207 engine oil grade

Post by doctle »

Hi Guys
I just got a 207 1.4 HDi no DPF. It needs a service. I always used Castrol 10w40 in my 307 changed every 5k miles. I assume the 207 has the same engine and will be fine on 10w40. I checked on a couple of sites and they listed everything from 10w40 to 0w40 super expensive oil. What is the view of you guys? Thanks

Total Quartz Diesel 7000 10W40 is the recommended oil for your car for UK / Irish climates

Thanks Marc thats a lot cheaper than the 0w40 oil. I have one final issue the airbag light comes on and off. I checked under the seats and the wires under the drivers seat are taped up and there is a plug under the passenger seat. I'm wondering if I should join the wires on the passenger side?7

I'd be a bit cautious about connecting any wires up without knowing which ones they are. They may of course be the underseat lighting for the footwell lighting - but may not be in use if your car doesn't have that kit - or again could be for seatbelt pretensioners etc.

It would help if you took some pictures of the wires - where they are coming from and going to - it might help us identify them.

The BSI should record the fault and it should be in the log for the number of times it occurred.

If it’s going to have a sods law moment and not do it at the dealer, just leave the ignition off for a few minutes and then try again to see if the light comes on. It should come on initially and then go out as the system self checks itself, but if it stays on then there is a fault. But they should be able to pick it up.

So I brought the car to a local mechanic but he can't scan it until Tuesday apparently he's on the top of his head but I'll wait as the scan is €30. Meantime I will attempt a coolant change can't do too much harm doing that!
