What a drag!

Post by Gibbo2286 »

Easy Diagnostics new website, anyone else finding it all but impossible to use?

I can get in from my desktop reasonably well but my laptop takes so long to get to the log in page up then more hanging about waiting for the next step. :(

I paid to join as a gold member but not sure now if was worth it.

Just tried it with desktop (Linux Mint 18,3 Sylvia/Firefox) and one of the laptops (Linux Mint Debian/Firefox) also Chromium on both machines and no issues whatsoever.

Try clearing your cache on the laptop or even run a cleaner (CCleaner or Bleachbit).

Unfortunately that will be down to several factors - a few examples:
  • How the website is configured and its capacity and speed
  • The content of the website - large images and background content can take longer to load
  • Your own own computer specs / memory / processor
  • Your internet connection type and speed
Best to inform Jim at 'Easy' - drop them an email, as I'm sure any feedback they gets will be used to improve things and if they aren't aware, they won't think there's an issue. At least they can rule out whether it is a general issue or a local to you issue.

My laptop has been newly reloaded with Windows 7 and all caches cleared, ran CCleaner etc., Jim says the same, he's run with a variety of browsers without any problem, maybe it's my Panasonic Toughbook or IE 11 that's the offender.

I'll put Chrome on and see if that works any better, at the moment it takes a minute or more for the pointer arrow to change to the pointer finger to move from page to page and then goes nowhere, in the meantime the wallpaper in the background keeps changing scenes.

ps. I'm on Faster Fibre at around 40MBPS so that shouldn't be a problem.

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Firefox - completely normal
Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Chromium - completely normal
Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia on a different laptop (Zoostorm)
Firefox - normal but marginally slower loading.
Chromium - as above so probably machine dependent.

Image

Running a bit slower now - a desktop, three laptops and BTTV running though, multiple browsers on all the computers too.

What are the specs of your laptop Gibbo?
Make & Model / Serial number or service tag code (if available) - that might help me see what you have there...

If it's a newly installed OS - then I suspect you probably have a thousand Windows Updates to apply - and Windows Update can be very resource hungry and slow everything dowsn whilst it is doing its stuff. How much RAM have you got installed?

The windows updates are all done Marc 190+ of them.

The laptop's not too special spec. Panasonic Toughbook CF-Y5L

60Gb HDD
1.5 Gb memory
Intel Core Duo CPU L2400 @ 1.66Ghz
Mobile Intel 945 Express chip set family.

1.5 Gb of RAM is all it's able to take by the look of it.

There's your problem Gibbo.

This model came out back in 2006 - and was designed for Windows XP - a lightweight unit and will struggle today. The memory will certainly be a problem with Windows 7 - it will barely be enough to load the OS, as Widows 7 requires a minimum of 1Gb to load.

The video memory only has 128 Mb, so that will struggle to load graphics and on top of that, the main memory also allocates some of the 1536 Mb (1.5Gb) to the display which is non-user configurable. The system will really struggle to do anything by today's standards Gibbo.

I think this is the one:

I've got 2 of a similar spec in the barn, if you're intent on using it go back to XP, less memory required to do basics. Good as a Diag machine, checking emails, basic googling and a glorified MP3 player, though phones will do that better now, apart from the Diag!

Yes Marc that's the one...………….same age as my C5 :)

Moz, I had thought about going back to XP, I only want it for the Diagbox, I'll give it a try. Strangely enough it works fine on every other site I go to, Barclays, the BBC and my share dealing site, only have the 'swimming through treacle' problem on Easy D

If it doesn't work out I'll pop it on Ebay and look for a better one.

My place is getting to look like a second hand shop, my desktop (built it myself) a Dell laptop with the software for my other diag gadget, the WOW Snooper, which does work but everyone on here says maybe not for PSA cars and an Acer Iconia 10 tablet for which I have little use.
