Interface not recognized... :-(

Post by idjundje »

Hy

I have problem with my interface. Everything was fine and worked perfectly until I installed Scan XL pro 3.5.1 and Touch Scan 2.16.3 for other interface (OBD)

Now when I plug interface USB to computer green light flashes for two to three seconds and I get message on the computer that usb is not recognized, and the green light disappears..
On Interface is label A.1281Z, and when was worked I know that on PSA Interface on version was 4.3.5 and on reference serial was writing 921815 C.

I tried change USB – RS232 cable, and connect interface on several computer but always was same (green ligh flashes for two to three seconds and I get message on the computer that usb is not recognized.), I try on windows xp, windows 7, windows 8 and windows 10 (all windows are on x86), then I tried on friends computer because he has installed diagbox 8.02 and his interface is working, but my interface does not even work on his computer, same thing..

I read on the internet now that it is possible that the interface is bricked, so now I dont understand what that means and i do not know how to repair him..

Please help me how can I repair interface, what must ?

First thing I would do is check your VCI - if it's out of warranty nowm then nothing to lose by opening it up. I would check all the pins of the VCI as it is well-known that these can become loose or the solder joints are weak.

I tried all this week, but every attempt was unsuccessful.

Here's the video with lexia where the interface lights up and then disappears and from the windows where you can see how the usb was not found (recognized) , and with the images of the interface and the window (device manager)..

Please, can someone know how to repair it?

What version of XP are you running? 32 or 64 Bit?
When installing the software, you must 'Run as Administrator' (even if you are the administrator).
Turn off any antivirus / Windows defender software.
Allow ALL Firewall requests (which will usually appear when installing and when plugging in the USB cable to the laptop.
Until you get the drivers installed, the laptop can't communicate with the VCI.

I am running windows 7 (32 bit).
I am Administrator
Everything is disabled (antivirus, firewall)

If you read first post, that happen (interface stop working on my computer and all others computer where i try) when I installed Scan XL pro 3.5.1 and Touch Scan 2.16.3 for other interface (OBD), so error is with Interface, not windows...

I'm no good at advising on this but wasn't there something about the USB ports needing to have some work to get them to connect to the VCI ?

Bit that's got nothing to do with it - using other software and hardware is completely different!
Each piece of hardware has specific software drivers for that unique interface. They will be different USB drivers for the Lexia VCI than the other interface you used - so don't confuse the issues.

As for the Firewall - no point disabling it - it should be enabled and the requests allowed each time when asked during installation.
Next - read my answer carefully - it does not matter if you are an administrator - you should always right click the setup of Diagbox and choose 'Run as Administrator'.
You might not think these are important, but they can make a difference.

So am I correct in assuming you are not running this in a Virtual Machine too?

Some other things - make sure that on your laptop you have disabled the power saving features for the USB ports (advanced power settings). This can switch off power from the USB ports and stop the interface working.

You can also try to reinstall the drivers manually - search the programme folder for the following:

Actiapnpinstaller.exe

and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR!

This should manually install the drivers - then plug in the USB cable and see if it is now detected by windows.

I install Actiapnpinstaller.exe and now is in Device manager found ACTIA usb devices, but when I plug usb interface, same thing (device is still like on first video, still dead), but now my friend come to me with his interface and when we plug his interface into computer immediately founded and worked (we change my usb cable to his interface, and worked), so it is not usb cable and windows, so error is for sure with interface...

Great, at least you have the driver issue sorted. :-D

Did you check all the pins and joins on the board - especial;ly where the cable enters the interface - they do come loose quote often which a bot of soldering can sort.

I don't think there is much else we can do:

Your installation seems fine - or you friend's VCI would not work
Your USB cable seems fine as it worked on your friend's VCI

So that leaves your interface as faulty. Again - I can only suggest pins / wires, or it has a fault component on the board.
