Lexia making me want to tear my hair out.

Post by tomjyoutwit »

Good afternoon all, hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

I have borrowed a Lexia cable off of a friend who was using it with Diagbox on a 64bit machine, so it was no good for my C2.

I have dug out an old HP Laptop and installed Windows 7 32 bit (XP was giving me far too much trouble.)

I have installed Diagbox and got in to it a few times- but now it seems to get stuck on 'Installing Internet Updates' which it gets to the end of and just hangs (the wifi is off).

My major issue is I can not get Lexia to find my car, I got as far as Diagbox pulling off my car's VIN number and offering me Lexia which then promptly told me the communication module was not inserted. I've never managed to get the Lexia box to have a green light on it which I believe shows that everything is working.

What am I doing wrong? I can't seem to work it out and as a last resort i'm going to see if I can get it working on a friend's C1 tomorrow as I'm at my wits end!

Could anyone please advise?

Best wishes
Tom

Tom, what version of Diagbox have you installed? Open Diagbox and look at the top right corner for version.
Next, always decline any updates when it offers to do so - never let it try to update.

Thanks for the quick reply. 7.02.

It tries to update everytime I open Diagbox, but as I've not connected the computer to the internet I don't know what it's doing.

ALWAYS click no on connectivity/updates and turn off the networking/wifi on the laptop.

So i've got 7.57 running on my virtual box but nothing seems to be coming through on Leixa- how can I tell on the car that the OBD has been successfully plugged in?

The green light not working certainly suggests there is an issue between the box and the PC. I would see what happens when the Lexia is plugged into a normal PC.

Check the USB driver in Device Manager?

Ok, so you have 7.57, that will do fine.

Ensure that when you installed it you did so running as an Administrator - as sometimes the drivers may not install. Plug in the USB from the cable into each USB port and allow the drivers to install. My concern is that there are additional problems running this software in a VM. It can cause problems passing through the USB connections.....

So i've just been out and checked a few things (cold out tonight).

I'm convinced the fuses are mixed up in my car, the manual does not match what I am seeing in front of me, could that be an issue?

This is as far as Lexia would let me go tonight, I also had to enter my own VIN which makes me think there is no communication.

I have found that, if the ignition is off when you fire up the Lexia (when you select the vehicle, etc.) you have to enter the VIN and RPO. However, if the ignition is on when you select the vehicle it will ask you if the VIN it found is correct, and then ask you for the RPO.

The second picture you posted is not uncommon. Sometimes it will clear after a couple of attempts, while on other occasions it requires a complete reboot of the computer. Just one of those things.

Not necessarily - I do know that the C2 had some variations of their fuse boxes and these never matched up with the service documentation! Just to help matters of course.

Re that error - you have to agree to it and follow instructions - but it may hang and of course you'll have to task manager out of it.

Also, make sure the Windows Update service is stopped in SERVICES, as that is VERY resource intensive, plus ensure any anti virus is disabled for the session. Again the Virtual Box adds another layer of complexity in fault finding to an already quirky bit of software.

Would I need to start it with the engine running or just in the notch before turnover?

What I am doing at the moment is having the PC off, car off and plugging in the USB and OBD. Turn the ignition on the the final phase before start up and then firing up the laptop and lexia.

Also, its a C2 design if that helps with the fuses!
Anyway i'm off down the pub- wasted a whole day on this!

Just with the ignition on. Then (as the ECUs are up and running) the Lexia (when it stops throwing the 'card' error) will be able to get two way communications with them.

No - you need to fire up the laptop, disable windows update, load up Diagbox, wait for that to load. Select the marque, the the model and it should ask to plug the VCI in. Switch the ignition on. If it won’t select the VIN, it may ask for it and the RPO.

Post your VIN here if you need that.

It should ask you to switch the ignition off and in again later when running a Global Test.

Did you check device manager or that the USB ports are allowing communication through the VM?

So when asked to connect the VCI, I did, but then after running diagnosis all the dialogues returned 'No' which makes me think that Lexia is not communicating with the car (also no green light on the unit)
