407 condenser

Post by moizeau »

Hello again, went to the local citroen garage today for a regas....and he found a leak. The first suspician he had was due to evacuation taking too long. He said that the condenser is the usual fault, put some dye in and you could hear a hiss coming from behind the rad but because it's hidden no sign of the leak. I have a couple of questions.
There is a post on here regarding the easiest way to get the condenser off. Apparently Peugeot say to do it from the engine bay side...lots of dismantling, and the other train of thought is via the front bumper, also a pain but I know how to do this after changing my headlights. What is the consensus of opinion? The next question regards the top and bottom hoses, the bottom one being the problem due to corrosion and it invariably breaks the union? Lastly, on the search for a new condenser I've come across to different sizes that relate to the same OEM part number, could somebody please clarify?

Thanks yet again, it's a good job the FCF don't charge by the post!

6455 FX is the part number Pete or 1610161080 for an 'economy' one!
The 'Core' measurements should be the same as per this diagram (430) from pole to pole - it's just the rad width and length and the fixing heights, so I would measure your old one as per the diagram to see which one you have - there is nothing in the docs I can find - unless Alasdair is still sifting...

Cheers Marc, it was the different width measurements that confused. I would also like to give a big thanks Citroen PATRY in La Chatre that didn't charge me for the above, and he knows I do my own work so he's not hunting for business. NOT a main Stealer, if it hadn't had a leak, they wanted 61 euros for a full regas compared to Peugeot who wanted 100 and the cheapest at 50 is a French version of Quickfit. When it's sorted I'll be back to the main dealer! The parts ordering is superb as well, and they've got a beautiful cx25 gti turbo in the showroom. (POTD)

No probs, but do measure yours Pete as per the diagram, at least you know what they are measuring against now. There are at least 4-5 measurement differences across the different brands. so I can only assume some are not designed to the same specs and they have just used the OEM part number regardless. It’s the major pitfall with these aftermarket suppliers....

Nissens have a good reputation, both radiators and matrixes.

Cheers Chris, I thought I recognised the name, you wouldn't happen to know if access is easier via the rad or bumper would you?

Just an assumption but as the condenser is the furthest forward wouldn't it be easier to get the bumper off for full access to the condenser?
