Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have just taken the Synergie for it's MOT. I was expecting a fail, and had put aside a couple of hundred quid for it just in case. I was made to wait for ages. I know i read recently someone had a problem with one of their Xantia stalks and used WD40 to get it working again.

My wiper stalk does not operate the intermittent wiper or the wiper when you use the washers. It does everything else Ok.

ABS light is on. Tests show it to be 'NSF' sensor. I'm presuming this is the front wheel on the passenger side?

Went to the local scrapyard and obtained a couple of sensors from an R reg Xantia. Got home only to find that the body of the sensor is longer than those fitted. Is there a work around?

Should the sensor end with the magnets touch the hub or be slightly above it?

Yes there MUST be a clearance (usually just 1-2mm ish, check Haynes manual for exact measurement) otherwise the sensor will be destroyed. The sensors work by way of magnetic fields.

I have both the side and main airbag lights on. I have read the posts and have tried unppluging, cleaning and then reassembling but to no avail.

Not keen on cutting the wires and soldering them all so can anyopne help me in identifying which coloured plugs / wires are the key ones? There appears to be a large block which goes no where and at...

I've just done a search on 'C5' and it returned nil results.

I previously searched on 'C5 AND lock' which returned the same result as for 'lock'.

I DON'T have this problem with 'Xantia AND lock' or 'xantia'.

Anyone else tried this? I really want to look at C5 search returns.

Maybe short alphanumerics (C5?) get ignored. This could be a problem...

Just to say thanks to the forum for providing the information that I needed to program a second plip for my wife's car! I finally found out how to do it without un-programming the first plip - yeah!

I had same problem on my 1.8 Xantia, and thought it was the stepper motor. A diagnostic check revealed it was the MAP sensor.

I'm needing to replace the injector leakoff pipes on my 1.9TD Xantia. They have gone very hard, are a little damp and on initial morning startup there is a moments hesitation, suggesting they're causing a little air leak..

What is the best material to use to replace them and where can it be obtained. I cannot recall seeing anything that looked...

Tomorrow i shall be attempting to cure my wonderfull xantia's :lol: hydraulic issues.

Recently the front near side sphere failed causing a lack of suspension travel on that corner. I have since replaced both front spheres and all is well (almost)

I am looking at changing the stat soon, however the picture in Haynes are for the 2.0 8v engine (great!) so im unsure of a few (a lot) of specific queries.

1)where is the thermostat? - is it on the left hand side of the head, near the blue, brown and green switches, where the top hose leads into the engine

This is usually located in the bulkhead. There should be 2 hoses going into the cabin. You open this bleed screw and also the rad cap. Blow into the rad with your mouth. Water should come out, along with any air stuck in the system.

Good luck! :D and remember to wash your mouth afterwards and avoid swallowing, it can be dangerous.

I have read that on the xud 9 engines if the coolant isnt changed often the engine can blow its head gasket. Iv ran serveral petrol cars in the past for years and years with only ever topping up the coolant level without any problems at all. So how many miles is often on this car?

iv also read that the xantia has to be serviced at a specialist...

The grooved piece pulls out, and has max and min levels on it.
Maximum level is the top of the groove, and minimum level is the bottom of the groove.
If you keep adding coolant, the expansion when hot will expel it through the overflow.

My aircon is no longer cold, when you press the button for the aircon i hear the engine change tone.

I had it regassed july last year, surly it should not need regassing again already? I looked at the eye window thing under the bonnet, but i cannot remember if there should be bubbles or no bubbles going past the viewing window, as there is non.

The stop light came on, fluid everywhere, no breakdown cover!! Today I drove all the way up to the car to find that the pump had basically split in two and the three bolts which hold it all together had all snapped. I took it apart and saw that there did not appear to be too much damage, so put it back together again, in the rain, topped up LHM...

Im wanting to upgrade the speakers in my xantia to better quality ones but i dont want to spend alot on them. just a bit better than the crap thats in the car. as far as i can tell my car has 4 speakers in two on the dash and two in the front doors. Hi Guys,
Does anyone know any major problems with putting a 1998 saxo VTS motor into a 1998 zx 1.4i temp? Could be a bit of fun as i've just been offered a 45k engine that ive known for 3 years for £300. Currently thinking the PAS pump location and drive shafts size would prob be the only real issues? Would obviously be upgrading the front brakes...

