XUD Dipstick Length

Post by Pug_XUD_KeenAmateur »

Am I correct in thinking that there are two lengths of Dipstick for the XUD?

One for the alloy AC Sump, t'other for the steel Sump....

I have the AC Sump fitted, but I want to swap it for a steel one in the course of a number of upcoming works. Do I need a new Dipstick to get a true 'level'?

Surprised not to find a topic about this in searching Archive posts, maybe there is only one length.

(Car is ex-AC, so 'ex Serpentine'. Has been minus Condenser and AC Pump since an accident required a new front end in 2014, I sourced a non-AC one - Ooops! ....with the PAS Pump on the 'big bracket' above the Alternator. I've been waiting for suitable required maintenance to simplify everything and that day looks to be coming soon)

For the 405 XUD9TE the dip stick is the same for AC / Non AC - part 117293 (LONG INT 500) from parts. But it would help with a VIN despite the changes you've mentioned as I'll be able to rule out the non applicable ones.

Thanks Marc, the VIN's VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Suspect un-necessary though, should simply be a matter of retaining the current Dipstick.

Would quite build date on it if you do go into Servicebox / whatever and that's easily available while you're there :-D

You’re 2 short in the VIN, that’s only 15, should be 17 in length.

If I understand you correctly, you would like the build date?

All dipstick measurements for a given engine MUST be taken from the top of the dipstick tube to the High/Max mark. This is the only dimension that properly fixes the correct oil level.

As some of our dipsticks can suffer dintegrated/broken tops, it would be a good project for us to compile a list of engine-dipstick lengths, for sticks with a plastic top. Something that members with intact dipsticks could easily contribute to. This problem is not uncommon on XM.

510mm as per the picture you posted is exactly what is quoted on both the ones for the XUD9TE with and without A/C. So looks ike you have the right one.

Ooh, yes, this is interesting. Last time I pulled the stick on the Xantia, the top came apart and the seal slid along the stick. I'm concerned that it may disintegrate further and fall through the filler cap into the sump, as well as no longer being accurate for measuring levels. I'm sure, if still available, these must be quite affordable, but I have yet to get around to looking for one.
I'll dig out a VIN and pop it up and, when there's time, perhaps Marc might tell me what to ask for. It would be very useful if there's a Peugeot part number, as we have a couple of Peugeot dealers nearby, but not a Citroen one.

A dipstick-top repair, after the yellow top crumbled. You'll recognise the Hozelock/Gardena part, no doubt, with a ½"BSP blanking cap added...

The critical distance from tube top to High mark was preserved.

Peugeot / Citroen - they are all the same and use the same parts system - you can order from wither of them and prices will be the same.

Let me know the VINs for the models - unless you are going for Chris's knockoff Hozelock lookalike solution :-D

Hi Marc
Mine is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I can't do the Hozelok mod, because my dipstick has come adrift in the remains of the plastic top, so the length has been lost.
Thanks a million for this kind of help.

Thanks Marc re both your posts there, for the confirmation that its correct and yes, I'd like a build date please.

.... albeit its only a 'curiosity', not of any great importance, so only if its nice n quick n simple to look up.

Must've mis-typed my VIN in the previous post, its VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Great idea re Dipstick lengths Database Chris, partic as I'm sure there'll be some interchangeability for those that are harder to come by.

Re: XUD Dipstick Length

Ok, so from the VIN you have supplied - IGNORE my previous post (another reason why the VIN is so important), as that is a completely different part.

The dipstick for your 405 with that VIN is the same as I posted up for Sparksie, namely part number: 117415, same cost and length - so NOT 500 mm as in my last post which was for the earlier pre-restyled 405.

So for clarification, the correct one for your 405 is:

Part number: 117415
526 MM Length
£15.38 Inc. VAT from the dealer

The one in your original photos would be 26 mm too short.
