Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

If the ABS lamp is on then the brakes should work as a non-ABS system so you shouldn't feel the ABS working at all.

Hi!
Last some days I get ABS lamp ON. The braking is almost the same, but in the beginning of driving I feel ABS works even after slight pedal pressing. Than it becames regular.
My question is: is there somesing to do before i go to garage?
Am i right thinking that ABS fault dont affect on the rest braking system?

In my experience genuine Cit hydraulic pipes are fairly cheap,and have the advantage of being pre bent to shape giving valuable clues to where they go. I use a little blowlamp to heat the unions up before putting a spanner on them, once you get to where the twisted up pipe ends cut it off flush with the end of the gland nut and use a six sided...

Oil extraction via the dip stick tube is very common on marine engines - (try and get under one of them to get the plug out!) The only disadvantage is that you may have trouble getting the very last drops out - especially if the oil is a bit thick and if you have a magnetic oil drain plug, you don't get the chance to inspect or clean it.

Always replace both damper struts at the same time - otherwise you will negatively effect the car's handling. The figs. on the following links show you what you need:

Brothers ZX just failed mot on ball joint and weeping front strutt.
When i last looked the strutt was just covered in grease and cack from split cv boot/knocking cv joint, so will get 2nd opinion.
However if it is failing, is it best to replace both front strutts, or does that only apply to springs, seeing as it a pressurised sealed unit ?

C'mon Guys,
the car is just sitting at the wrong height. The kid playing with the height lever should not have hurt a thing.
My bet is the linkages are seized under the car or the plastic link to the rear height corretor has jumped off.
Most certainly the fix is 'free'. Height correctors don't break just because someone moved the lever inside the...

According to Mr. Haynes, the ZX td came with either solid or ventilated front disce - in either case they are 247 mm dia. and originally 10 mm thick for solid, 20.4 mm for ventilated. Minimum thicknesses are 8 mm and 18.4 mm respectively.

It is coming on for it. 48000 is a safe interval. Some places do it for around 50 quid but you can pay a good deal more. Can't help you with car value. Too many variables!

Could be that excessive movement of the handbrake mechanism (like when the wire broke) caused a short-circuit in the handbrake indicator circuit giving acrid fumes of melting plastic? . . . or a plastic-coated handbrake wire falling on a hot exhaust pipe? . . .
As far as I know there's no pyrotechnic pretensioner anywhere near the handbrake on the...

Whilst en-route on a shopping trip yesterday, I pulled the handbrake on. As it reached the top there was a loud bang, like a shot gun going off, and the cabin filled with acrid smoke.
I was left with an un-operational handbrake - it just moves up and down. There is rachet clicking but no tension / resistance when pull it up and therefore no brake...

There is a switch (operated by inserting the ignition key) on the cross member just behind the driver's side headlight which disables the sounder. Mine has never sounded either - I'm not tempted to turn it on just in case.

Suspect damp around the central locking ECU?
Well, that was the problem with a neighbours VW couple of summers ago.
One good thunderstorm and it was flashing lights, locking & unlocking, windows going down and up all on their own!

Seems to have a major aversion to being unlocked for any length of time and with a door open it cycles round and round. Even when it behaves normally it will lock of it's own accord so I never leave the key in the ignition no matter what! Getting in to the car is...

I know as a last resort that Halfruads do a complete brake kit made by Ferodo. They come with all the bits, main springs and backing plate springs. Also can you post a picky on the site?There's instructions if you do a search of this forum.

My Handbrake dosen't work, i took the car to kwik fit and they discovered that one of the springs on the rear offside brake assembly was snapped in half. The buggers wanted to charge me 175 quid to replace a spring!! The shoes and drum are in good nick and i bought a new fitting kit to replace the spring...

Sounds like both the RHS brakes light and RHS indicators have lost their earth points, which physically would be the same.
Start your problem search in the outer RHS rear lamp - look for any obvious earth point which may have sheared or is badly corroded.

I had the same problem, although my Xm is a 98 vsx Auto. It turned out to be the sender unit from the auto box. I dont know if they are the same unit but it is something you could try. Best of luck, Bob Kendall.

Anyone know the correct settings for steering geometry for a Xantia SXTD '94? Seem to be going round in circles after bumping over an open manhole and now keep slowly wearing out about 1 inch of the edge of the inside tread of the right front wheel. Cannot see any other damage so guess it has to be the tracking.

I think the sensor is just a pair of contacts which should be immersed normally, low coolant breaks the circuit and activates the lamp, try removing the connector and perhaps bridging the contacts, this should make the lamp go out, if it does not then the problem is elsewhere.

The motor is safe to wash using degreaser (gunk etc) and then a garage jetwash, its probably safer to do this with the engine stopped (you dont want the turbo to ingest water droplets whilst spinning)

my xantia's engine looks dirty, oil is seen clearly on many parts of it, but when watching any leak from bottom of the car, i could not find any at all, is that nromal??
something else, what about washing the engine?? using the hand car wash -high pressurised water- at many stations while the engine is on.., is that safe??

