Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Please help its not for my car but a friend has a 1996 P reg 1.9TD no ECU under bonnet.
He only has one key fob and would like another just in-case. So can he get a fob from any other xantia and re-programme, or does he need to go to dealer?

If he can just get a fob from ebay what one does he need to look for? its a 2 button one he has, 1st locks...

This is the correct way to do it.......On a 93 to 97 Xantia with 2 button plip.
I sorted my flip out like this. Put your key into igition switch and turn on. Put plip right up to red dome in roof lining, by int. mirror. Press until your hear/feel a click , up to 12 times. Switch off ignition, and aim plip at dome, click it and it should work, ie...

I have now got both front cooling fans working 100% when the air con is operating ( replaced 2 knackered relays ) what i need to know is should any of the fans operate when i am on auto climate control, it does not seem like they are working but when i switch the air con button in...

Ordered some back spheres and the accumulator sphere which is costing me £100 tomorrow.

I am still quite in shock at how sodding easy they were to do, the tool (Boa) worked a treat and no elbow grease was needed at all, unscrewed them, little loss of fluid, put the news ones in (lhm round the rubber) and...

Just managed to get the Xantia started, but I'm still confused as to why or how or whatever.

I cleaned (wasn't that dirty) the plugs & put them back in, rebuilt the cam covers & checked the oil level, it was just below the lower notch so I filled it up, then checked fuel plenty of that.
So next up is check all the timing points, in order to do...

Well just done the air filter but lost a screw and dont have any spares, Wilkobob is sure to have 1.

Fuel filter, drained the containter and replaced, bit of arsing about so i think i will just not bother draining anymore hehehe.

Ive replaced the washer jets to the new Xsara Mist Jets, not actually that difficult to do which is surprising if you...

Would a faulty lambda sensor cause an eratic idle and the engine management light to come on?

Mine seems to splutter and phantom rev. Just wondered if it could be the lamba sensor like someone suggested to me.

do NOT try clean a Lambda sensor :?
- this would most likely destroy the surface layer.
The lambda sensor is only working when near red hot. You can not test it.

But you can unplug or replace it and observe if engine behaviour changes. There is a plug in the engine bay which is out of the way of the hot exhaust manifold.

i have bought new sensors for my car, so i want to replace the ones that have gone.
Now i tried about a month ago to remove the sensors from a Xantia in the scrap yard, the rear ones were impossible to remove in one piece,
so ok i don't mind breaking the old ones, but are there any tips on how to get them out broken or not with out damaging...

Ive just replaced both rear suspension arms on my Xantia and had to ruin one of the abs sensors.No amount of lubrication,heat or twisting/pulling removed the dam thing.Ended up cutting it out with a small hacksaw.

Mate in work has bought himself a TD Xantia 1.9 SX saloon on a P plate and is happy with his new charriot.

One thing the worries him a bit about it however, is a tendency for the brakes to replicate a kind of slow motion ABS effect under ANY braking from high or slow speed. The symptom is felt as a on/off/on/off etc biting of the brakes although...

I replaced yesterday one of the lower arm balljoints in my ZX. All was going well until I tightened the screw that holds it to the axle.

I kept turning and turning and it would't tighten. Removed the bolt and surprise! the threads of the nut had stripped :x .

Luckily, the bolt was OK but still had the problem of finding a nut. As any good home...

Hydraulic Citroens shouldn't tick more frequently than about every 30 seconds. If they do the chances are that the accumulator sphere attached to the regulator has failed. Loads of sets of instructions on here on changing it.

To test - set suspension to normal height, get it there and let the engine idle for a couple of minutes. Turn off engine...

I have just accuired a grubby ZX it looks like the interior plastic has never been cleaned....Starting with the Dash and all its inground dirt.

How do i get a realy deep clean on that crodile skin black plastic.
I was thinking of Good old Fairy and a Toothbrush ? Anyone have any tried and test solutions ?

HP Citroen brakes are exceptionally powerful, even when not at their best - not everyone likes them, but they can certainly lock the wheels effectively :D

I am trying to source either a whole blower motor or the resistor/transistor pack for my colleagues 1997 406. The car has air con. There is a xantia and an XM blower on ebay which look the same. My Xantia has no aircon so I cannot compare. I am not going to start going to the scrapyard as that will take up too much of my (free) time. Want the part...

Its the motor brushes I reckon, it is very jerky in operation, and sometimes doesnt work at all, even when you put power straight to it. As I said it is for a colleague so I do not want to spend much time, simply swapping it over.

I wonder if anyone can help me, I am looking for a good diagram of the hydraulic suspension on a 1993 1.8 16v Citroen Xantia Temptation Estate.

A friend of mine parked her car up one night came out the next day and the rear suspension was right down on the stops, and it will not raise at all by moving the lever, the front raises and lowers all...

My 96 XTD with hard HA2 suspension was partly solved when plugged into the Proxia computer which shows my steering angle was off about 41 degrees to the right. Some time ago I've taken out the steering sensor to access the dash lights. Without the Proxia, its impossible to tell if the angle is correct as there are no markings on the sensor. Now...

How are the sphere pressure on the rear ? Hydractive centre sphere gassed up ok in particular ? Can you notice a big difference in the softness during a bounce test in hard or soft modes ?

Rear and HA spheres regassed at correct pressures. Hand bounce seems to be OK, soft but when driving, doesn't seem to bounce as softly as by hand. Will clean...

Folks, when I start my Xantia the outside temp seems totally believable, however after driving, it goes up by many degrees ;) kinda defeats the object..

any thoughts?

