Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

i havent used the diesel version as i dont have one! but as for the petrol one i have put a few tanks through the ol girl and found it did make a difference, a lot smoother reving and a bit quicker, but not enough imo to makew it worth wile for the extra cost!

Sorry, no. Not without breaking the trim that goes around the steering column. Follow the instructions carefully in your HBOL and all is well. Just be gentle with it and don't throw in the corner or on the back seat!! Robin

Andy. My guess is the HC has finally said enough is enough. It is the differing rates of rise across the car that puzzles.
Also check your trailing arm bearings are OK. Are the wheels upright when veiwed from behind? They should be | | and not / or \
A get out and get under job I suspect but please take precautions against suspension collapse.

They aren't wonderful tyre brands, but I wouldn't expect cheap tyres to lock wheels under normal braking you could have a snatchy brake. Have you checked your tyre pressures?
If your tyres aren't wearing incorrectly (check for feathering / non-uniform wear on shoulders etc) the suspension is most likely to be ok, it takes time for a slight...

My ZX has locked a wheel twice in two days, under normal braking.
I first wondered after it getting very upset in cornering, it may have a ball joint done or similar.
But after these lockups I turned my attention to the tyres.
I've not long (3-4 weeks) had a new set fitted all round:

You are not strictly speaking limited by Caliper manufacturer. Lucas, Brembo and others market components to fit equipment that they did not make themselves. So long as you have the accurate information regarding year, model and series if appropriate you should find the GSF offerings very suitable for conventional motoring use.

Hi,
Just as I got home one eve a few weeks ago, my indicators started flashing as if I had put hazards on, the headlamps were flashing on /off too. I pulled F17 fuse, all is now ok, apart from no alarm.(there is a faint glow still to be seen in alarm indicator red light).

You are going to have to take the front wheels off and have a look...you need to see how much material is left on the brake pads and how worn the discs are.
These cars wear their brake pads and discs out relatively quickly so its important that you look soon if you are getting metallic scraping sounds- have a look and let us know!

Only with the aid of a computer diagnostic tool or a citroen dealer. You'll also need the cars secuirty code to get into the programme keys function of the computer.
I got my secuirty code, general software update and key reprogrammed for £40.00 at a main dealer.

It should be at least 12.5V after a run, and should not significantly decay over a week or so. When the engine's running it should be about 14V, and this shouldn't change significantly with load as the alternator should compensate - if it is much lower or higher than this, the alternator is goosed. Yesterday i was at my local citroen garage getting some fiddly little clips for my fog lamps and headlights.
They'd actually ordered the wrong ones, so showed me this cracking piece of software that breaks down the BX into component form, right down to the little clips i wanted.

As they are bolted on they are quite straight forward. First remove the under wing protection. As far as I remember you need to use a torx driver to undo the screw that hold the panel under the headlamp to the wing. You need to get at this this from under the wheel arch. When all the studs are out, the wing should come off with a little persuasion...

For what it's worth, and I may well be wrong! Up to L reg they were on the bonnet, M reg same size chevs were on the grill then facelift (R reg?) the grill became as one with the bonnet and got bigger chevrons. Perhaps the M reg you saw was a late registered L reg model? Can't explain your L reg with chevs on grill - not noticed one but will keep...

I'm a little confused looking at some pictures of xantias about... There seem to be two different styles at the front, one where the chevrons are part of the grill, and one where the chevrons are part of the bonnet and the grill is plain. I thought at first that it was an age thing, but then I saw an L reg (93/94) one with them in the grill...

Yep ive got mine which is off the car, I think some of the paints flaked off but the cover itself should be at least 100% compelte, will take a photo tommorow and upload it for you.

The bypassed immobiliser puzzles me because there has to be a constant supply to the shut off solenoid unless the immobiliser control unit has failed as a result of some other trauma possibly related to the lights...

Not really thought about this one in quite this context because my coolant never gets beyond two years old anyway. Regular partial flushing every year maintains a high new to old ratio.
However in many of the marine units I deal with we run on 100% glycol based coolant and I have done this with my car engines on occasion.

Have a look at the oil filler pipe!! It connects at the front of the block and it, and its associated pipes, can split/perish. If its yellow gungy oil thats your most probable cause. This time of year you will get alot of emulsified oil in the breather pipes and filler neck. If any of them split then it's oily mayo everywhere!! Hope this helps....

Sound like expediency to me, as long as the guy did it in bursts rather than continuously cranking it, proves the battery is a good un though, and the hyd pump must be good too, Ill wager you could make toast using the heat radiating from the starter though.

