207 Daytime Running Lights

Post by RussellF97 »

My 207SW doesn't have them and thinking they are a pretty good idea I plan to fit some. Plan A is to hang them from the large plastic moulding that runs transversely across the grille.
So my questions are: Has anyone fitted drls to a 207? Did you run into any unforseen problems? If you have fitted some, where did you fit yours?

Is it for safety? Like a bike? Then turn your headlights/sidelights on.

If you are retro-fitting DRLs a couple of things to be aware of:

a) They need to be bright enough in the daylight / sun to be seen by others (or what's the point of having them).
b) Assuming they are bright enough, they must also go into low power dimmed mode or automatically switch off at night so they do not dazzle other drivers or you could end up causing an accident.

So I suggest you need to get a proper kit - which will explain how to wire them in so that they will automatically dim or turn off when your headlights come on.

moizeau: of course it's for safety - sidelights are worse than useless in sunlight and I don't necessarily want to use my headlights 24/7.

GiveMeABreak: I will definitely be using a proper kit. I'm looking at the Ring lights BRL0397/0398...

That seems to have the switching kit, so would seem so do the job.

OSRAM do some kits similarly priced too:

Just get some decent LED sidelight bulbs. Not illegal and much better than the standard dim candles.