I have tried to find this out from the BoL and give up :evil:

What should the idle speed be on my 1.9 SX TD 1993 Xantia be;

1 When cold

2 When warmed up?

It always seems to be just under a thousand regardless of whether I am starting it on a cold morning or if it has been running for an hour and a half (I have a 120 mile round trip to work...

I agree with all that has been said before - except - that the waxstat device should give an increase in idling speed - so if yours is idling at 1000 when hot (which will sound slightly fast) someone has adjusted the idling to compensate for a failed waxstat.

When I left the thing disconnected on my BX TD its cold idle dropped and the thing was...

I think that the hardest part of the job is getting the white plastic clip on to the end of the cale on to the pedal.

Other that that I think it's fairly straight forward.

Hi, I've had a reasonable scan through the old search option but I'm guessing the author/contributors in recent postings covering this thread will tell me faster than I'm going to find the info!!

When the pump needs priming through the manual bulb input, is the cause of the dropped pressure in the feed due to seals in the diesel pump or the...

Leakoff pipes will only cause bad starting or other running problems with a Bosch injection pump. Leakoff's on Lucas/CAV/Roto-diesel - simply make a mess and smell!

I don't think that my stalk has a position for optional front fog lights.

Sorry for posting this , but a friend of mine had his ford escort 1.6 96 fail the mot . Mot tester said failed fast idle test. Any ideas as to why it wouldnt stay at fast idle .I belive it dropped revs Any ideas would be a great help .

Thinking again about this one its unlikely to be the engine thermostat as on the MOT the instructions are to wait till the fans start to cycle on and off before measuring the emmissions. Could still be the fuel injection engine temeprature sensor not informing it that the engine has warmed up properly.

Of course blocked air filters and numerous...

Strange - as I'd have thought that removing dirt would have increased leakages from elderly components which is why I've never done it. perhaps in fact the dirt was restricting the proper operation of a valve - doseur or height corrector?

HI I've just changed the front brake pads and discs on my xantia after they failed the mot this afternoon.
I had real trouble getting the cylinder/ram to retract so i could get the caliper back on with the new pads on. I ended up using a large g clamp to wind it back in.
Is there an easy way of doing this that doesn't encourage a fair amount of...

I've been trying to tighten the aux drive belt on the zx, 1.9 diesel non turbo, power steering, non air con, and according to the haynes it says to loosen the TWO locking bolts, one in the center of the tensioner pulley and one just below the tensioner pulley, but I can only see the one below the pulley there doesn't seem to be one in the centre...

I've done this one recently, either requires a ramp or for you to remove a wheel and part of the arch on the driver side. All much clearer once i'd done that.

Had the same problem with what the haynes said and spent a while slackening off what turned out to be the mounting bolts for the alt itself!!

My diesel Xantia has a Bosch AS3 ECU fuel system.

The pump has 3 plugs:- Throttle position sensor; Timing advance solenoid; Fuel cut off solenoid.

But, its never worked properly and I've bitten the bullet and purchased a Pre ECU Bosch pump off Ebay for 10 quid.

I've fitted the replacement pump. But this older pump has only one plug. The plug...

Hi, i have attempted to disable the immobilizer by setting it to 0-0-0-0
on my '98 XM as stated in the manual.
All this does is set it to the given number, but still has to be entered to start.

The procedure i used is:

- unlock by entering the current code
- press 'C'
- press '0-0-0-0'
- press 'C' again
- i get a 4-beep confirmation

I need help pulling up my boot straps! I recently replaced a CV boot on my Xantia 1.9TD but haven't been able to get the supplied straps sufficiently tight to prevent grease escaping. Is there a specialist plier available for this or does anyone know a practical workaround? The boot is standard GSF fare and has three possible tightness positions...

There is a tip in the Haynes manual, which states to bend the end of a coathanger over by ~ 20mm, feed that through the hole in the boot strap and pull on the coat hanger with pliers to get the tension.

Havent tried it myself though... and i would advise caution, you dont want to slip and jab the other end of the coat hanger into your eye :shock:

Folks,

Haynes and Russek seem to address the BE3 only.

Is the plug on the front side of the casting, up by the regulator?

I've found one there with a copper washer, taken it out, but it is around 2
inches long, and threaded into something steel, rather than the alloy
casing.

I recall a horror story of a Simca gearbox losing some kind of vital...

I was looking at a cars at the weekend at a salvage auction(see my other post) There were a few peugeots and citroens which had no code with them, and no V5. I know a dealer will issue a code if you have a V5 however you cannot get one for a write off until you MOT it. Is there a way round it?

A slightly different approach, if you're after heated washer jets, is to utilise the coolant temperature. My old SAAB (RIP) had a simple heat exchanger fitted in the upper rad hose. This was a unit of coiled copper washer pipe wound around a metal rad hose - and it worked quite well.

I don't know how well this would heat the washer water with...

I am wondering if anyone has experience of buying from a salvage auction? I was at one on Saturday and there was an excellent low mileage 98R ZX TDSX one owner FSH 77k miles with a scrape all along one side, not that bad and to be honest I could live with it, for £260. It however was a cat C. There were lots of others with very little damage that...

ive brought quite a few salvaged vehicles mate and in my opinion dont buy anything that has any suspension damage or heavy front end damage.

Ive lost more then i gained a few times

Go for something that has minor body damage like a scrape or wing/door replacement and you will pick up a great bargain.

Ive just been trying to fix the stereo controls on the steering wheel. I decided to take the steering wheel off, but managed to ruin the air bag rotary connector behind it. All of the things inside it came out and a couple are broke. Where can I get another one? Are they expensive?

Theres always the scrapyard for secondhand parts.
