Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Since I've had my '08 Berlingo (May '09) I wasn't impressed with the A/C performance (especially as I paid a fair bit extra as its an option). I mentioned it to the garage as it needed re-call work doing to the spare wheel carrier and they re-gassed it under warranty.

Pretty sure 134a is still used, the replacements haven't been approved yet.
The important thing is the right oil is used when the system is serviced.
Chances are Citroen performed such a service, which involves vacuuming out the contents and regassing with new oil.
If there was the chance of a leak, I'd expect them to have told you.

Help, I went to kwik fit for an aircon regas and service thingy for £45. They connected my car up( the car was cooling and had gas in it, but I was giving it a treat. They said it would take 45 mins. After it was 'done' they said my system had a leak and their machine wouldnt regas the system.....now I have a hot interior......
Any Ideas???????...

Hi, No, Kwik Fit didnt charge me anything, they couldnt because they advertise that they wont charge it the car isnt 10% cooler. It wasnt cold at all!!!!!

I have bog-standard Air Con on/off and find that it cycles from cold to hot when in use especially when travelling in urban areas at reduced speeds. Turning the temperature control from blue to red and back again sometimes seems to bring the cooling back on fairly quickly (or could by my imagination as it was caused by the cycling effect referred...

My 406 had the sockets towards the bulkhead, but where are they on my 405 STI est ( 2.0 Auto ) ?

I can't see anything obvious, and I'd like to check the level using the meter I've got.

As i believe my air con is buggered, i think its the clutch on the compressor as i hear a kind of metal on metal noise when i start it or turn it off. It was only regassed recently (ie 1 month)
I am thinking of getting a new compressor, does it matter which one or are they inter changeable? (xantia mk 2 1.9td)

You guys are just guessing until you can get some guages onto that system. If the center of the compressor refuses to pin... Does the clutch have power ?? If so, yep the compressor clutch is dead. If not, I find it more likely the system has leaked it's refrigerant out.

I would like to convert my C5 from R134 to another refrigerant and in the process change the oil to a PAG oil.
As far as I can see the benefits in doing this are win! win!

If the aircon's lost efficaciousness that fast already, I suspect component failure of some sort, meaning that it won't really work at all well with a regas. I know XMs can have the evaporator unit corrode and leak.

The aircon on my immaculate 1996 Citroen Xantia 1.8 Auto is not what is
was, a local garage is offering re-gassing for £65 inclusive. I've no idea
if this is a fair price or even if it will improve my aircon. Can any expert

Halfruads aircon Kit is what i've used with no issues.
Obviously not as good as vacuming out the system but has sufficed in my last few xantias with AC and the pressure guage has packed up but i'll replace that soon. The cans can be quite cheap as well so if its only a topup its good and helps you find the leak as well to DIY fix if wanted?

First of all hello to everyone as I am a newbie to the site.

I have a 99 Xsara 2.0 HDI 90 SX and the air con is confusing me...firstly when you hit the button, the light comes on but won't stay lit. This has obviously been like it for some time, as there are marks round the button, where the previous owner has used something to 'wedge' the switch...

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback...It turned out to be the alternator that was making the noise, not the A/C compressor!!! So wasted money there. And as regards the A/C switch light not staying on, I have found the the switch does not disengage correctly, I found the best way to deal with this is to 'flick' my finger off the switch and the switch pops...

Just had my air con regassed at my local citroen specialist - £39.99. That included checking for leaks and vacuuming out the system. For that price it was'nt worth buying a can from Halfords and doing it myself. Probably the cheapest anywhere. The mechanic said that the pipework on Xantia's is generally robust, the condensor causing most of the...

I have a seized compressor (believed to have last been used in 2002) and who knows what other faults in the A/C system that I would like to repair, if possible.

Considering it contains a pressurised refrigerent that people tell me is illegal to dump to atmosphere, are there any DIY options?

You pump will be a delphi/harrison compressor like mine and to remove the clutch requires a special tool which can be purchase if you so wish!!!!!

Hi. I'm going to need the 309's Air Con serviced soon. As I understand it has an old R12 system which cannot be regassed with the old R12. I'm led to belive an RS24 gas can be used without modication. Has anybody gone down this route and how has the system performed? thanks

HI all hope someone can help, my air con was working last week no probs then today switched it on,no cold air the light comes on on the switch inside the car.
the compressor is not engaging and the rad fan is not coming on either.i ran the temp up and the fan cuts in as normal

I had my system gassed in the summer of 2006, however last summer on our annual trip to Devon the A/C was non-existent. I have noticed a lot of frothing in the receiver dryer, so I assume that the system is empty. Any advice would be appreciated.

Approx 2 years is the reccomended re-charge period to keep it all working well, but if it has lost all the gas I would suspect a leak in the condensor (the rad in front of the rad).

The correct way to service aircon is to suck the system to a vacum, then hold it for about 1/2 hour and see if the gauge moves to test for leaks, then the correct...

Hi All,

I have an Year 2002 peugot 406 HDI where recently the blower fan started to remain on. I changed the blower control module in the center dash but it made no difference. When I had this module fully disconnected it was still blowing. It appears that the fan is controlled through the ignition switch.
Any ideas why it remains on ?

Maybe try moving the speed slider quickly through its entire range several times to dislodge any dust causing dead spots, like clearing static from audio volume controls.
If that doesn’t help, squirting WD 40 into the slider may help.
If not, then it’s the climate ECU’s turn.

