My Mk1 did have a DMF.

Aviva have made an offer which I have accepted. Now all I have to do is to get myself a replacement. I did ask Aviva if they could do this for me, but they informed me that they have to make the pay-out to the owner of the vehicle involved, and not a third party. I don't know if this is their internal policy, or something the insurance companies have to do. However, they have also told me that, should I require a courtesy vehicle while I am getting a replacement they will provide it. If I take them up on that it will be to go and look/try/purchase the replacement car (and, as the courtesy vehicle is though Enterprise, it should not be an issue dropping it back in).

Noooo. Get something that won't potentially empty your wallet.... I know how much work you had done on your previous C5 and how much you spent on it. Imagine having to do all that again.. arm bearings, electrics, air con.. missing plastics, etc etc.

I love Citroens but I don't regret buying the Octavia one bit. I've done 2000 miles in it since we picked it up. I've checked the oil and tyres and filled the washers up a few times. I do nothing at all to it! It's actually relaxing not having to think about it.

If she hadn't been shunted I expected her to last for a few more years, hopefully without any major issues. OK, I have that ahead of me, regardless of what vehicle I get. I like the Citroen quirkiness, and the comfort of the ride. Yes, I may well have to go through all the major stuff again (I would rather not, but wishes, beggars, horses, etc), but I have the resources (Lexia, and so on) to keep things simple.

That is a great post Hell Razor :)
My C5 X7 is sat in my drive going nowhere, it has issues that i cannot throw money in "fix it at all cost" mode but i needed a car to get me to work and back so i went for something i knew and could fix if things go wrong and like you i guess they will.
Take as much time as you are allowed in terms of the courtesy car, it has to be what is right for you at the end of the day, i had a 1998 Focus that cost me £600 and ran it for 18 months, did what it had to do,then i bought my boys C4 and had been using it until the C5 spat the dummy :)

OK, well, the old king is dead, long live the new king!

Copart have collected my old C5, but not before I could transfer a couple of parts to the new one (cruise control stalk, auto rear mirror, engine bay covers). The new C5 is very closely related to my old one (she was made in the same factory 4 days later!). They (trade) wanted £650, but as the blower module had quit (looks like it needs replacing; I re-did the solder joins but nothing. The fuse in the engine bay is ok.), and the two front tyres were so bald they made Yul Bruner look hirsute! they dropped the price by £150. Same tax bracket, insurance group, and so on. I got a pair of part worn tyres on her to get her home, but I will get them replaced in the New Year (after the major spending spree!).

There are things that need doing, but she has had a far easier life than the last on. Less than 124,000 miles, bodywork and interior looks good, and (wow) she still has her engine bay undertray! I have already made good a few things (driver door switches cleaned, lights in display unit replaced, just little things), but there is more to do. She is going into limp mode, but that, I think, is due to an exhaust gas error. I will get done that I can do, and get PTS to do the rest. I think the brakes are just down to lack of use (last taxed July 2018), as the rears were very brown. They are now getting nice and silvery.

In the process of a claim myself at the moment. The bump was reported a week ago on Monday, i sent photos in on Thursday, it was Tuesday before they collected the car. I get a courtesy car for the duration of the repairs, but have to wait untill the repair is approved before I get it. If the car is written off I dont get a courtesy car. Needless to say I dont have either a courtesy car or any indication if mine is a write off yet.

It is an estate. You know that the C5 could have reversing sensors, Lexi? If you were to get all the right Citroen bits (say, off a scrapper) and fit them, all you would then need to do is to configure them in via a Lexia. While I don't have parking sensors I do have the cruise control stalk, and all I had to do (once I fitted the stalk) to activate it was to tell her she had the stalk, and to remember it.

I know that when the insurance company make a first offer you should not accept it, but try to bump them up a bit. However, I also had looked on Autotrader, ebay, and Gumtree at similar C5s and worked out the average. The insurance company offered me a lot more than the average (less than £1,000, but not a lot less), so I just accepted it. After buying the new C5 I still have a decent amount of change left over (OK, if she needs professional work that will go, but for what she is like she should be worth it).

How easy is it to replace the off side wing mirror (in other words, how do you)? It has a crack across it, but the housing is clean and intact.