I've just done a conversion from single to multipoint & can tell you it as a ball ache.
If the donor car has a transponder type immobiliser your best unlocking the ecu while the engine will run in the sax. This will save you masses of time & effort.

I'm after a Turbo D Xantia to run along side my guzzler, the Activa Xantia.

I saw one today, looked nice, R Reg, SX, Aircon, but it had 160.000 miles on the clock. I just had visions of the clutch going. My friends Xantia Turbo D clutch went at 166,000 miles, and my SX 2.0i Petrol Xantia clutch on my old car went at 156,000 miles.

1 : The ALARM on my recently aquired ZX 1.9TD doesn't work when armed with the PLIP. The lights dont flash theres no sounder goes off.
Where is the ALARM situated and how do i fault find ? Theres an half page mention in the Haynes Manual but they say take it to the Dealers :cry:

2 : My LIGHTS LEFT ON BUZZER doesn't work either ? I have changed...

The sounder just pulls out but can be very stiff and a pig to put back in.
I still need help locating the Alarm on my ZX.i think someone has done something to the alarm and it has caused a few electrical hic hups.

I've bought a V6 Xantia, and i collect it on Friday.

I am just wondering, are there any known issues that i should look out for with the V6? My dad has owned an Activa, and i have had an XM.

Was just wondering if any of you guys knew any well known issues with the V6's.

Nope, there isn't a tow bar on the car either which pleased me, made me think its not been worked hard anyway.

I pick the car up on Friday, so i will get some pictures posted of the car when i get it. The Cam Belts were changed about 50,000 miles ago. Probably going to need to get them...

Hello. I've got a Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.8 petrol, year 2000. A couple of weeks ago it wouldn't start - it turned over but there was no spark. The key symbol, on some occassions appeared, on the dash indicating that the key wasn't recognised. following an unsuccessful attempt to fit a used abs ecu unit a quick question -
does anyone know what the relevant numbers on the ecu abs unit are when trying to identify a replacement unit ?

Can anyone tell me where the top up plug is on a AX 1.1 gearbox,as mine needs a drink after the halfshaft came adrift today,while changing a strut.

I have an idea,but want confirmation,and also need to know what size the plug head may be,if it's the one I'm thinking it is.

I looked into this today & it doesn't seem to bad.
My plan? To remove the ABS from a 1.9D & retrofit it to my 1.4I.
The only headache that I can see is the driveshafts. Providing you have ABS equipped hubs, but even thats not the end of the would - its all transferable.
The wiring is just a addon, it piggybacks off the underbonnet fuse box,...

I've been changing both track rod ends on the ZX today, first one no problem, done in 10mins, second one different story, completely seized!!!

Have tried heating it but it still wont go, infact we managed to bend the arm without it even moving a mm. The locknut was seized too which i had to cut off.

The track rod is a complete unit with inner balljoint. Its the inner balljoint you unscrew from the rack. And yes you grip on the large egg behind the ball. There will be flats on the rack to counter hold not to twist and damage the rack.
Boot must come off to do/see this.

Note : track rod type depends on year/model/engine/power-steering/not...

You know the citroen xantia dash adaptor the one from citroen not the one from halfords, It has a little flap on it to hide your cd player, Whats it worth second hand? I heard they were cheep from citroen cheeper than halfords but when i went into a citroen dealers parts department they wanted over 40 pounds for it.

Just bought a M plate Xantia TD LX as my daily drive, very happy with it. Last Citroen I had was an XM about 10 years ago, I had forgotten how smooth the ride is....

There are a couple of issues with the car, its difficult to get into 1st/2nd gear (I'm assuming just the gearbox oil needs replacing), and the rear ride hight adjuster is a bit...

