Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

My front side lights don't work, the rears do but the light on the dash doesn't either. I have taken the very small 5W bulbs out to see if they are blown. I can't tell so I'll change them anyway.

Does the Xantia have a clever feature that tells you the bulbs have blown by stopping the dash light from working?

As a resident of France I can assure you that we don't have yellow headlights here! I think that if you find a car over about 20 years old it may still have them fitted, but 99% now have white headlights.

Hi. I have recently tried replacing pads and discs on a second hand '98 2.1 TD Xantia. Like others, I have found uneven pad wear on inner and outer pads. Dics are well worn, but I could not remove them as both the caliper bolts and disc fixing screws are rusted in tight, and their star heads are burred.

Does anyone have any tips for removing...

RP number 7829, so would have had older discs. Dics I got were new ones as they were also specified for 2.0 110 HDI, so that is the problem.

I was working on the car the other day with the engine idling. I noticed when cold theres a rather loud ticking sound fron the offside wheel well, obviously coming from the engine.. It doesn't seem to be quite as loud in side the engine bay.
I hadn't really noticed the sound before ( maybe I had, but it didn't seem that loud) the sound is still...

i had the crank pulley go on my Hdi 306,

dropped it off at the peugeot dealer, everything done for £150 next day.

Peugeot do an uprated crank shaft pulley which is £120. Much better then the cheaper ones apparently.

I had the cambelt, water pump and crank pulley all done on mine at the same time from the dealer for £360 all in.

I'm sure this has been covered here before, though I've not found it in the search listings. My Ma's 1996 Xantia 2.0i VSX is now showing lethargy in actually steering assistance on turning with hard or minor inputs. Guess it points to loss of the power assistance.

Thing is, the car has had a hydraflush and was run for the time period required...

I have just bought myself a V6 Xantia.

Does anyone have a diagram of the activa suspension, and what additional components are needed to transfer it over? I have managed to find a website which mentions replacing an Activa Ram.

Theres a guy breaking a red one in Crewe, which i might travel down and whip the bits off.

if i put the V6 in the activa the insurance would go mental as its a power increase, whereas with the activa kit in the V6, its only classed as an uprated anti roll bar which doesn't affect it.

As title, the rear seems too soft and it tends to rise and fall as I'm driving, I don't mean extremes but just enought to pee off the driver in front with my headlights.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the obvious here - soft rear suspension will compress under acceleration, causing the car to tilt backwards when you accelerate and forwards when you ease off.

You don't say whether you have a Hydractive 2 model or not, but they are even softer than normal so this behaviour is semi-normal. This is why Hydractive 2...

As with Direct Line, Elephant .co.uk will 'mirror' the no claims on your second car...........in fact they've even done it for my third car.

I've insured both of my cars with Elephant and they gave me a no claims discount straight away on the second car.

Thanks, I've been reading the threads about changing the clutch cable and it sounds like a b*tch of a job. Not too bothered though as I'm not afraid of a little work. The drivers seat needs taking out anyway as it needs tidying up at the back as the cover has come loose.

Blue Xant is squeeking from the back when cornering, something to do with the oxidation between the caliper & the carrier?? I can't remeber for looking, is it a big job? I don't really want to strip the rear off currantly my only working car & either break or find out I need parts.

Took me 3 days to sort out my rear calipers. Firstly ALL 4 caliper bolts snapped, had to drill out 3 of them, order replacements from Citroen. Got sold the wrong drill for the tap and drilled the holes so big that the tap fell through.
Ended up using V-Coil to fix it. What a PITA. I'd recommend that you ALL check the rear calipers for oxidisation...

just saw my cousins 405 Mi16x4, it's here in the citroen forum because it's got the hydropneumatic suspension in the back which i want to share with you...

It's quite a weird set up really, initially i got there and the bonnet was open, and i saw this little black sphere in the engine bay together with a big clear coloured box of what we thought...

I used to have a 309 Mi16 - best car I have owned to date for sheer pleasure of driving.

