Hello People,
New to the Forum, not new to Citreons.
My current car is a 2008 C5 2.0HDI Exclusive.
I have just posted My failed steering rack in the failed components section.
All happy now that i have replaced the steering rack with a reconditioned one.
My past french cars include a fantastic Peaugot 505 2.0STI Auto
A 1.9tdi xantia written off when the bonnet opened at 70mph.
and many very fine Citroen XMs 3 x 2.1td hatch and 1 x 2.5 td estate.
The C5 drives as a Citroen should.
Gary.

Hi and welcome Gary
Plenty of X7 owners here for company. The rack as I'm sure you've now come to realise is a major failing on the X7, Some of us are trialling a mod of a tie rack boot over the pinion shaft to try and prevent water ingress onto the shaft that causes the corrosion and seal failure. Very topical at the moment having just replaced mine for the third time!

OOH a white XM,My last but one was a white 2.1 auto lovely car, used to hiss at me now and then but ultra reliable.
On the point of the input shaft,I reasoned that it might be rusty rain water running into the seal and so causing it to leak??
So i cleaned the shaft with thinners and gave it two coats of smooth metal paint, to lessen the chance of Rusty water forming.
anyway time will tell.
Third time,My god that is disgracful.
I would consider trying to fit an input shaft from a pre face lift model, when you compare them they look similar ,just that the feed pipes might be in a different place. in the issue of LHM intended oil seal working with LDS I don'think there would be a problem. I was reading on the aussiefrogs website that someone had mistakingly used LHM in place of LDS and suffered no ill effects, I wouldn't use it intentionally.
anyway thanks for the replies chaps.