Hi... does anybody know were on the c5 can i pass a power cable from the batt to the trunk to power an amplifier?, is it behind the fusebox on the engine bay were the cable can pass? since its the only place were i think it possible without drilling a hole, wich i dont want to do.

these sockets were found under rear electric window switches in the back of the centre column (next to handbrake), one was a big red socket with maybe 20 pins, the other was a smaller yellow one with maybe 10 pins? any idea what they are for?

so i'm assuming ALL wiring is already in the car for all the option, it's just a matter of plug and play,...

Hi All, I am trying to do a favour to a friend by getting her 405 through its MOT (that is now done, but there is a very ominous knock from front drivers wheel area)

For the MOT I did,

Are there any reasons or things i should know about that would cause my immobilizer not to disarm when i put the key in the ignition.

I put the key in as normal, and as usual I wait for the glow plugs to go off, but they little orange key light in the revcounter didn't go off and it started beeping!! I pulled the key out, and tried again and it...

I have just had my windscreen replaced and I noticed the scuttleboard under the wiper arms was originaly stuck to the screen. When they fitted the new screen they just placed the scuttleboard on the windscreen and the only thing holding it now are the two wiper arms and two plastic plugs. Should I stick the board to the screen or is it not needed....

As it happens they have to remove the whole screen and replace it again as they had fitted the thing incorectly, it isnt square and the top corner is not level with the roof, this along with the fact the scuttleboard was not sealed makes me real confident for the refit :)

At the tip today a C5 parked next to me and it had a switch in the boot with what looked like height settings displayed on it. You know a circle with a line through it at different heights. What does it do and why would you use it?

Hi Gang,

Can anybody suggest what the following problem is??????

The rear suspension is striking the the rubber stoppers on the the arms when it hits large bumps even at low speeds.

Any suggestions to solve same gratefully recieved.

Is the rear ride height correct. The linkage siezes easily - soaking it in WD40 and then oiling it may help.

Is the plastic link still there and connected to the height corrector? If its all nice and free and hasn't bent then the height may need to be adjusted (rotate clamp on anit-roll bar - but support the car carefully or else it will KILL...

I know I read in another thread that the pressure on the rear sphere's for estates is higher than the saloon but what should it be?

I think I've bought the wrong spheres a little while ago.

I changed the accumulator sphere! I made a mess too, it came weeing out first time i started the engine, the seal i had with the new one was the round type, so i took the old square type one of the old sphere and used that instead!

So how many time do i need to open the bleed valve, i open and close over and over and over and it still hisses! i...

Yeah,

If you have the choice between reusing the original square section seal, and a newly supplied round section one, I'd use the square section seal every time.

It's only a precaution that Citroen recommends replacing the seals with every sphere change (in other words, covering their asses) - in fact the square type last a very long time, and...

Hi All.

Wonder if anyone can help. 2000 HDI Xantia.

Put Heater fan on full this morning to move frost. Turned it down and it just stays full on!! IE it wont turn off at all. The sliding knob does not do anything!

Can anybody tell me the likely cause and what I can do?

Am at present puting the fuse in and out!! Its always really hot, or really...

Just a little aside , while disamntling a Xantia Mk2 at the Scrappie today (Friday14th) I saw the relay fitted by Citroen for the problem encountered by earlier Xantia's. Fitted in steering column shroud, grey in colour.

But strangely enough when doing my Matrix!!!!!!!!!! I don't recall seeing one on my Xantia MK 2 .

Just purchased a another ZX 1.9TD the trouble i got when you first try start the car up from cold it will not fire.

I have recently just given the car a full service (Including new Beru Glow Plugs) I think its had this problem well before i got it but finding the fault is proving difficult.

At slow speed (10-15) and especially with the clutch in, my estate rolls from side to side like a boat on a rough sea! I don't feel it at higher speed although there is a bit of steering wheel wobble. I've checked the trye pressures but they are fine. I am not carrying any uneven loads etc...

At what [point should I have my doors fixed? They look like the weld is failing (cracking around the weld) and the doors do not shut smoothly (they feel and sound like they are connecting part of the door lock mechanism early). Both front doors have a small patch of rust at the top where it looks like they connect with the body...... :?
