You will need to get the confidential customer code from your dealer - after showing relevant proof of ownership and ID.

The keys will not need reprogramming as a rule - unless you are replacing a faulty one with a new key and then of course you must programme all the keys to be used in one session, or any not programmed will be locked out.

It is more likely that the keys need re-synchronising which can happen once all the 255 offset limits have been reached (when the remote is used out of range for example).

I would try that first of all - this usually involves putting the key in the ignition turning, the ignition on and holding in one of the locking buttons for 5-10 seconds, then removing the key, repeat with the other key if you have one, waiting 30 seconds, then try locking / unlocking the vehicle and starting it.

In light of that important extra info which you've just mentioned - of course that will affect the operation, so you'll need a new key fob as the transponder has likely been damaged - reprogramming won't do anything. The transponder, if damaged, won't send a signal and therefore the transponder receiver has nothing to send to the BSI.

You'll need to ensure the fob you get is compatible - they operate at different frequencies and transmission encoding - so ensure you get the right one.

Looks won't cut it - they need to have the correct circuitry and transmission protocols. Best check with the Renault parts people first to get the correct part number for your SPECIFIC car (they can do that from the VIN) and then that will at least give you the right part to search on if going for an aftermarket fob - but there are loads of incidents where these simply don't work.

Unfortunately, I don’t really deal with Renault cars, and don’t have access to their parts system, so can’t get you the details of the fob itself. But it’s a good place to start from. The frequency has to be the same, so that’s a good start! :-D

Shawn

Have a look at this link - they say they can supply the 12 digit immobiliser pin code for programming the keys for £18 - got to be worth a punt and a lot cheaper than the $9k dollars you were quoted!

http://www.car-keys-online.com/product/ ... rafic.html

You can upload the relevant proof easily using their website and they send the code via email.

The windings on the tube (arrowed) can be bought separately shawn; obviously I can't tell what part you think you damaged, but they are certainly available. All these do is to absorb the energy from the electromagnetic field generated by the transponder coil in the ignition in order to power the chip and send the code.