The Mi16 engine is pretty easy to tune. The first upgrade is to ditch the injection system and go for throttle bodies. The sky's the limit with those engines if I can remember - You can get over 200bhp without too much hassle.

Hello This may seem a silly question but---- there is a switch just in front the suspension height adjustment lever. It has a picture of a spring on it.According to the handbook (on page 97) it states that switch up warning light off, normal position. Switch pushed down warning light on, sports position. The switch on mine (1997) does not latch...

Just changed the Timing Belt on my ZX 1.9TD....

I started like i always do locking the pulleys and crankshaft.

My first job was to Replace all the rollers with new.After fitting the new belt the way i always do i noticed it was a bit slack.The new Tensioner Pulley could be causing this so read the Haynes Manual turned the engine over by hand...

The XUD is actually one of the easiest engines to time I have seen. The bolt holes in the sprockets and head are a brilliant idea. Just done the cambelt on a Renault 1.9TD... Nowhere near as easy.

It's been a few years since I have done one. Are all 3 holes 8mm? What length do the pins need to be? Then I can make some for when I do it soonish.

Haynes says Tilt the glass downward then reach behind and pull the top of the glass away from the adjuster plate to release the retaining clips

I can't tilt the glass down enough to get behind the glass.

My son has just bought a '93 td Volcane, with which he is very pleased apart from the ride, which he says is hard and jittery. My wife has a td estate which he says rides much better than his. Is this a peculiarity of the Volcane or is there something he can do about it.

Yes it is firm. Much firmer than a std ZX. The Volcane is lower with stiffer dampers and much stiffer torsion bars. It should never be unsettled - more like glued to the road.

I have one too!

Note that the bushes really do get a hard time in the volcane and it will transform the handling if you do get them done. I need mine done too now.

My LX TD looked different under the bonnet to my new TD Estate. I have also noticed a difference in power but put that down to the extra weight of the estate.

How do I check that I have actually got a Turbo? Also would a duff glow plug produce poorer performance? They changed all but the most difficult one back in November....... :-({|=

it looks as though you have cut the tube to the height of the spring's resting length, surely this will restrict the movement of the pedal in such a way that you can't push the pedal down far enough and thus restrict the amount of pressure you can apply to the brakes?
If this is the case surely this mod is bloody dangerous!?

Did this job myself last night - only took a few minutes to whip out the spring and find a piece of pipe to fit. I haven't drive the car far yet - I took it on a quick cruise around the block - but it definately feels much more controllable.

I did the hair dryer and it worked. I then used vegetable oil and that shifted some glue...what it did do really well though was bring the silver trim at the top of the bumper up a treat!!!

I T-cut the rest off.

What is the flow rating of the Cx25 prestige injectors?
also are they low/high impedance??

That would be the 1985 on non-turbo 25GTI engine (M 25659)

This engine utilises a Bosch LE-jetronic injection system.
Injectors fitted are Bosch type 0280 150 254.
The coil resistance is approx 16 ohms which classifies it as a High resistance (early multipoint) type injector.
Flow rate : 260 ccm @ 2.5 Bar

My passenger door lock spins round and round rather than engaging and locking/unlocking the door. Is there a way of fixing this? Alos my boot lock doe not operate the central locking - is this correct?

it's noticeable when braking... you can feel the seat move forward a few milimeters, are there any obvious place I should start looking before delving in the seat's belly?

Hi,

Been driving round in my xantia for 2 weeks now, sorted out the cruchy gearbox with a bit of clutch adjustment - thanks for the tips..

A couple of issues I have found; The car sometimes lifts (whilst driving), and finally settles at the setting between High and normal (even though the setting is at normal), turn the engine off and it also...

Yes I have to admit I couldnt believe how pathetic the glove box is on the Mk1....why on earth did they stick that Anti-Chris bar on instead of making a bigger glove box.

Oh your wondering about the Anti-Chris bar....yeah its the grab handel fellow passengers hold onto when I'm driving....

