Pound shops charity shops and the like seem to be the only ones surviving in town centres, they pedestrianised Gloucester some long time ago, lost C&A, Littlewoods, BHS, Evans and many more, Debenhams is struggling, M&S likewise.

Town centres evolve to constantly to meet current demands - that's why all those traditional chains failed: they existed to serve our parents, or possibly grandparents. A few have adapted/diversified [rather more successfully than M&S - which hasn't really served (or, indeed, had) a purpose for 50 years], Sainsbury's & Sniffs spring imediately to mind AND (bit of a mixed blessing this one) Halfords is reversing the trend & coming in from the cold. Oh, & a bit of an oddity this, my Lidl's of choice is in the High Street!

In our small local town we had a long debacle between the Co-op and Tesco, Tesco planned a new supermarket, Co-op who hold a near monopoly in the district kept objecting and when the council gave permission went to the High Court and had it stopped on various legal arguments about the planning system.

Tesco eventually walked away (although they do have a small Tesco Express in the High Street), the site owners persevered and eventually managed to get permission and the Co-op let it go without further objection.

So now Lidl have acquired the site with ready made permission, subject to conditions, along come Aldi with an application for another supermarket within walking distance, should make interesting reading over the next few months, Germans fighting Germans for territory.

It does seem that where there is a Lidl there is also an Aldi nearby

Urban myth Van, two different families, we had a long debate about it and I checked. I do wonder who bankrolls them, private family businesses with very deep pockets it seems.

Next Thursday (21/03) Lidl are doing a few car bits. Don't be fooled by a couple of the pictures; they have them in the wrong order (so the primary picture for the impact driver is the sockets and spare brushes, for example).

The mix up is with Aldi. There are 2 Aldi's owned by 2 brothers. They both operate in different countries (both don't occupy the same country). They split in 1960 with one becoming Aldi North and the other Aldi south.

Mine doesn't have the Nextbase name but it is the same as that in size and shape, the buttons are all in the same place but marked a bit differently.
