Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Hi,

I had a mobile mechanic change the down pipe and anti roll bar passenger side drop link bar on my xantia hdi THE OTHER.
The mechanic went off and I thought all was well.

Until I drove the car and realised it was on the bump stops. (BOUNCING ALL OVER THE PLACE)

Hi,
It's been a month or so since I've posted (so appologies for not helping other people) but I need help again.

The missus has been playing bumper cars in her Mk2 Xsara, and has damaged the front bumper. It's moved down, moving the off-side headlight slightly but hasn't cracked or broken.

Not necessarily. If there's an automotive panel specialist near you, try asking them - it's probably a commonly replaced part, so they might stock it, and it WILL be cheaper than the original part.

Apparently the door mech on our ZX has frozen up, and although my wife opened the door OK, it won't latch again. I guess that the mech has got some water in it somewhere, and has gone stiff - but anybody had this before, and know where it's likely to be - rather than me stripping the inside off the door when I get home tonight and it's minus a lot...

since a car crashed into the front of my xantia my wipers have become intermittent the horn has ceased working,the rcl and central locking has stopped working including the fuel cap lock the interior lights hardly work and when they do they surge along with the clock and when the non working horn is pressed the clock fades out!!!!

hello

I noticed on many td engines a fuel connector under the bonnet which is black with 4 inputs / outputs on it. It goes in the fuel line on the return to the pump from the drain off pipes (bosch system) and between the fuel filter and the supply into the pump. I tried putting one on my zx but the car would not runn throwing out white smoke...

i tried blowing down each of the pipes leading into the unit but there wasnt any resistance, it just seemed to be a junction box to connect the four pipes - would you expect there to be a valve of some sort inside??

i might cut it up and have a look inside!! :twisted:

Missus's Xsara seems to have developed a lumpier than usual idle. It also tends to struggle to catch itself from stalling sometimes if the throttle is blips and it is left to return to idle. Previous owner StuartMcB told me when I bought it for her from him that it had a little modification that cured a stalling problem. This unit is pictured...

Thought you guys & girls might like to see my ZX:

As you can see she is work in progress at the mo.
Look carefully & you'll notice the rear arches & have rolled to fit the 16v kit (bit of a perfectionist me!), the door locks have been removed, a 16v bootlid & all, yes ALL of the dents have been removed from the sides.

I admire your commitment Ross! I guess the obvious question would be why not start with a 16v instead of a 1.4? There always seem to be one or two on ebay, and I've never seen them sell for more than a grand (and normally a lot less).

I rebuilt the engine of my 16v over Christmas and fitted a 306 GTi 6-speed box. It has only done 55k miles but...

Evening all

After my 1.9i Volcane threw a headgasket, I got myself a tidy 2.0i 8v version instead (Couldnt afford to be off the road and the car had just failed an MOT too)

Anyway, my main issue with the newer ZX (still a Volcane) is the gearbox. There is NO synchro left on 3rd gear. Now, I have a perfect and healthy gearbox in the older ZX but...

No need draining the block.
Undo the flywheel retaining bolts and remove flywheel. Jerk out old seal - fit new seal (though it can be a teaser to get it in squarely :roll: )
Remember threadlock compound on (correctly torqued) flywheel bolts.

I have not been able to get the rear wash wipe to wash since I got the car and being a nice day today thought I'd investigate. The tube comes through the wiper arm onto a sort of plastic stick that is stuck on to the wiper. I disconnected the rubber tube from the stick and that works okay. I removed the plastic stick to clean it, thinking it would...

Xantia Rear wash wipe

I have not been able to get the rear wash wipe to wash since I got the car and being a nice day today thought I'd investigate. The tube comes through the wiper arm onto a sort of plastic stick that is stuck on to the wiper. I disconnected the rubber tube from the stick and that works okay. I removed the plastic stick to clean it, thinking it would...

since a car crashed into the front of my xantia my wipers have become intermittent the horn has ceased working,the rcl and central locking has stopped working including the fuel cap lock the interior lights hardly work and when they do they surge along with the clock and when the non working horn is pressed the clock fades out!!!!

Lumpy Xsara Idle

Missus's Xsara seems to have developed a lumpier than usual idle. It also tends to struggle to catch itself from stalling sometimes if the throttle is blips and it is left to return to idle. Previous owner StuartMcB told me when I bought it for her from him that it had a little modification that cured a stalling problem. This unit is pictured...
