We followed a spritely red 405 Estate for a good few km yesterday. What a fabulous amount of glass above the waistline these had!

They didn't actually use those "bathing machines" when the sea was running like that.

How do I know? My grandfather was responsible for the ones at Woolacombe & he left it a bit late bringing them in one Autumn, there was a storm that night - leaving him with matchwood scattered over a large area & several sets of castiron wheels; his employer, the redoubtable Miss Chichester, was NOT amused!

I did come across this pair as an aside to information on The Purple MGF mentioned in the Classics and Favourite Car Colours threads.

Could be a whatsthisthen?, but maybe a little tricky seeing as they never made it into production.

No one got anything to add to our Great escape knowledge?

Either the actual great escape, or the film version.
Imcdb has its list of cars and bikes, although some doubt about the exact model of Triumph hilts did his bike acrobatics with.

I went to Zagan 15-20 years ago in the off-chance there was something commemorating Tom, Dick, or Harry.... but found nothing but woodland, and the remanats of the camp slowly being consumed by the forest :?

Oh - and apparently the motorbike that Steve McQueen escaped on hadn't been designed or built then !!

Unsurprisingly the Opel Blitz of FCF OTCL fame also made numerous appearances in the film.

Ask 100 people..which country did the great escapers escape from? And 99 including me would have ignorantly said Germany!i

PS. I find out that Zagan is twinned with Duns in the Scottish Borders. Now IKnow that there is an odd statue of Bear in Duns.....with links to Poland

Yes the bear is Wojtek
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 17 Apr 2017, 09:31 The photographer who took the picture of Glen Docherty and Loch Maree Jim Barton, also took the images below. I have been to Duns many times but have never taken the time to notice the bear or read the story. The same bear is honoured in Princess Street Gardens in Edinburgh which I have probably been through hundreds of times and never noticed either.

So here we go Wojtek the bear.....take a bow...you've made it to POTD!, and should any FCF members visit Edinburgh or Duns prepare yourself to be patted!
