Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I don't know if this is normal on other HP Citroëns, but my C5 wobbles a bit (sometimes a bit is a lot !) on intermediate or even on track height.
It happens when accelerating (mildly on intermediate, strongly on track))on 1st or 2nd gear (more noticeable). on intermediate it only does this till reaching 40kms/h when the suspension auto lowers...

If i'm not mistaken, Vitara's TD engine is PSA's 1.9TD.
But you sure would have a lot of mods to do, beginning with the gearbox...
Regarding the fuel economy, have you changed fuel filters? My sister's Corsa used to be very thirsty, but with a new filter it passed.

Trailing arm bearings on the ZX are goosed, forget about that axle/subframe and source a good used one because that one is now scrap.
Yes I'd be a bit worried about the fuel consumption of a petrol auto Xant, thats why I would never consider one

I dont think GSF sell individual pipes, would require quite a (slow selling) stock !
Try your local Citroen dealer or try this company :
BTW : it's the HP (6+2 pump) to rack feed pipe, inform your exact model details to get the correct pipe, as they vary according to engine types.

The passenger windows and sunroof I would put down to a bad earth connection. My Volcane did the same. It was the door connectors that I cleaned up and that made a difference.
The Drivers side one has probably come out of it's runner or has been disconnected.
The heater blower control , if it's like the xantia uses cables to control the position...

Control arm bushes: 2 per side for part N42234 and one per side for the p bush, N42235.
The bushes are pressed in so a replacement control arm, that includes them, is my choice. Then next time you can prepare your control arms in advance!

I have a 'Trafficmaster' that uses an inertia switch to activate it and it has auto shutdown when it is not on the move.
My problem is that now I have moved it from the Xant to the XM it doesn't switch on and if I give it a nudge it shuts down after five minutes.
Could I cure this with a pair of square wheels or would just one be enough!

Has it been programmed or the battery been off. The wifes Megane has to have the window programmed when the battery is off. Raise window with ignition on. Keep the switch in the up position for approx 7 secs then push to go down, lower and then it should go up on the one touch. Hope this helps.

I have just acquired a new Berlingo multispace. The hand book states that the drivers electric window will fully lower or raise with a longer touch on the switch. I can get it to auto lower but not auto raise.

The handbook lists them as 185/65 88T or 205/65, so I would think a previous owner has changed them for wider tyres. The 205's have wider rims.

Any records on the glowplugs ?
They do have a finite service life - some 65Kmiles (100Kkm).
To test the glowplugs, you must unscrew the small nut holding the cable, then measure the ohmic resistance from tip to earth is less than 1 ohm. (try shorting out your test leads first to get a reference reading).

The Haynes manual is fine. Just bear in mind that they often use the same photographs for more than one car model so certain 'eccentricities' of your car might not be included. In what circumstances did the car overheat? At anything over 30 MPH (probably 20 in this weather) you can discount the fans altogether as the air blast should do all the necessary cooling and will exceed the fan output.

The engine management diagnostic socket is in the lage plastic box that contains the ECUs. Its in the engine compartment above the front offside wheel. You will find several cables with sockets on the end, it's usually the green one for the engine management ECU.

When you say lack of room, I take it you mean down the front of the engine. Yes it is a bit tight, but with the top mounting off and a jack under the engine, by lifting and lowering, the job can be done. If you decide to have a go, come back on here if you want more help

Not having a termostat fitted would make the system cooler and much longer to heat up.
Likewise if it was stuck open.
Check this first.
Does it have A/C?, if so could be the pollen filter blocked

Not sure about the fitment but could it be that the garage is just covering themselves against any comebacks by refusing to fit anything other than standard parts? Citroen are very good at chopping and changing components, especially around the time when model derivatives are updated.

My transmission has failed, and I always assumed that all Xnatia TD's used the same BE3 gearbox. I'm in for a big bill - local garage claims mine to have a BE4 box which is not interchangable. Now I thought the BE4 was only fitted to the 2.1L versions, and mine is a 1.9

If all is well nothing should have changed. The car has an anti sink valve to stop the suspension from settling at either end.
If you have a problem, then maybe it's time to send us a few more symptoms to see if any of us can guide you. R

The original Citroen one was basically 'glued' to the carpet on the o/s of the boot in the upright position. I have either put mine under the drivers seat (right next to the connector) or 'loose' in the boot, but held in position by the boot net. (I don't race anywhere in my Xantia). This also allows easy removal if I need to carry large loads.

All depends on the bigger picture - sell privatly with a FSH and you can command a better price (not a HUGE deal and probably never as much as the extra cost of servicing by a garage).

Does FSH, really make that much difference to a cars value or its general running? Given that my Xantia has only 40,000 on it now with FSH, i will probably keep it for at least 3-4 years. I don't really get much in the way of road/suspension noise from my hydraulics, all of the pipes are clipped away from the chassis.
If you've getting noise, I'd check that you don't have a pipe out of place and touching something it shouldn't. One of my flexible brake hoses was loose in the wheelarch and made noise / wore a clean patch of the...

Get someone to rev it when cold and you stand by the exhaust. The smell will be 'different'. When you get to 50% mix the smell will be not unlike the chippy down the road.

open the bonnet, the key socket is on your right up near the bonnet hinge, I think it only silences the alarm though, the headlamps will still flash unless you do some magic ritual best explained by one og the Xantia experts here;)

The only seal is part of the filter, around the top of the filter.
Is the filter correctly seated in the housing, is the filter lid tightened correctly? I can only assume that when you removed the filter to inspect it, the rubber seal around the top may have been slightly displaced. I think that you fit a new filter, tighten lid carefully and...

I cleaned the same throttle body a short while ago. Stempy suggestion of a small bleed hole is right. From memory, one of the holes is reasonably open and the other only has a tiny hole at the end of it. Exactly what they do, I don't know. Give them both a good blast with carb cleaner.

I've seen some things galvanised over the years, gates, large transformer cooling radiators etc. These are mainly dipped into the molten metal then hung up, you get runs and the thickness varies which would make balancing a problem. hope this helps. john

Have you checked the resistor on the blower motor. Not a big job, passenger foot well remove carpet as if you are changing the pollen filter and it's up on the inside near to the body work.

Could anyone offer advice as to fan intermittency on my XSARA exclusive. Three times now, the fan hasn't come on. Two times I've switched off the ignition and restarted, then the fan has come on.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What made you think you'd needn't chagne the pump with the belt change at 120K?

OK, I know I should have done this anyway. Had the belt changed 2k miles ago at 120k. Within ten days the water pump gave way. By leaving the pressure cap off it lasted until I could get it back to the garage.
The lesson is to replace the pump regardless at the second belt change. It is after all only around £30 or so. Same goes for the tension...

I can manage it without getting much beyond a dribble down the block, the trick is to be very quick in getting the filter veritcal once you've got it unscrewed. Then all you have to do is manouvre it around various cables and pipes, without dropping it or pouring its contents on the floor. If you get it out without smothering various cables /...
