I am not sure that I understand your request, but if you are asking if you can download your own backup copy of a forum topic, then I think that the answer is no, because no-one has whitten the software to do that. The nearest that I know of is FUPS: http://creativeandcritical.net/fups but that is not easy to set up, and I am not sure that it would do exactly what you want (I have not tried it myself).

Seems like if you "simply" change the [ img][ /img] format to [ url][ /url] for images on photobucket in forum posts, you don't get the error message (presumably because you go to the Photobucket site to see the image and hence look at their adverts).

Very much alters the presentation of a thread and you have to click on the link to see the image but for the moment looks like it would preserve the link from the post to the image.

I am sure it would be quite straightforward to alter all [ img] "middle bit" [ /img] to [ url] "middle bit" [ /url] with a simple bit of automated editing en masse. The logical selection would be where "middle bit" includes "photobucket".

Just an idea, maybe mine just worked because I did it on my own stuff.

Regards Neil

I am having trouble formatting the phrase [ url ] [ /url ] to get it to appear in the text above...you know what I mean though I hope. looks like I have found a way...

Thanks Mike, I'll get on with it the slow way.

That is correct, but don't bother editing your posts, as our solution will leave

the images in-line.

If you use the code button (the 5th formatting button from the left), then you can show control characters/words without substitution.

As a result, they have now locked all hosted images unless you upgrade to a paid account. This means that for users who have previously added image links from Photobucket from basic / free accounts, your image will now have been replaced with the following picture:

I literally just moved from Dropbox to Photobucket a few weeks ago because Dropbox removed their Public folder function. Now I have to move again....

And I use it across many forums as some forums don't have an adequate photo upload feature. GRR...

Hi Simon, if you've re-linked the images in your posts to PB, can you leave them in situ until Mike has had a chance to convert them to FCF hosting. If successful, the images will remain intact on the Forum, then you can move them at will from PB if you want. That would be a great help.

We have now downloaded about 20,000 image files from photobucket which were previously used as in-line images in FCF forum posts. We have not downloaded images which were only given as links in posts.

In a few days time we should be adding an extension to the forum software which will allow all of those images to become visible again, by redirection to our backup copies.

I would prefer that everyone refrains from editing image links in existing posts until this is complete.

Sorry Mike thats not totally clear to me.

Does it mean we all need to do nothing and the photo bucket hosted images will be converted to FCF hosted images?

Does this apply to images that are in folders set to private as well?

If it does then well done Admins, that was a lot faster than I anticipated.

For the avoidance of doubt - does your miracle working extend to PB images used in Private Messages ?

If you mean private folders on your Photobucket account then No - Only images that have been publicly shared and embedded within Forum posts as I understand it James.

I would suspect not as Private Messages are supposed to be private and members would expect their PMs to remain that way, but Mike will no doubt confirm this.

I had not thought of images in private messages. I have not scanned that part of the database for image links. I will think about it after the posted images solution is working, but I am not sure that it would worthwhile.

I have to agree that I'm not entirely sure it's worthwhile. There's a good chance a lot of the images sent in PMs would be deleted anyway as the mailboxes need semi-regular housekeeping and cleaning out. I would guees the vast majority of users who've received images in PMs would have saved them independently of the forum if they're useful images. There will always be a few exceptions to the rule - but you can't please all of the people etc, etc. :)
