I got a scan tool!

Post by doctle »

Hi Guys
I been looking for a scan tool for a while and this week I bought a Launch Creader. It does engine SRS and ABS. Has anyone any experience of these? It's second hand and the label with the serial number is gone so I can't try to update it. I don't know if its real or a Chinese knock off but it connects to my 207 and at €70 it's just 2 visits to a local mechanic with a scanner.

Can’t speak for those, but if you want proper PSA diagnostics for all PSA, DS & Citroen vehicles, Diagbox software with a Lexia interface (VCI) is the only one that has full compatibility, procedures and live data, as well as recognising all constructor codes.

I have a Linux laptop Marc I'd need to use WINE or Virtual Box to try to run the software. That's slow cumbersome and not all software will run properly. I have been looking on easy diagnostics and I'm tempted to get the proper tool but I'd need to buy a laptop as well I believe the software only runs on XP??

It'll run on Windows 7 as well. Not sure about Win 8 or 8.1 and I'm sure that I've read that Win 10 is troublesome. All have to be 32 bit as, although the later cars that use native Diagbox will be OK on 64 bit, earlier cars will not be served as the earlier components of Diagbox (Lexia and PP2000) won't run in a 64 bit environment.

A suitable laptop would not be expensive. £75 should be enough and £100 will be better.

I couldn't get it (Lexia and Diagbox) to set up on a Dell laptop with Win XP or Win 7, I have it on a Panasonic Toughbook with Win7 but I've not tried it to its full extent yet.

I got a Wurth Snooper off easydiagnostics and Jim set it up for me on the Dell via Teamviewer, that seems to work ok on the C5 but again I've not used it to the full, only run a global scan which showed up one fault code for the FAP tank sensor which I've ignored for now until the weather improves.

Forget Wine, there isn't a version that will work, and as for virtualbox - I really would not recommend it at all, a VM is difficult to troubleshoot and USB comms can be troublesome.

Windows 8 and 8.1 is fine and so is Windows 10 these days, but stick to a 32 bit version for legacy compatibility for your car.

I could dual boot my computer with windows 10 I made a backup when I got it then installed Linux and invalidated the guarantee. It has been working perfectly for 2 years but it's 64 bit anyway. I suppose it would run 32 bit software? the UEFI thing could be problematic on 32 bit. Might spend some ale money on an old laptop

I believe that the Lexia software does not work on Windows 10 (regardless of bit width). I am running mine on a Toshiba NB250 netbook with 2GB RAM (using Windows 7).

You can't invalidate a PC warranty guarantee by installing a new OS if that's what you meant there.

A 64 Bit Windows OS will run 32 bit software, but Peugeot Planet 2000 and Lexia are legacy software versions that are written in 16 bit code that will NOT run natively under a 64 bit OS. It will need a VM running a 32 Bot OS to run - but as stated already, not recommended.

It makes sense to use a dedicated laptop for diagnostics, don't get anything less than a 2 GHz and Gb of RAM (bear in mind that although just over 3 Gb can be used by a 32 Bit Windows OS, some laptops use some RAM fro the video graphics), so also try and get one with some dedicated graphics that isn't shared with the OS.

Yes, it will install on Windows 10 32 bit OS if the installation procedure is followed James.

Ah, then that has changed. I can recall that (when running Diagbox on my system) I was getting a clear message NOT to upgrade to Windows 10!

My car's running good so I've been reluctant to mess too much with it, I suppose what I really need is someone expert in the use of the diagnostics kits to demonstrate their use.

I've been in the game all my life I've never needed, even with the latest computerised cars, the use of the kit and so far never been stuck for an answer to a problem
