C5 X7 2.0 HDI 2008
Diagbox shows aircon OK (clutch OK, pressure OK)
Clutch fails to engage when AC button pressed.
When clutch engaged (using direct connection to battery) the compressor gets v. hot (my spit boils on compressor after 4 mins).
Just found the single radiator cooling fan has failed (open circuit across power connection).
Would this prevent the clutch engaging?
Also, what is the role of the smaller pins on the cooling fan motor?
Comments welcome.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: C5 X7 Would failed radiator fan prevent aircon from work
Yes it will and the compressor is getting so hot due to excess pressure building up in the system because the heat in the gas not being dissipated through the condenser (A/C radiator) which in turn causes the system to over-pressurise and switch off to prevent damaging the system so personally I wouldn't run the A/C until the fan is repaired.

Re: C5 X7 Would failed radiator fan prevent aircon from work
Bought new fan assembly (from NEAT on eBay) for £250.
Suggest you
1. Check relay (in box to R on fan) first.
2. Confirm fan u/s by disconnecting cables in box and removing relay. Then connect battery voltage directly to large feed connector and short out large relay sockets with a short length of garden wire. Alternatively, remove fan assembly, disconnect cables from motor, then connect 12V directly to large socket on motor.
NB1 no need to remove bumper.
NB2 don't close bonnet with no bonnet release cable connected!
Get back to me if you need more info.

Just for once I saw it coming!
Made a temporary garden wire release loop through the grille.
Actually, it works quite well. I'll leave it for a while, just so people can say 'What's that ...?'