Hi... my c5 is a lx model... so the the mirror caps and the door''s exterior plastics... are not painted in colour of the car.... can they be removed to be painted?

is it a easy diy? anyone has already painted it? or is it better to take them to a bodywork garage to get them painted?

Hi, Hopefully someone on this site might be able to shed some light on my problem.
I have a 1999 Citroen Xantia 2.0.Hdi (110) which has done less than 37k and has always been serviced, the problem is a rattle on the front when going over less then good road surfaces.
My garage has had the car in on more than one occasion but the story is the same,...

I would whip the wheels off and inject some grease into the rubbers on the anti-roll link bars...if the problem continues it might be because a lot of crap has already gotten in their so you may just need replacing again, some have been known to fail very quickly so if replacements are due i would inject grease into them also.

Hi All,

another query for you experienced HDIers out there. I've noticed that my Xsara HDI 90 is flat as a f**t until the engine warms up. Is this normal? ie is the ECU limiting performance to protect the engine or is there something that might need a good dose of looking at?

I only ask because I have to join a busy dual carriageway about half a...

When my wipers are 'parked' they always come up that little bit more. I'm not sure how low down they are supposed to be when parked, but when in movement they have always reached lower down before moving back up.

So after adjusting the passenger side blade up a bit so it doesn't hit the body work (obvious scratch/digging marks) they both seem...

Mine was the same on my xantia hdi, i simply undid both nuts and carefully prised both wipers of there shafts and reposistioned them slightly lower down....perfect and no problems at all after.

Hi All,

Does anyone happen to have a picture of exactly where the knock sensor is on the 2.0 litre petrol 8 valve Xantia ? The engine type is XU10 / RFX.

I have reason to believe the sensor on mine is intermitantly faulty (or the wiring to it) but without being able to identify where it is with certainty I can't check it.

Am I right in thinking...

There is a sensor about 2/3 of the way down the block on the front of the block, but it's on the opposite end to the oil filler cap....I'll try and take a picture of it tonight to see if anyone recognises it.

Yes the 2 litre 8 valve Xantia's have knock sensors Anders, the (later?) 16 valve ones dont.

I need some advice on how to get to the Roller Tensioner Bolts on my 94 ZX 1.9TD the ones under the Cam Pulley i cant seem to make any extra space to work ? :oops:

I am in the process of changing the Timing Belt/Water Pump and need to also change the Rollers as a precaution (125k)

Thanks for all replies.......Well have now fitted three new rollers but what a sqeeze no room to work down that side.
Not managed to get timing belt set up yet,done 2 ZX belts before never had a problem but this one...Pheeeeeeeew

Does anybody know if there are any good reasonably priced garages for servicing and repair of xantia's around Falkirk, stirling or fife? I know you could probably just take it to any decent garage and they could probably deal with it But with car like this your probably best taking it to a specailist are you not?

Had the same problem with mine, and another person on this forum had it too.
Opne the boot lid, remove the trim. You will find a solenoid with a 3mm diameter steel rod or so goinfg up. Push it up to open the rear glass.
Take the plastic ocver out, on the inner side of the wiper blade and you will find a plug. Disconnect it for a few days (if it's...

Any one any experience or knowledge of C5 cruise control problems/wiring/operation?

Mine has just started to operate intemittently. That is it works ok on one journey and then on a restart it does not. Obviously could be poor switch connection either on control or on one of the deactivating inputs (brakes etc) or an ecu problem ?

Any ideas or...

My xantia is the usual dark green colour with a paintcode of ERY MR, what i need to know is what is that colour called....Is it emerald green or perhaps another type of green...Thanks Colin

Have never looked inside a Citroen engine compartment before and am a bit intimidated by the amount of components, pipes & wires surrounding the alternator on all sides - nothing like the Haynes manual!!

I have already taken off the aux belt together with the lower alternator...

Hi,

I have owned a Xantia 1.9TD for well over a year now and had little problems with it, until now that is. When I operate my indicators they stay on and switch from one side to the other intermitantly, sometimes the hazards even come on! Is this a simple fix or will it drain the bank account?
