Sorry Neil but we all have different tastes, I find the whole thing pretty boring. :)

Thanks, I'll give it a go. I watched a similar one on Disney+ recently, set on one of the Canary Islands, called Hierro. Bunch of people murdered on a small island...everybody suspects everybody

I'll need to watch this too as I had an Astra GTE just like that one in my late teens

I was going to say that mine had that pink "red" GM paint of that era too, but it wasn't just that era was it? I've seen mid-2000's Corsas with the same fade :D

Why was their paint so bad?

Worth a watch of the episode. It's a TV entertainment so maybe Derek Mathewson's comments re the paint job were edited in for effect after the event, but the initial polishing job although effective initially, wasn't very long lasting on that particular car :-D

I was just going from my own experience Neil, been there done that many times, it's a common problem on red cars from many makers, cut off the milky film then a good quality wax polish applied regularly will keep it looking pristine.

That's what the Vauxhall dealer told me too

I spent way too many hours t-cutting that thing...it was a cracking little car otherwise but the paint ruined the experience for me. I've never had that on any other brand of car, before or since, although I'm told red 90s Volvos do it too.

The next owner told me it went to the scrapper with terminal rust in 2000, less than 12 years old. Nuff said.

"The Repair Shop" on BBC1 this evening (at 20:00) should be very interesting. Filmed in Autumn 2021 the gentleman who has items to repair is Prince Charles. The trailer shows Jay Blades (the 'leader' of the team) handing Prince Charles a white mug with HRH on it! Steve Fletcher (the clockwork specialist) works on something with bells, but no more is shown in the trailer.

The current episode of Top Gear has a piece on 'micro' cars, and the Citroen Ami was driven by Chris Harris, the Carver was driven by Paddy McGuiness (but I remember the Carver showing up a long time ago with Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson), while Andrew Flintoff was driving the City Transformer CT1. All three cars are electric.

Cross-post from the 'Pickled Egg Quiz' thread:

For those of you who enjoyed season one of Slow Horses on telly, season 2 starts tomorrow on Apple TV+.
Hell Razor5543 wrote: 27 Apr 2022, 19:19 I have just started reading the 'Slough House' series of books by Mick Herron. I became aware of them when Gary Oldman was being interviewed, as he was playing the part of 'Jackson Lamb' (which is an interesting choice, as (in the books) Jackson Lamb is described as a seedy version of Timothy Spall!).

The concept is very simple. Slough House is part of MI5, and where all of the major misfits are sent (it is worse than being sent to Coventry; you might get recalled from Coventry at some time, but NOBODY has ever made it back from Slough House). One left a floppy disk marked 'Top Secret' on a train, another 'lost' a consignment of decommissioned weapons that got recommissioned and ended up back on the streets of London. If it was not possible to fire the 'agent' (and they refused to resign) they were sent to Slough House to rot. Most then get the hint and quit (so are not part of the stories), but some are desperate to get back in favour. Jackson Lamb runs Slough House and is NOT a nice person. Whenever Regents Park (H/O of MI5) need some utterly menial task to be done it gets assigned to Slough House. The 'Slow Horses' (as the denizens of Slough House are known) should never get to do anything meaningful, but sometimes they do. This is where the books come in. The first book is 'Slow Horses'.

Tonight on Channel 4 at 22:00 there will be an unusual programme. "My Dead Body" is about a young mum, Toni Crews, with an unusual cancer (tear duct) who documented her life and then gave her body for medical research and public dissection.

Recognised the "Teesside" accent of one of the managers, handing out doughnuts and checking on progress on the cataloguing for an auction of a large collection of matchbox items.

Looked up Vectis the specialist toy auctioneers and find they have their HQ here

Thornaby Head Office
Vectis Ltd
Fleck Way
Thornaby
TS17 9JZ

Sale on today of model trains :-D
Their story to date
Vectis was established in 1988 by Roger and Jill Mazillius on the Isle of Wight. From the humble beginnings of a shop front and back room, Vectis now occupy an auction site of 30,000 sq feet and a staff of 39!

Bryan Goodall purchased the company in 1996, with a turnover of £600,000 from eight auctions each year offering some 5,000 lots, things have changed and how! The turnover in 2021 was 7 million pounds holding over seventy auctions each year, selling around 47,000 lots!

The list of toys auctioned by Vectis is endless and we sell the following categories - Diecast, Trains, Doll and Teddy Bears, Lead, Plastic, Militaria, Tinplate, TV Related, Star Wars, and General Toys including Games Constructional Toys, Railwayana, Books, Comics and Annuals.

A full colour catalogue is listed online for each auction stating the number of lots, full description of the item, detailing manufacturer, model number (if applicable), colour and condition. An estimated value of the lot is also highlighted; the estimate is based on previous prices achieved through auction. All auctions can be viewed on our website, both past and present.

As expected the arrival of the worldwide web has significantly changed how Vectis run their auctions. Ten years ago there would be one auction per month consisting of around 400 lots, where the room would be full of collectors and dealers. Nowadays we hold six auctions per month with approximately 700 lots each day. All auctions are room sales and all are held live on-line reaching a worldwide clientèle. Bidding can also be made via post, fax or telephone.

Here at Vectis we like to pride ourselves on offering a professional, reliable and friendly service. Whether you have a collection of thousands or just the one model we will be only too pleased to offer you a personal service.
Regards Neil