My aircon has been playing up. The 'clutch' has been clicking on and off when i turn the aircon on. I have chacked and it all seems ok. Now, I have looked at so many posts about xantia aircon, and have connected two wires that go to the aircon pump together. The pump now switches on and off as needed with the switch on the dash and the cooling...

I would take notice of Alan's advice 100%

I work on A/C systems on many makes of vehicle

As Alan states shorting out safety high pressure switches is a BIG NO NO !!!

only do this for a few seconds otherwise you could cause major damage to the A/C system and more importantly YOURSELF.

I have a Sanden SD709 compressor off a BX that has leaking shaft seals.

About 8 years ago I had this job done on another compressor by a reconditioning firm in Feltham. They are no longer there. Anyone know of a company that might be able to do a recon job on this compressor for me.

Feedback.

Garage did the job while we were on our hols. Thankfully the rest of the pipes were in good condition so just (?) a new condensor and re-gas.

They took the rad out for access. Charged 2.5hrs but it took longer.

Anyway nice to have it blowing cold.... especially as the sun has appeared!

the air mixture flap on my air con has failed so it blows air at at any temp it feels like (which is a bit dispiriting in the summer)

i really cant face stripping the dashboard etc out to get at the flap and was trying to think of a another bodge

i am now considering the heater hoses running into the matrix if i disconnected them from the matrix...

can anyone help ! the fans on my 405td (with aircon) come on when they like
i found a couple of posts that pointed me in the direction of the relays so i changed all 3 ,with the car running the fans stay off until it is up to temperature they then cut in and out at about the right temp,but as soon as you turn the ignition off they kick in again.If...

Check the 30 amp fuses in the black box above the nearside wheel arch. They usually blow with cooling fan problems.

when i first got my car the aircon wasn't working and there were loads of bubbles in the sight glass so i paid to have it re gassed the problem is it just doesn't seem very cold, my wife has a ford focus and the aircon on there gets much colder, is there anything i can check, i know absolutely nothing about aircon all i know is that the sight...

Hi, how long after starting the car, should it take for the cold air to chill after turning on the climate control?

It seems to take ages. This is on a Xantia Sx MkII

Hand in front of air outlet grille, fan should kick off within a few seconds and air should be feeling very cold within one to two minutes.
Do a check on the air bubbles in the receiver/dryer as well as feeling the pipes going to ythe condensor. One of them will be hot to hold with a couple of minutes, which is when the cold air is flowing over...

Hi everyone,

My air-con isn't getting cold. I've read through some posts and have checked that the thick wires on the connector going to the dryer with viewing glass are closed-circuit - which they are - and that the radiator fans are spinning when the air-con button is pressed - which they are.

There is a pressure switch on top of the receiver dryer that prevents the compressor from operating in the event of too little gas or too much pressure, so if the system is dry, it will operate once the system has been recharged.
If the gas is gone, there is a leak that must be found preferrably prior to regassing and these are usually evidenced...

Hi has anyone an exploded diagram of a harrison compressor model .1135253. screw on pipes . I have a xantia 1.9td 1996. I don't know about C5's but on a Xantia when the heater is set to recycle the intake opens a flap just below the windscreen on the N/S so that air is drawn in from under the glovebox. There is no way you could point a hose into it unless you take the whole dash out.

You might be best putting the fan on its lowest setting then directing the hose...

Hi guys.

I suspect that the wiring that enters the aircon compressor is damaged. I would like to know it it's possible to dismantle the clutch without depressurizing the system or removing the compressor?

Thank you Alan. I already did that, as the connector was pretty banged up. I tought I had it solved, aircon worked fine for a week, then it started failing again.

So I move to the next possible culprit, the wiring entering the compressor as it isn't held by anything (no tie wraps) and it dangles a lot.

Hello Just a small question about air con. its a 1997 2,1 diesel. Could anyone tell me where the low pressure port is please, H****s is typically useless. I had a quick look but it was getting too dark to see very much.
There are two pipes by the compressor with connecters so I am assuming it's one of these.

Look on the end plate of the compressor.

The LP port should have S near it (suction) whilst the HP port should have D near it for discharge.
On a Sanden compressor if the ports are attached to the end plate (they come in several configurations) the centre one is the suction side and the one above it the discharge.

Going by the Xantia BoL electric maps it mightn’t be good for long because it looks like you now switch the high fan current with the switch contact that also feeds the ignition and injection.

About the only way an evaporator can fail is if it either is punctured in an accident, comes loose and rubs through a pipe or somehow manages to get corroded, but either way, it is extremely rare for one to need replacing, in fact, I have been a refrigeration/airconditioning mechanic for many years and I can't remember ever having replaced one.

I took my car (306 2.0HDI 2001) for regassing (i bought it a week ago)
the mechanic told me it has a leak on the pipe that goes across the radiator. When i turn the aircon on the light comes on but no drop in revs etc. Is this usually the case if there is no gas/pressure?

Don’t understand what’s going on here. :?
There’s certainly no way to unscrew the wrong thing.
So, it’s either a faulty valve, or a dubious dryer bottle without valve, not likely on a recent car.

The air box is different because the air-conditioned car has the evaporator and pollen filter in it.
Most of all, the climate control board in the dash senses if the fan is spinning before turning on the air conditioning, so you will have to fool that into thinking it’s spinning.

Hi Gang,

Have got the A/C sort but it would appear to be a electrical fault some where from the connector at the compressor to elsewhere in the system.

I've got a person recommended by several garages and others in the know in Edinburgh looking at the problem.

He states the system is up and running and the compressor is definitely working...
