Is it just the mirror glass you want to replace?

Well, the glass mirror and mounting. The fairing, etc., are undamaged.

This is what I have ordered;

I seem to remember they just pull off and pop/push back on.. that could just be me using brute force again though. In any case doesn't matter if you break the one coming off.. you'll be able to see how it fits then

In the photo on the ebay ad, you can just make out the loops at the end of the spring clip (at about 4 o-clock on the plastic ring). If you adjust the mirror to be pointing towards the centre of the the car and up, you should be able to reach those loops and lever them outwards to release the glass.

Thanks, so they will be at the eight o'clock position when on the car.

You just gently lever off the glass with a flat blunt tool at position 1 - there's a clip. When refitting make sure the spring clip is correctly located back on the new glass and then snap it back into place.

Thanks for your help so far gents. It is likely I will be asking for more, but I think this C5 has a lot going for her, so I want to get her right again.

I had to change the external temp sensor on one of mine and managed to do it without ruining anything so if you get stuck give me a shout.

Got the new mirror, but it does not have the circular spring clip (I will grab that off the old one when I remove it, assuming it fits). Something else astounding about the 'new' car is that she has both of her security cards, un-scratched!!!

My right hand one that I had broken recently was replaced with a self adhesive glass just pressed onto the broken one, it's fine except that it needs wiping before I set off if it's been raining,

The left side one was completely destroyed when I clipped a wheelie bin with it and replaced with a complete Ebay buy. Simple enough to do but would be easier if the connection on the wiring wasn't right down in the door and needing the removal of the door trim to get at it.

The new mirror is not a self adhesive unit, but looks a lot like the one in Marcs' diagrams. All it is missing is that circular spring clip.

Right, well, the mirror is fitted (it just clips in, there was no spring clip on the old mirror), and she has also relieved me of around £220, due to a leaking radiator. When I was driving her down from Sheffield I pulled over to eat, and when we tried to head back out she complained about the coolant. I had to use still spring water, and (a couple of days later) she also drank some deionised water. However, PTS spotted some bubbling from the bottom of the radiator, that has been replaced (and proper coolant added), and there are no other signs of leaks. All I can now hope for is that, prior to my ownership, she has not been allowed to overheat.

PTS also did check to see why she went into limp mode, but I had cleared the codes a couple of days earlier, and on the journey there she was fully responsive (I got her to 4,000RPM a couple of times without a hiccup), but on the journey back she threw a hissy fit or two. However, there were no error codes. I intend to do a basic service (oil and engine filters), just to see if that will help.

I have now got a replacement blower control module (with replacement wiring), and the first thing I did was to check the load bearing solder joins. They all looked like the dull side of aluminium foil. Well, they did, but now they all look nice and shiny. I still have to fit it, but I will not mount it into place until I do a basic test. I hope I don't have to replace the connectors, but I also have some proper Servisol contact cleaner. Fingers crossed the weather is good tomorrow.

The old module definitely has failed. I have redone the solder joints, but that did not fix it. Still, the new one (with better soldering) has the blower working, and she also has better headlight bulbs fitted. There are a few little jobs to do (I have GOT to replace the air and fuel filters; I think that is why she occasionally goes into limp mode, she will also get an oil change, when time allows), and there are a couple of things I will get professionally done (rear arm bearings, and I think the front bushes need help). Still, she is getting better, and worth the effort.