So I started the job yesterday, jiggled the top engine mount off, but had to remove the drive shaft out of the hub carrier to I could lift the engine up engough to remove the lower bolts. Then removed the water hoses as appropiate, and then...

When you lock the car from the door in question, does it unlock again???
If it doesn't sounds like one of the metal rods inside the door has come adrift ... Try removing the door card and see if any rods are loose/not attached.
The Peugeot/Citroen locking systems has an electronic Box on the front doors, that lock/unlock, and also to a Door shut...

We have a J plate ZX advantage, one of the many problems i have is that the front passenger door doesn't lock or unlock on the central locking, we can lock it with the key, but again the cenral locking to the rest of the car doesn't respond!! Any ideas and is it easy to fix. Ta guys in advance. Oh happy new year!

Yes.
When you connect the battery the FIRST thing you must do is reset the alarm.
Inside the car on the DASH, on the right side of the steering colum, there will be 3 switches (IF ITS A SX TRIM) of the few there should be one that shows a type of speaker with a cross over it.
What you need to do is connect the battery, then as quickly as possible...

I'm not quite sure he means by front brake pump , but as far as I know no Xantia hydraulic parts are compatible with the BX.
(Apart from the spheres on some models)

I have had a guy email me about the front brake pump for a 1994 Citroen BX14TGE and he asked me if one exists on the xantia that would be compatible.
Does anyone know?
I thought the brake fluid was driven by the h/pump next the the alternator.

The old XUD diesels were relatively efficient in their day - but won't match today's HDi's of course. The TD was designed in the late 80's. I wouldn't worry about mpg over such a short distance - because I've found brim varies a lot with brands of fuel. I find Tescos, for example, (while I've nothing against it), tends to foam more...

i have a '96 xantia 1.9td sx estate and i've just checked the mpg by filling to the brim, driving my normal routine and then filling up again and i used 13.82 liters for 96.5 miles which if my maths are right is just over 31mpg. this is all town driving in short hops of less than 7 miles.

Right enough the control unit should be next to the battery. You may well have a post heating system and the relay for this should be with the engine bay fuses to the far left. As for flicking the relay - I got by with a direct connection via heavy cable with a Ford Fiesta but it didn't have an ECU. Your car may well have one so I would not stick...

I have a Xantia TDSX (93). My glowplugs are not getting power and I suspect either the control unit or associated post heating relay or post heater thermal switch (going by circuit diagram) and need to isolate the fault.
I can't hear the click I used to hear when the glow plug time was over and it was ready to crank. Seems like an earthing problem...

Ive never found power graphs for any zx engines other than 1 for a slightly modified 16v but I know all of the raw figures if you need
ps: theres a 2 litre 8v turbo engine on ebay atm re: your thread in the peugeot section. Only 150bhp but they are so mildly tuned you could turn the boost up a fair bit without touching anything else to eeek some...

If it is LHM, there will be more when holding down the brake pedal.
I doubt it though, as I've never seen a failure of the O-ring seal which could cause LHM back up in the handbrake mechanism.
LHM would also cause a different colour, more like dark/dirty green when mixed.
I've seen the grease used being red brakes grease from factory or recon...

It is nonsense. The Xantia strut doesn't fit and the BX strut isn't troublesome, being cheaply rebuildable, if indeed it needs rebuilding. Many do not.

Hi, a rumor appeared recently on our local forum saying that it is possible to replace troublesome BX front struts with those taken from Xantia, which are supposed to be virtually maintenance-free and undestroyable. However, nobody tried this swap yet. Does that sound like a good idea or is it just nonsense?

Two of my friends run Xantias with 195/65/15 tyres - on original rims (one is a '97 break, the other is a '94 2.0 16 valve), so you should be able to pick up a set of rims from a car breakers and fit your Opel tyres.

My Winter ones are 175/70/14 and the summer ones should be 185/65/14.
Now my question is i have a almost new set of summer tyres from my old Opel Omega @ 195/65/15 would these fit on my Xantia with out fouling anything? i know that i would have to buy new rims but that is a lot cheaper than...

Early ones have 10mm threads, later ones have 12mm threads, as far as I know they are the same length.
Drop links are made by several manufacturers, some are total crap and last about a fortnight if you are unlucky.
The best ones to get (available from GSF) are made by Moog Chassis parts.
You need both wheels at the same height when looking for...

I finally got them both working after trying a few times every day for the last week :)

- Remove the PCB from one of the keys so that I had a key to stick in the ignition

you can't it's part of the drive shaft to replace the cv boot you remove the hub and use a cone to slide a new boot over, if thats what u meant quite easy job but you need a joint splinter and alot of muscle to get lower suspension arm off

Hi All
Happy New Year
I changed the oil (semi-synth) on my new (to me) Activa, over filled the oil (about 400ml) the oil temp and stop lights came on when started the next day. Removed the excess, light still came on. Parked it facing up a slight incline seemed OK.
But now it will come on and off for upto 2 miles and also come on intermittently...

I make sure I leave the thing in the on position overnight and make a point of turning it back and forth regularly, mine was stuck up with radweld or something but has got easier, use it or lose it!
