Just a thought James, I’m sure you’re really pleased with the new car, and I can see you have plenty on the ‘To Do’ list. Just noting what you have said about limp mode..... Personally, if it was me, I would focus energies and your shekels on getting that diagnosed and fixed first, before spending out in bearings TBH.

I wouldn’t want you to be shelling out on those areas if you potentially have an engine fault. 👍

When she was at PTS getting the radiator replaced I also asked them to have a look as to why she was going into limp mode. They did look with their equipment, and there were no error codes that would be indicative of limp mode. My reasoning about the filters is that she is showing over 12,000 to the next service interval, but the oil level is just above the minimum level point (that could suggest that somebody just reset the counter to make her look better). Anyway, changing the filters and oil cannot do her any harm, and may well do her a power of good.

I saw this car today, it's in very nice nick for its age and what James paid for it.

I've nicknamed it "Shagger" as the rear arm bearings sound like an old bed with an active young couple in....

Well, I have yet to drive her, but it is fair to say that the air and fuel filters were NOT less than 500 miles old! The air filter was very sooty (as were my hands afterwards), while the fuel filter was black (except at the seam). I revved her up afterwards, and she does go over 3,000RPM. We shall see what happens when I take her out this evening. It goes without saying that she will have an oil change in the near future, when circumstances permit.

Can anybody show me which relay is responsible for the heated rear windscreen? The windscreen is not heating up, and (as I am going to the scrap yard tomorrow morning) it has got to be worth a shot checking/replacing the relay.

I would imagine it's in the BSI, James.
Have you checked the relevant fuses and switch?

The fuse is sound, and I plugged it in and out a few times, just in case dirt had built up on the contacts. Oh, well, another thing to get PTS to look at then.

Check the heating element on the rear windscreen - over zealous cleaning or age can cause a break in the thin heating element. It may be difficult to see though, so a multimeter will come in handy to see if there is power supplied or not. If there is power you may have to test the screen printed circuit that is basically resistors to see if there is a break or not.

Several videos on testing this. Here's one on an older car, with the repair kit.



There are repair kits where you can 're-paint' the circuit to repair it if this is the case.

There are other situations where it may not be switched on by the BSI. What is the VIN for your new C5?

When she was at PTS I asked them also to check it. They found there was no power going to it, hence my hope about a relay. I really DON'T want a wiring issue!
