coming from under the windscreen area? There is no wetness in the passenger side.
Is this wipers off and remove plastic thing under them, this part has a number of cracks on mine. Will it go back or will it be a trip to scrappy?

When my ZX did this, I got a blunt kitchen knife and ran the blade along between the bottom rubber screen seal and the glass, at the same time I sprayed silicone into the gap I was making.. That was about 3 years ago, It cured the leak.. :D

OOOH, I've just acquired a pair of the gas discharge headlamps from a dead C5 Exclusive to fit to my own, halogen equipped SX
Thanks to Wheeler, I know how to take off the bumper, and I've also checked the extra plug these lamps require is present and correct on the harness. Anything else I should know before tearing mine apart????

You may need to get the front foglamps de-programed from the BSI,the Xenon lamps dont have fron foglams so i dont know if it will operate correctly,just remember to check them afterwards.
Also cars fitted with HID headlamps must have automatic beam level correction & headlamp washers fitted by law just so you know.again the suspension ECU (BHI)...

this is photo of the cover which the broken part had snapped from...a nightmare to remove with 10 screws , most of them almost impossible to get too i was like a dentist with a mirror and a torch, not looking forward to replacing it when i get another to go on.......anyway if i can save myself money from citroens prices i will be happy...thanks...

The reason the wheel lifts is because the front two wheels are linked together by the roll bar. The stiffer the bar the more they'll move together. If the rear of the car is softer than the front the back end will lean and pull the front with it. As the roll bar is there at the front it...

HELP!
my 1992 BX TZD has a problem with the power steering . The assistance keeps varying ,one minute the steering is V light ,next quite heavy. I have had the fluids and filter changed , tightened up the drive belt. The brakes and suspension are fine. It seems worse when it is all cold , fairly minimal effects when it all gets up to normal...

Hi all . My xsara has just started to make a tinkling noise . Seems to be coming from passenger side of engine . At tick over not noisy , but as revs increase it to say 2500 it get noisy . then at 3000 it seems to stop . Any ideas Would be of benefit . Some of those 'No nail' adhesives shrink as they dry out, the last thing you need on a delicate PCB. Go for a covering which is designed for the job. I agree that a trip to Maplins is on the cards.

When using the climate control setting (auto) i find unless the control arm is almost on full it doesnt get as hot as expected.... yet on manual its roasting !!

Any ideas??

The interior temperature sensor is behind the slits to the left of the clock.
There's also a small fan in there to take cabin air in past the sensor.
The sensor gets dusty and insensitive.
A good blow into the slits will help clean it.
The fan motor spindle may have seized.
As squirt of WD40 (holy water) will fix that.
The assembly unclips most...

hi, my girlfriends AX has developed a strange problem. If you turn the car on the side lights work and the main beam but not the standard lights. If you switch all the lights on and off a couple of times, or whack the dash board like the Fonz, they sometimes come on! (Aayyyy!)

Just to add to this incase somone has the same problem and does a search.

I had the same problem on my Xantia.
Follow the fuel pipe back from the primer pump bulb towards the bulkhead. You will find that the fuel pipe bends downwards, this is where the rubber pipe decays, it is very common on fault. GSF don't sell the part but if you ask you will get at least 10% discount at citroen.

I'm renewing the LHM and cleaning the filters - or at least trying to - on a 16v, X reg. Xantia.

Depressurised the system, unclipped all the pipes from the side of the tank and disconnected the returns/vents (thin plastic pipes) and the top clip but there doesn't seem to be enough free movement to lift out the centre section prior to removing the...

The tank can easily be taken out without disconnecting any pipes using the method I describe in my earlier post, the tanks are all the same and with the same spiggot on the underside, though I am refering to the 1.9TD instalation, though why any other engine models should present problems is beyond me.

I increased the Power/Torque output of my ZX TD some 15 months ago. Since then I'm changing the L/H front bearing roughly every 6 months. I use good quality bearings (SKF) not eastern european quality.

Most of the journeys made are mostly Motorway (90%), but the increased torque is used at joining Motorways or joining roundabouts.

This you see from the PR-net listings on the inner suspension shocker alone :
(yeah - took a while to extract/assemble this list from various drawings :lol: )

Hi all

Ok i need 2 new ABS sensors front left and rear right (from sitting inside the car).
There is a Xantia in the breakers yard which i have been raiding, it also has the sensors i need, what are my chances of removing these sensors with out breaking them? and also any tips on this procedure would be most helpfull.

The sensor I removed from my front left was mostly plastic with a casing of thin (~0.5mm) stainless steel. The ones at the rear are similar.

They are mounted through cast iron which corrodes and secures the sensor in place. This is usually worst at the rear where you often need to drill/grind part of this mounting away to remove the sensor in one...

It's time i ask for some help. I swear i searched for this subject here.

I was going happily on the C5 today at around 130kms/h (ah, just love the cruise-control :D ) on a motorway on my way back home, a small 65kms (both ways) highway journey.

Alright fella's I have a question for ye! Well, the Xsara has all of a sudden developed a knocking noise (knockers! 8-[ ) coming from the near side front. It does it when driving along a bumpy road - if its a nice smooth road you dont really hear anything from it, only when you hit an imperfection in the road - havent noticed it when cornering or...