To raise the suspension on my non starting xantia my mechanic cranked the car over until he had raised the suspension to the changing wheel postion. Is this a normal thing to do to raise the suspension when the car wont start. Would this not reduce the life of the starter motor and indeed the battery?

I assume the carburettor has been fitted for a while and has been working correctly. Firstly i suggest you check all the usual service items, plugs, ignition and timing, air cleaner etc. I would then have a very good look at all fuel pipework going right back to the tank for leaks. I would also make sure that there are no leaks from tank vent...

until a few weeks ago it was using 1 liter of gas for every 11 km.
now it's using a lot more.

and another thing - it is feeling a bit too bouncy on the frong of the car and it has a new main sphare, could the cause be the height of the car that might...

well im now so sick of the headlamps on the xantia been so pathetic im going to make it a 4 lamp ass unit before i make it anyone know if any manafacturer makes a conversion kit.
ive fitted 100w bulbs but they'r still crap i like to adjust my lamps where i want them but if i adjust the dips down low enough to use the main beam i might as well...

I'd say check the left track rod balljoints (outer & inner), and have the front wheels tracking checked.

There isnt a punchline 'cos I dont have an answer yet.
My zx has started making a clunking from the left front when quickly coming on and off the power. The movement also tugs at the steering wheel - pulls left when powering off, pushes right when powering on. I suspected wishbone bushes like usual, but all have ben changed and it still persists....

Yes - it indicates a break in the circuit or a failed sensor. Usually it's a brake in one of the cables - often the exposed ones that get a lot of twisting, or a grotty connector. Start by identifying which sensor is o/c and then trace the cable from the sensor back to the first cable joint. Pull it apart and check for a resistance across the...

Hi I found a 2 button plip in the scrapyard yesterday and using the forum reprogrammed the car, however when I use the deadlock button the alarm arms OK but after approx 5 mins activates,resets. It does this three times then seems to be OK. I switch it of by this time as i don't want to upset the neighbours.Can anyone help me with this ?? Regards...

Have you run it through the full height range, bottom to top and back again a few times- this may help.
It could also be that the LHM is a bit dirty as well, has it been changed that you know of?

I've just recently overhauled the suspension which in itself should of been an easy job if it was not for the fact that the owner of the xantia before me thought it might be nice not to use rubber washers, hence the spehere's had seized solid as they were metal on metal, but less of my winging. If your crank and cam sprockets line up and lock with pins then you must have got things right. What about belt tightness? How did you lock the crank when removing the pulley?

the understeer is normal and fun,
don't see the point in changing for wider it would cost to much and you never know how good second hand tyres r
when i'm flyling my ax around a little dab of the middle peddle before the apex then hit the loud peddle should help, if in doubt this time of year just slow down a bit

The holes in the arm where the water squirts from are very small and prone to blocking. Try removing the small cover on the wiper arm where it pivots, then lever off the round plastic cover underneath to see wheteher you have water up to that point. My money is on the jets being blocked.

The passenger side front carpet in my Xantia is permanently wet. I am not losing any coolant, so it can't be a leaking heater, and there are no aparent sources for water to thrown up under the floor.

I had this problem when I bought my TD Xantia. Like you I tried everything then eventually found that 'Clean Screen Paste' available from Jaguar dealers did the trick.

Now I've cleaned the screen with all sorts of stuff from white spirit to the official stuff as usued by the Queen, but no difference . Now I've read in a motoring magazine that 'sugar soap' is the best stuff to use. Also...

Hi Tom,
I'm not sure why you need a circuit diagram. The CX hydraulics are the same in principle as the BX hydraulics (which I'm sure your very familair with), which are the same as the GS, SM, DS, ID ........
The only *different* (not difficult) difference is the daravi steering. If you have problems with that just givus a yell. It really does...

As a temp option you could always do what I dis for a long while - use a Garmin GPS tracker unit to tell you your speed - quite accurate - just let it sit on your dash. I picked up a cheap one for £30 and used it for months and months before finaly replacing the cable on my speedo.
Never got a ticket once!

It's exactly what you think - a diesel choke device. It alters the roto-pump's fuel injection timing with cold engine - for easier start...

In my opinion the 2.0 is too heavy to be lumbered with an auto box, but obviously it would be better than the 1.8. I think the auto's all used the 8v engine as well.
As far as I am aware the Activa is manual only. It also weighs more than an estate (which was available with the same engine).
The V6 is auto only in the UK, if I was forced to have...

Would the alarm operate the headlamps ?
I dont think so.
This really sounds like an electric gremlin. Something like a false current path through a headlights relay.
From factory the Xantia is NOT equipped with a headlights relay - other than any dim-dipped relay fitted.
Dont know where this relay would be located, but have a look under the...
